Sleep paralysis

Rockstar, that's the thing mate, I hadn't taken anything! But I had gone two days without my olanzapine, that might have been the cause.

Was a really bad experience that I hope I never have to endure again! Don want to sound soft but it was acually really scary, I though I was dead or dieing! There was a really evil presence in my room!

Glowin aaron, your spot on mate, I tried to call out as well, and it is really sinister!

The last time it happened I'd just fallen asleep when I suddenly found myself in my old bedroom, watching my old T.V.
Family guy was on.

I thought I was awake at the time.

Then things got a bit weird.
Family guy turned all "twisted and fucked up" (it's the only way I can explain it thanks to my state education) so I picked up my remote control which happened to have antennas sticking out of the top?

Then I checked the battery compartment.
It was empty and it had recesses for 9 AA size batteries in a strange triangular shaped compartment.

At this point I realized I wasn't awake.....

In the end I tried rolling myself out of bed onto the floor in the hope it would wake me up.
Luckily it worked. Things were just getting weirder and weirder....

I also have a plethora of Mirtazapine induced 'door' themed sleep paralysis experiences that I could write pages about.

It hits me a couple of nights after MDMA usage. Can be eliminated by a valium or something similar before bed. :)

wow just remembered an odd occurrence of this. it happened i think twice in one night where when the sleep paralysis would occur, I'd find myself masturbating (or my lucid self masterbating) vigorously...don't know why but at the time was a very odd sensation. it was like not knowing whether it was me actually doing it or not

I had them for a while last summer when I was bed ridden and had a fucked up sleeping pattern.
first experience was when the sofa facing the side of my bed (coverd with piles of clothes) turned into a grim reaper like figure and just kept getting real close to me then vanishing, I couldnt move for what felt like an eternity but it was most likely only a few seconds.
Another time I had one where my dad came into my room to give my pet turantula some crickets (he did this every couple of days) but this time he threw the spider at me and walked out of my room and I couldnt move to see where the spider was but I quickly snapped out of it.
possibly the strangest one was when i was waking up i seen a huge thumb about 6 ft tall at the foot of my bed but when i finally snapped out of it, it was just formed from the colour of the wall with the arched shaped doorway outside my bedroom.

Had it a few times after loads of pills. The worst thing (for me) was GBL and, to a lesser extent, GHB. Being able to see everything, but also things that weren't really there. Trying to scream and managing nothing more than a groan and being paralysed for maybe half an hour, in some cases. Happened every day, multiple times, whenever I was on a binge. Obviously when I've passed out. They're nowhere near as frightening on G, probably due to being well sedated, but they're still horrible. I feel sorry for anyone that has them on a regular basis. The best way to get out of it is to focus on a finger, then try to move it, eventually you'll start moving. The worst is when you think you've snapped out of it, and stood up, then suddenly you're back in the frozen position. I've had that happen five or ten times in a loop, before I've snapped out of it. Bizarre state.

im not sure if this is classed as sleep peralysis but one time when i had stopped smoking grass i had a really vivid inception styled nightmare where i would try my best to wake up only to find myself inside another dream and this happend about 8 times untill i actually woke up, was fucing awful!

Lying there, eyes open but still asleep and what feels like some 20 stone person has you pinned down trying to strangle you. Trying to say something to wake up but you cant. Usually get the "Falling Feeling" you get when you're drifting off but this is so intense.

Yeah it was pretty much happening to me every Sunday night there for a while. Only get it after a heavy binge of MDMA and have been up at least 48+ hours. I would love to set up a video camera and see what the fuck is going on when it happens! Ive woken up the next morning asking my girlfriend did she hear me calling out for help!

Like others here I get it when I've been on the serotonergics. It always kicks in a day or two following drug use, lasting a couple of days itself and with me trying constantly to fall asleep but to no avail.

It's as though the lack of serotonin makes it difficult for the brain to fall asleep, yet the body has no problem. It's always accompanied by the feeling that someone, or something is in the room with you. I often see shadow people too in cases where I had my eyes open. Most night's I'd not even get the courage to turn the light out before trying to sleep.

That's not the worst of it though. I always get Freaking brain zaps right in the middle of it all!

They don't seem so bad these days. The brain zaps have gotten quite tame and the shadow people have gotten more friendly. I'm not sure whether this is a good thing or a sign that I've fucked up my brain...

Edit: It's worth noting I had the similar shit when I went cold turkey from Citalopram a couple years back!

Ola! I have been lurking for a long time, decided to finally join as it seems this thread has nearly coincided with an experience I had last night! Although I don't (read can't) regularly take stimulant drugs, last weekend I decided to party with a friend. Long story short, Friday I had 125mg of 5-APB, followed by two consecutive nights of MDMA use (maybe a gram in total). This was coupled with daily Piracetam dosing (3500-4000mg twice daily) and some Etizolam at the end of every session (which again I don't use regularly).

On Tuesday I drank a lot of strong cider and pretty much passed out, but was otherwise feeling fine. This isn't to boast about how I was largeing it, just to put into perspective what may have upset my brain and caused what happened on Wednesday night. I was feeling a bit spaced out (as one would) and decided to sleep. I was experiencing slight hearing abnormalities - the closest I can describe it to you is like a pulsating bass like sound, however this was not extreme enough to stop me sleeping, and years of headphone misuse (worth it?) have left me with slight tinnitus anyway.

I woke about an hour after sleeping, and I could not move. I could see a tall figure at the top of my bed, moving his arms slowly. I couldn't make a sound, I couldn't move and I was shitting it for want better words. I was trying to convince myself that it wasn't real, but I could clearly see him although I couldn't describe exactly what it looked like. I was trying to scream for my flatmate, but I couldn't make a sound. After about 30 seconds, slight movement came back to my fingers and I managed some weak sounds that to be honest just probably sounded more like OTT wanking than a cry for help! After I regained full movement, the figure melted back into the coats hanging on my door that my bed faces and although I was still on edge I consumed 4mg of Etizolam, left a lamp on and managed sleep.

I have only ever experienced something similar before, but there were no hallucinations, simply a feeling that my brain had woken before my body. I have read of something similar in conjunction with Piracetam usage, minus the hallucinations, owing to the supposed brain stimulating properties of the drug. I would like to hear from people who have experienced this regularly, and how they dealt with it! Might give your technique a try if it happens again Treacle! Also, any Piracetam users here ever noticed correlation between this phenomenon and your usage of the drug? I have been taking about 7g daily for a week as an "attack dose" and have dropped to 2g today. Apologies for the self centred rambling! Not a regular occurrence

On a few cases ive almost tried to shake myself out of it, trying to move my body as much as possible, its worked a few times. But once you wake up, you go back to sleep almost instantly and it happens again, its at worst when its a completely dark room, puts me off going to sleep any more so get tired even more. Not being able to scream and the terror is the worst of it

I used to get it a lot when I was into MD. Haven't had it in years since I stopped rolling.

Fucking crazy shit. First time it happened, and I didn't know what it was, I was fairly convinced that I'd just experienced a psychotic episode and it was time I quit all drugs before I ended up in an asylum.

When I experienced it, there was this ominous presence in the corner of my room, which was sometimes barely visible out of the corner of my eye. Then it would come nearer and start to climb up on my bed, and I could feel it's weight pressing down on my legs. Pretty terrifying.

It's been interesting reading all of your experiences, I'm glad this thread and other articles on the internet exist or I would be starting to doubt my sanity

I'm not gonna read the thread because I got well paranoid I was going to get it for ages after my friend described it to be but I feel for those of you that do <3 sounds so dire... :(

I had this only once as far as I can remember. I was still a teenager and sharing a bedroom with my sister.
I was awake but couldn't move, I thought I was dying. I tried to shout for help to my sister, but couldn't produce a sound.

So scary - only much later I found out what it was. :(

Later in life I've had a few false awakenings (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/False_awakening) which are more annoying than scary really, because you think you're getting up and then you realise you're still in bed, repeat 5 times!

had this happen quite a few times, usually after many hours of alcohol, mdma or mephedrone. scary as fuck, the last time it happened i remember a tingly feeling of a hand grasping my neck then slowly going down my body, couldnt move, felt like something was pinning me down. other times i wake up and cant move, then for some reason my body starts to shake, i recall one time i felt like i was having some violent intense fit, woke up to find for some reason i had ejaculated and was sweating, felt de-personalized. weird. also had a few very very lucid dreams before, running around stuck in a dream, then woke up and was still dreaming... but i didnt realize it. went about my day then got this feeling of doom and terror... heard this weird "ahhhhhhhhHHHHHHH" like my mind was screaming then bang... woke up confused and thought i was still dreaming again... but i was awake
