Sleep paralysis

Sorry not to read the whole thread, I'm just pure lazy.
Probably someone mentioned it before; but it sounds like what you had was an outer body experience, or maybe a dream you took control of.
Sleep paralysis is when your mind wakes up; but your body still thinks it's asleep. you feel as though your pinned down unable to move anything but your eyes, and there's a weird evil presence in the room....
damn scary.
Happened to me for 3 nights in a row, no drugs, no nothing.

I've had it a few times and it is truly terrifying, but there's one episode that really sticks out in my mind: I 'woke up' one night to find I couldn't move and there was a heavy weight on my chest pinning me down. I could also sense an evil entity in the room with me, but just outside my field of view. I then started to rise up off the bed towards the ceiling and could see everything in my room in a kind of weird half light (the room was actually totally dark). When I reached the ceiling I turned (or was turned) round to face my sleeping partner, then started to descend towards her with my arms held out. It was then I realised I was going to kill her and there was nothing I could do about it because the entity was controlling my every move - that's when I started to scream... Just before my hands could grip her neck I finally came out of it and found myself sat up in bed looking at her, just as she woke up and said 'what's up with you?'. This really shook me up and I was scared to go back to sleep in case I finished the job properly. God knows what would have happened if I hadn't 'returned' when I did.

Myoclonic jerks was something else I used to suffer from (especially on MXE) - I used to wake us both up several times a night jerking so hard (fnar, fnar) that I actually left the bed. (Christ, my missus has had a lot to put up with :\)

Woah sounds crazy

Id also get this thing on the edge of sleep, very mild paralysis, couldnt move and for some weird reason i could hear music playing as clear as day. then id force myself awake. then itd happen again. after the 10th time i started to get pissed off

^Not everyone, some people have a disorder in which they lack that capacity, and act out their dreams. Weird.
Can we have this as a new Rule of the Internet (like, "If you can imagine it, there's porn of it"): Immediately after anyone posts a hasty generalisation, the next post must contain a link to a video clip showing an exception?

Many dogs do that, although to a less extreme extent. Chloé often used to "run" in her sleep, and her paws would twitch slightly. I used to say she was dreaming she was a wolf, running with the pack.

Earlier on, I discovered that there is Seinfeld porn. I mean, the Laws of the Intertubes dictate it must be so, but I just never imagined myself getting off to George awkwardly bonking Elaine and eating pastrami off her tits when Kramer skittishly slides into the room with a throbbing hard-on. Now I have, and I can never unimagine it.
I've had sex with my partner while totally asleep.
A plumber in Nottingham once told me "t'other night I woke up on me knees with the missus pissing herself laughing, she said I'd been spanking her arse and calling her 'naughty nurse'". Then I asked him if the boiler was fixed. He said it wasn't, and left. True story.

I am on a mission to derail every single thread in EADD. Things are going well.

Erm... there is one, which is why I said it. "I've always thought it was the most erotic of the salted, cured meats". "The Blood", I think the episode is called. Man, Seinfeld is great. In fact, it's off the rails ;)

I think night terrors are more common in kids, and that sleep paralysis is associated with stimulant use, so that makes sense, but yeah, once you experience it often enough to learn to understand what's happening and not to panic it's OK, but waking up powerless to move or even scream with an evil demon in the room is pretty fucking rubbish.

Used to get it quite alot when i was a kid, id be in bed next thing i know i cant move. Id hear some entity laughing only it was the most fked up laugh you ever heard it would run upstairs and into my room and then push my chest down. One time i caught a glimpse of it and it was human like and morphing into different faces. my nan told me to put a Crucifix next to my bed hahaha

I still get sleep paralyses sometimes once in a blue moon now but no terror. What i find is if it happens once and i try to get to sleep again straight away the same thing happens again. I always have to get out of bed and get a drink or go to the toilet and then try sleep again

My theory on night terrors are they are just sleep paralysis but you get scared and it turns into a bad trip, because its very similar to the way you lucid dream. If im tired i can emulate it by forcing my brain to stay awake its hard for me to explain

I had an incident of sleep paralysis last night, where I awoke from a dream which I don't really remember but ended with me being trapped somewhere, but then I was awake and unable to move still, and tried to shout help, where am I or something. I then lay in my hospital bed for a while feeling a bit stupid and not really sure whether I'd actually shouted anything out. None of the other patients said anything so I'm guessing I didn't.

I think there is some truth in it being about lying on your back though, I usually sleep on my front or side and never get sleep paralysis, but my hospital bed was propped up so I was on my back last night.

Had a few times as a kid but usew to get it quite often when i was taking loads of pills. Use to freak me out but after a while ii kinda gotta in to it...no movement or braething but always 'broke' thro' bu concentrating on my pinkie finger and as soon as i moved it a tiny bit the paralysis was gone. Had some wild hallucinations as well ..Nowegian (dont ask) hikers climbing thro' my window in all the gear..very odd.

It's never fucking Scarlet Johansson, is it? Always weird scary shit. Just once, a beautiful woman stroking my hair and whispering "Shhhhhhh" in my ear would be nice.

I envy you guys with Scarlett Johansen and Norweigan hikers, I get Freddie Kruger stood at my door-way, hands sliding through my open window, strangulation by hooded figures, being grabbed from behind, people talking about how to murder me.
And to top it off: Exploding Head Syndrome!

Jeeez, I'm just glad that some other people from the UK actually like Seinfeld! The weird looks I've got when mentioned 'this is the best sitcom ever'
Of course it's based on the Honeymooners, with jackie gleason; Coltdan, have you seen the pawn stars when they rolled up in this guy's purple stretched lincon continental with cigar burns? The count, from count's customs said noooo. They all interlink, pawn stars, american restoration, counting cars.
Early Seinfeld is the best though, for 6 series! People here say friends just coz it's poured down there neck 24/7.
Just a lil titbit before I go, If you buy the DVDS on ebay of Seinfeld, Jerry mentions he hated doing the 9'th series, and the comeback show was a no no.

I take control of my dreams every night ;)
Try to look at your hands in a dream, it'll mess you up good.

I still need to watch Seinfeld. Always well behind on TV shows and whatnot.

Sleep paralysis, usually get it when I'm really ill or hungover/coming down from something. Fucking terrifying. More commonly, I get lucid dreams and almost always use the opportunity to bang people I otherwise couldn't. It's weird because I find it hard to maintain the balance between knowing I'm dreaming and waking up. Sort of like that bit on Catchphrase where you have to reveal the big picture.

Sleep is just weird in general. Since I moved house I've been exclusively having videogame-related dreams. Another one tied in with sleep paralysis is the dreams where you die. For me, it's usually a nuclear bomb going off, and there's a rush of heat, everything goes really slow, I can't move properly or think or breathe and everything slowly goes to red and I wake up still unable to move and shitting it.

edit: re looking at your hands when you're dreaming, that one never gets me, nor does looking at writing or clocks, but looking into the sky always does. The moon is always always abnormally huge, occasionally spinning round the sky at an alarming rate (any rate at all would be alarming tbh) and it freaks me out into realising I'm dreaming.

I have it form time to time. The first time i ever had it (around 10) i fought I'm dying. I just felt this great pressure on my chest and i couldn't move at all feeling like I'm being suffocated. It goes without saying how scared i was.
I never talked to anyone about it but later I googled my symptoms and found out what it was.

It actually fascinates me now. I usually have it if i sleep in daytime/late morning, on my back and especially if there is a lot of light falling on my face. Whenever i have "an episode" i sort of play with it. I just lay there feeling like I'm being dragged back to sleep and trying to move my fingers (if i do i wake up) then falling back to half-sleep and repeat. Its never scary anymore but then i never have any monster hallucinations or anything raping me or anything like that. Sometimes i can have a very lucid dreams that i really up to date with my real life. Like for example if i had to go to a bank i can have a very realistic dream of me going to the bank and then i wake up and for a few minutes I'm not sure if i really was to the bank or not. Not sure if thats somehow connected to the sleep paralysis but they happen under the sae conditions - sleeping when its light and on my back.

The weirdest episode i ever had was when i was coming down after a night of partying on MDMA. I was half-asleep trying to fall asleep and suddenly heard a very loud clap over my head and someone said HEY!. I jumped up but there was no one. And couldn't be. I couldn't quite get my head around what happened then for a while haha...even had some thoughts that there was some kind of paranormal activity in my house hahah. But not i think it was just another sleep paralysis related thing.

Yeah same you get dragged into the state, you can feel your self being dragged into it and you have to try pry your eyes open with your brain.
