Skrillex? What do you guys think?

Don't you hate when you have created a monster? None of my friends even listened to EDM until I introduced them to it. I think I had a Skrillex song playing in my car or something and they asked who it was, etc. Now they and all their friends obsess over him. I mean, I like a few of his songs, and its fun to listen to while rolling (but seriously, what isnt) but jeez, he's not a god.
 
I like one, maybe two songs by him. I really, really don't like his housy dubstep stuff. Its retarded.
 
Skrillex is fucking bastardizing dubstep... all these kids i went to rehab were like yeah i love dubstep, but then I ask em if they like skream, caspa, benga, etc and they all are like who? we only know skrillex and hes the best - blah blah blah - FUCK skrillex, i mean seriously hes not even that talented.
 
Seeing him tonight at a festival and I am really looking forward to seeing if he is as bad as I have seen live. I've seen him before he was this big so he wasn't messing around as much. If he gets too drunk to mix and keeps talking I WILL BOO HIM!
 
Good production and beats but to me as a british guy, he seems to be showing typical american over the top take on music
 
Not sure what he meant either, but Skrillex is literally ruining dubstep single handedly. I saw him on Friday and it was just awful. There is too many people here in the states who think that real dubstep is that glitchy, screetching sound when it is so much different than that. I can't even believe the amount of people who don't even know Skream, Benga, or Coki and for those who do they don't even like them. Some people think Skrillex is OG dubstep, it is pathetic.

Why? He indirectly caused the entire genre, which was JUST beginning to leave an impression on mainstream society, to be classified in ONE way.

Kode9 said (correctly, I feel) that dubstep is a huge bassline with WHATEVER YOU WANT on top of it. Now when I go to dubstep shows I only hear Skrillex-sounding songs. Its aweful. I've been a junglist for a while so when I finally started hearing all the different sides of dubstep I was amazed....and as years went on the diversity grew....

...until Skrillex....

shows in the United States circa 2008-2010 had better dubstep than they do now, I'd argue.

I have NO problems with the man's production, but I feel like his Deadmau5ian fame combined with dubstep's timely emergence into the mainstream created a recipe for disaster.

ALSO, alot of Skrillex's production ISNT even dubstep. They're better considered as Fidget Breaks.

ALSO ALSO.....Skrillex is in the running for TOP DJ AND HES NOT EVEN A DJ! Hes a Controllerist!!!!!!!!

again I have no problems with the man himself but greater society is so stupid

Thanks for the agreement. Derek Vincent Smith made Skrillex look like an amateur on Friday night at the Congress. It was pathetic.

No creativity or emotion? Are you fucking kidding me. Not based on recent popularity or sell out shows etc, id say hes one of the most talented electronic musicians out there. But i have to admit his dubstep is a bit lame but his electro-house-dubsteppy shit is out of this world

Skrillex used to be in a bad called From First to Last. Anyone who thinks his music is good should go look up that band on youtube. I'm not sure which is worst, his vomiting in that or his electronic vomit in Skrillex.
 
Lol yea that was a good one. I saw Skrillex a few weeks ago open up for Pretty Lights. PL did well as usual and Skrillex was awful! I wrote a review about it in the live show review thread. I bought yet ANOTHER skrillex ticket a few days ago though! AHHHHH. I hate supporting this guy but Dada Life and Dillon Francis are also on the bill! Dada Life are some of my favorite guys ever and I saw Dillon Francis last week... he killed it.
 
i was really stunned by his sound to begin with, but its all sounding exactly the same, going for the 'shock' factor makes it less interesting each time. i genuinely like ruffneck flex and the reptile theme though.
 
Yea true. I liked him alot at first because nobody really sounded like that. So in your face and heavy. After listening to ALL of his songs and realizing he uses the same beat down section... it got old lol.
