I've moved to a country where English is not a first language. Nearly every time I go somewhere, like shopping for example, someone tries to speak Swedish to me, then looks at me like I'm a retard when I speak in English.

So, today, I turned the tables. I started using Australian slang, saying things like "mate" and "cheers".

I'm really enjoying the "what the fuck" looks on peoples' faces in these situations.

Problem solved.

Except I still get lost at, and on the way to, the gym, as every thing is written in Swedish. This country is a trip out; I am in the land of "what the fuck" :D

Aw hahaha! You'll get the hang of it somehow ;). I can't imagine living in a country where English is not the first language. I gotta be prepared for it and know some common words at least

^^^I LOVE being in countries where english is not spoken very much. It's a challenge for me and I like to use a combination of my limited vocabulary, charades, humility and a good dose of humor. It makes for some hilarious conversations and cross cultural bonds!=D

Something positive from my day: a shy second grader continually calling me mom before correcting himself and calling me by my name. You know you have made a kid comfortable with you when they call you mom!:)

I dont know where it came from.. but for a second I felt like all our efforts were fucked.. But then I woke up and remembered there is an amazing struggle going on... i remembered that the only thing that matters is how many people are better off at the end of the day.. i realized that, we the earth, are makeing progress.. that moving slow is deceptive, because in the end things move so fast.. so I guess i realized how much of a step any step in the right direction is..

That's a good way of looking at things. I think you're very wise, NSA, n I've learnt a lot from you. You're a credit to Bluelight

I have learned as much or more from you evel.. its so complex but simple it can give a crazy soul headaches =D

hahaha I've never heard anyone say they've learnt something from me before lol but yeah the human condition is one that can give headaches but it's exciting as you can never really get an answer - you can get different perspectives from people, different theories and all that but it just keeps going on and on and on in a circle... more questions bring "answers" which bring more questions and on it goes and keeps going...

ok I'm waffling now...

something positive??? I did some volunteering, it stopped raining for 5 minutes, I'm NOT over my overdraft LOL xxxx
