It's all a big disraction from the horrors of Manus Island Detention Centre, the deception of labelling refugee interception by the Navy "protecting our borders" in a veil of secrecy for "national security" - and the horrors of the weasely individuals that make up our top level of government.
Tabloid fodder. Conjecture. Claims
by shady people looking to exonerate other not-so-squeaky-clean-despite-protestations-to-the-contrary-people.
It sells papers/gets ratings - ill give the story that much.
But to be honest, most of the efforts to clear Corby's name have led me to feel that she probably isn't innocent.
The AFP (or whoever allegedly 'disappeared' the airport check-in CCTV tapes) may have been looking out for their own reputation/interests by not handing the security tapes to the Indonesian Courts - or, perhaps they got lost through the incompetence of bureaucracy.
It happens - look at the WA senate ballot papers that went missing.
Foul play? Conspiracy? Cock-up? Who knows?!
Best not to make your mind up based on ambiguous evidence though, I reckon.
With the initial public sentiment being strongly on Corby's side, the political fall-out to be seen to be
helping this foreign government frame such an innocent seeming (white) Aussie girl would have been worse than the virtual silence in the Australian community when the AFP gave Indonesian law enforcement information regarding the "Bali nine" (in breach of international treaties Australia is a signatory to, stating that our government agencies will not collaborate with other nations to convict people of crimes punishable by death).
There is probably more to this story than we will ever know for certain - but the way some of the main players have conducted themselves does not (in my eyes, in the very least) give me much hope that the "Schapelle is innocent" story is much more than a fanciful spin campaign that keeps the chequebook-journalism dollars rolling in.
I know there are a lot of people who
want to believe - but frankly I take more comfort in knowing that whatever scheme the family may have had going, they fucked it up (rather than think that corrupt baggage handlers are operating a generous weed lottery in suitcases across the land).
Although, if this is the case - can I put in an order for a couple of keys of that chunky hydroponics to be slipped into my case on my next domestic flight? Thanks fellers.
I don't mean to belittle anyone's argument or point of view here - but I dug up my original response to the "expendable project" doco back when you first posted a link to it, poledriver....I'm not going to watch it again, sorry;
me said:
they seemed to gloss over the blatant agendas and bias of the corporate media and try to target the ABC. they show a 'clarification' on lateline, followed by a soundbyte presumably from talkback radio, saying the ABC issued a clarification on a story at 4 in the morning. very odd - just one of the strange choices of supporting evidence.
and they made a big point of saying that schapelle corby became a deliberate source of 'entertainment' (as a propaganda tool) - and follow this with guys from 'the chaser', as well as paul mcdermott, mikey robbins and judith lucy taking the piss out of her.
well...yeah - that's what those comedians (all very sardonic aussie comedy folk) do best! especially on the programs that they were on which were essentially news-based comedy tv shows.
corby was big news - and tasteless as it may have been, fair game for comedians' cheap jokes.
the suggestion of a conspiracy there is pretty laughable. which is a shame, because it seems like they may have had some really interesting points involving the AFP, DFAT and the australian government - but it's hard to take seriously when a lot of their sources seem to be talkback radio, a current affair and weird convoluted conspiracy stuff.

Maybe I shouldn't give so much credit to this "revealing" documentary that is supposed to lift the lid on the corruption that saw an innocent young lady imprisoned in a balinese prison hell - but it was so incoherent and
unconvincing that I found myself more convinced of her guilt. It's loaded with obvious agendas and ridiculous assertions.
This may be really unfair criticism, but if I was locked up overseas, I wouldn't want clowns like that speaking on my behalf. Yikes!
