Scariest Films Ever?

Oh, the devils advocate and the shining are both freaky as hell too. Sorry about the doublepost but i'm at work and have to keep images turned off so I cannot see the 'edit' button.

damn... i just watched "The Wicker Man"... not scary (tho i'm sure it'd give my mum nightmares) but fkn awesome! it kinda got me thinking about horror movies in general, and while this question is probably best reserved for it's own thread... who would agree that horror movies are perhaps the most philosophical media available in this current pop culture of ours? perhaps it just me and that whole analysis of fear but yeah... :)

One of my all time favorites. It's an older movie, but a classic (no magnificent special effects). It used to scare the heck out of me the first few times I saw it:

The fetching Venetia Stevenson stars in this excellent horror film as Nan Barlow, a young college student who is writing a paper on witchcraft. On winter break, Nan travels to New England to do some research and, on one of her professor's recommendations, stays in a small hotel run by the spirit of an undead witch. Soon, Nan finds that rest of the hotels boarders are witches as well and that she is about to become their annual Candalmas Eve sacrifice. Atmospheric and genuinely scary, HORROR HOTEL not only stars the inimitable Christopher Lee, but boasts direction by John Llewellyn Moxley, who would later go on to direct episodes of classic TV shows such as THE AVENGERS, HAWAII FIVE-O, MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE, CHARLIE'S ANGELS, KUNG FU, MAGNUM P.I., and MIAMI VICE. The 78 minute uncut version is titled CITY OF THE DEAD.

p.s. I also like the old and new versions of "The Haunting"

The Thing

It's a little old but definitely one of the best in the genre, the less I tell you about it the better.
