Scariest Films Ever?

Yea Event Horizon is something else. BUt Id have to say when I was 9 yrs old I watched Freddy part II the part where theyre in the school bus and the floor breaks apart making it look like a canyon.

For some reason Pet Semetary creeped the hell out of me. And that lady with spinal meningitis still gives me the goosebumps.

As for the best horror movie I've seen, I personally like The Shining.

dude, i just skimmed through but i saw no JAWS!!!!

this movie even made me afraid of lake water!!!

and when jurrasic park came out i saw it when i was like 6 or 7 or whenever....scared me shitless...i had to hide behinde my mom when the t-rex ate that dude in the bathroom. it's cool now though.

the grudge was pretty fuckin scarey too. my bf actually jumped towards me, and he NEVER does that!!! plus i was high so it was that much scarier to me.

If you thought Jaws was Scary, wait until you see Pirana! 8o
Pirana made the movie Jaws look like Finding Nemo.

Try to watch the original 1981 version because the newer version doesn't have any violence.

the only time i can remember being scared by a movie is when i saw "to kill a mockingbird" when i was very young. I know its not a horror movie but i had nightmares about boo radley for a few weeks after i saw it.

jaws too, but not the movie, just the fact that it made me aware that there are giant monsters in the ocean that can actually eat you.

Candy man - Freaks you our if you think about it.

I thought it was a good gory movie though in the end I don't think it was anything particularly scary. Kinda poetic in a way as well...

best horror movies:

Shining (by kubrick)...terrifying, a completely psychological fear...this one you MUST watch it alone, in the dark.
Hellraiser 1 (ake "the pact" by clive barker) and Hellraiser 2 (aka "hellbound"): somewhat psychedelic, gore, completely unsaine (deeply sadomasochist)
Ring (the japanese version, not the US remake) : psychological fear, very good one

and a few classics:

Texas chainsaw massacre (the original one), more funny than freaky
Freddy 1 (nightmare on elm street), somewhat freaky

and a few hilarious ones:

Braindead (I think the english title is "Dead Alive")...so fun
Evil dead (the trilogy)....hilarious

others (just nice to watch):

Event horizon (really freaky!)
The thing (by carpenter...nice)
Night of the living dead. A classic.
Zombie (I don't know if it's the same title in english...it's a zombie movie taking place in a commercial gallery...it's fun)
Alien 1 (not really an horror movie, but it's somewhat freaky)

ENJOY !
:-)

what about freaky horror video games?

Silent hill 4 ....really freaky, unsettling and gore. Probably one of the most freaky video games.

Doom 3: wow, this one is really freaky too, and somewhat unsettling.

Alien vs preadator 2....pretty freaky when playing with the marine character.

Resident evil (I only played the second episode which really scared me for hours, facing my computer alone, late in the night)...But I heard the last one (for game cube) is really great (it's an exact remake of the first one but with better graphism)

Resident Evil 1 was by far the scariest game I have ever played!

The only Silent Hill game I played was part 2. I just thought it was a cheap rip off of resident evil, so I never bothered to play the other ones.
Barely made me jump 8)

my mom made me watch ''rosemary's baby'' when i was 8 months pregnant....bitch
that was a mistake.....

im pretty sure i remember that you didnt actually 'see' the baby ( am i right? ) , if i am , thats the best part....so very anti-climactic

The Thing

I saw it the other day knowing only the basic premise (some alien thing is found, stuff ensues). It may be from 1982 but the special effects are great for the time, and I actually found myself being caught off guard a few times. It's definately worth checking out. I don't want to give anything else away.

Very good film!
I think the most suspensful part was when Kurt Russell was conducting the blood test

^ seconded. 'the thing' is excellent.

"I know you gentlemen have been through a lot, but when you find the time, I'd rather not spend the rest of this winter TIED TO THIS FUCKING COUCH!"

:)

hellraiser inferno is shit (even worse than shit) when compared to hellraiser 1 and 2 which are wonderful horror movies (the two very best ones of the 6 hellraiser movies): watch them, you'll understand what I mean (they do have a very special unsaine atmosphere that other episodes do not).
