Scariest Films Ever?

unfortunatley for you, im not an idiot and i dont watch single movies in a series in a random order. we just happen to have different opinions. i really didnt like 1 at all... hellbound was fine, although it was more grotesque than frightening. if youre reffering to some "symbolism" or "philosophy" bullshit, thats not why i watch horror movies.

Fortunately for me, I wasn't considering you as an idiot in anyway, and watching a single movie in a serie wouldn't make you an idiot: it happens all the time, even to good people.

we just happen to have different opinions: exactly, and this had nothing to do with me considering you as an idiot

if youre reffering to some "symbolism" or "philosophy" bullshit, thats not why i watch horror movies: neither do I, but when an horror movie happens to deal with some symbolism/philosophy, that's not bullshit, that's a good point, to my opinion.

I can't think of any that have really scared me, but I really enjoy watching good horror movies.

Kubricks Shining: his directing style made it a great movie, but I do wish he could have kept to the book more, that would have made a great movie even better

Pet Semetary: The first one was really good, the second was absolute shit

Event Horizon: Probably came the closest to actually scaring me becuase the first time I watched it I was alone with no lights on and on the fringe of sleep

The charachter Frank from Donnie Darko freaks me out a little.
I just saw the movie Audition, and well the end was freaky. Esp when that girl is saying 'deeper' in japanese, AGH! The rest was pretty boring though.

and yeah, Event Horizon scared me, esp the fact i didn't expect the movie to be like that at all.

if you liked the movie PET SEMETARY, then check the book out..the book is ten times better...

has anyone seen FREAKS???its a very disturbing movie, and nothing has ever been made like it since...it wa made in 1950s by TOD BROWNING, and it features real life disfigured/sideshow freaks...

SESSION 9 was definbitely creepy....

TEXAS CHAINSAW MASACRE(original) is the most distubing/powerful flic ever made..the remake was solid, especially when compared t othr crud made tday..

flicks that are going to be remadevery soon are>>

anyone here see the flik BLACK CHRISTMAS??i havent but ive always heard it is an awesome flick....

PET SEMATARY IS FUCKIN AWESOME...and yes i agree...that book is the SCARIEST FUCKIN SHIT I HAVE EVER READ!!! IT even surpasses reading the Amityville Horror alone at night in my bed! *shuddder*
I found the first CHILDREN OF THE CORN exceptionally scary. BUt i was only ten years old so maybe that may haev something to do with it. But i am rarely wrong!

Reiteration

^ King hasn't written a book yet that I'm not a huge fan of :)

I'm a huge fan of the Stephen King mini series Rose Red. Quite scary, and most of the effects (creature/ghost effects anyways) appear to be done without CGI so it retains some realism that is lacking in most modern horror films. In my mind there is nothing less scary than shitty CGI. Fuck I hate CGI...

It goes for 4 hrs but every minute of those hours is vital...

Extremely atmospheric.

* Edit - looking back over this thread there isn't a word I've said in this post that I haven't already said. Oops! *

lostpunk-do NOT even attemptto read Skings book INSOMNIA..it blows, i couldnt get past page 200....a book i was highly disappointed in was SHINING, the movie was awesome, but the book feell flat..then again, i saw the flick first, then read the book so....

king might have not written a bad book (which i could debate about) but man a few of the movies made from the books- such as tommyknockers and the stand- pretty damn bad

I enjoyed Insomnia.

I own all of King's books and have read them all at least 3 times each :)

And you're so wrong about the shining...

The Stand was the absolute worst Stephen King film/mini series ever made!!! :X

And the worst part, there were famous people in the movie 8(

Yep, I love Black Christmas.. Have it on DVD. I highly recommend it. It is one of the scariest films I have seen.

Also, for a great Haunted House flick, see if you can find and old film called 'The Changeling' It had George C. Scott play the lead, and it freaked me out the first time I watched it.

Ok I saw the beginning of Darkness Falls on cable...and I was really impressed (especially the part where the "tooth fairy witch whatever" is making these horrid sounds and banging and scratching on the ceiling/walls of the house, while the boy is all alone shivering and hiding in the white bathtub.

It all went downhill from there :( FUCK why can't horror movies nowadays just sustain my craving for true fear?

the original night of the living dead scares the shit out of me (damn 'irrational zombie fear'). i guess they didnt romero didnt copyright it or something, because that movie is in the public domain and you can download the whole thing for free on archive.org. a bunch of other cool stuff on there too, old talkies and government films on how to survive an atomic bomb..its all free.

ive never seen it, but audition looked scary as hell when i saw the bit on sci-fis top 100 horror flicks... has anyone seen that one?

Gozu - another Miike horror film, mostly to due with atmosphere and simply INSANE creepy shit happening around a seemingly ghost town in japan. Not for the faint of heart.

Three Extremes - 3 crazy horror films from 3 different directors, all pretty fucking crazy weird and creepy.

Frailty - Some crazy family murdering peple who they think are demons, that sounds a lot lamer then it really is but you can trust me it's a good one.

Another vote for Audition, not not much 'creepy' but just disgusting and gory and WRONG! Torture taken to the extreme, it makes Hostel look like some pussssssy ass shit. Ugh!!!! Makes me shudder to even think back to it. Miike, Miike, Miike, you do not dissapoint.

Night of the living dead (original) - I just saw this recently and was FREAKED THE FUCK OUT! They put build suspense with style and grace, the first scene had me so freaked out I almost had to turn it off and this is some black and white flick!
