Ethnobotanicals [Salvia Subthread] Buccal (quid) / Sublingual / Oral Salvia

I put it in the front of my mouth like with chewing tobbaco and movved it to under my tongue.

It potentiated my oxy high, and added a nice body buzz, and some gigglies. Ill try more next time, i only used a tiny pinch

I have successfully tried powdered 15x snorted and experienced visuals and a mild sense of salvia intoxication that lasted 30 minutes or more.

This seems appealing to me. I don't much care for the full on mind-fuck vortex experience with smoked extract, although a milder version that lasted a little longer seems okay by me.

I'd love to hear more input on this, such as if the anxiety levels that are typical of smoked Salvinorin are a bit diminshed with the sublingual method?

I do enjoy a nice kratom chew, and coca once in a blue moon. Those aborigines were certainly on to something.

A friend of mine claimed to have lived several separate lives in different parts of the universe simultaneously from taking too much strong salvia tincture sublingually. I believe him too, because he gets this look in his eyes when he tells people that he never gets at any other time. And it's different from his usual tall-tale look.

So I guess a good tincture under the tongue ought to work.

Tinctures definitely work orally. Is a much mellower and longer-lived trip best enjoyed in a quiet, dark place. Almost like a completely different drug orally - meaning I actually like it :D

Never tried it with dried extracts, but with oral tinctures it works fine. Does burn a bit though :!

Been interested in trying this myself recently, would it be better off getting an extract rather than whole leaves and if so what strength extract? Don't fancy the smoking route but from what I've read about oral adminstration it sounds like something I'd quite like.

There are ready-to-use oral Salvia tinctures available on tinterwebz, Snolls, albeit a mite expensive. Traditionally fresh leaves were chewed like tobacco, I believe, but I presume it would work with dried/enhanced leaf too. Would have no idea about the dosage though, I'm afraid :\

You know, using Salvia because you're "bored" is a rather horrible idea. She looks down on that sort of thing...

Oh well, maybe you'll find out the hard way.

Cheers me dear, shall have a look about. Might go for the leaves first as though I'm not inexperienced it's been a while. I quite fancy growing some actually. Shall do a bit of research on dosage, from what I've read it doesn't seem to be an exact science.

I suppose one could be made using some everclear inexpensively. Sometimes you can get salvia in bulk for relatively cheap.

Yeah, man, wtf? Doing Salvia "to pass the time"??? Smoke some pot or something, salvia is not for getting high, it's for exploration. I'm sure it won't tolerate that kind of abuse.

There are a bunch of papers floating around in cyberspace, explaining that Salvinorin A is very difficult to absorb sublingually. It seems that in it's vapourous state, it will pass very easily through the alveoli of the lungs, but to cross mucous membranes needs transport from other substances found in the plant. Alcohol helps it get into the bloodstream. This is why chewing the standardized extracts seems to have less effect than swilling the tincture. (Maybe hold a shot of whiskey in your mouth if you're doing the extract).

I would totally say do the "grow your own" thingy - fresh home grown Salvia is remarked upon to be the best way to go by far. Have a look over on Youtube at Terrence McKenna on Salvia Divinorum.

Salvia Quid method: FAILED! Need an EXPERT on Quidding to correct my usage please

I wanted a real experience. I took 10g of dried leaf. I mouthwashed first, and soaked the leaves in water for 10 mins. I just squished as much of it in my mouth as I possibly could and held it in there for about an hour, and chewed it every so often. About 10 minutes in, there was so much material in my mouth I had to take out half. After I started feeling minor effects, I took out the first half and put the other half in. The effects never got any stronger really.

Although it did make me very tired, and extremely lazy, and to its credit I have never seen the trees look so nice, I was looking for a stronger experience, and a psychedelic experience, but there was no visual effects at all. I also had to pee at lot every 5 minutes. When I closed my eyes there was some interesting hypnagogic imagery.

So I have some SPECIFIC questions about how I can make my method more effective..

= Would it be more effective if I didn't soak the leaves at all? I ask bc I think there was a lot of extra water in my mouth from the soaking, making it a lot more difficult to handle.

= Does the salvinorin ONLY get absorbed under the tongue, or does it get absorbed throughout the whole mouth? I wondered if I was wasting plant by having it in my whole mouth instead of trying to concentrate it under my tongue.

= Would making more quid balls and sucking them for a shorter duration work better? I am wondering if most of the salvinorin gets sucked out within 5 minutes, or if the leaf still has a lot to give even after it is much less bitter.

I tried gargling it, but usually when I did that I would either swallow, or gag, which probably didn't help things.

= so, any help to make a better quid would be appreciated.

I don't have any personal experience with Salvia, but the method I found for quid seems to be almost exactly what you did. It says to make one ball or cylinder of leaves and chew it slowly (once every 10 seconds) over the course of 30 minutes keeping the quid under your tongue between chews. During which you should hold the quid and juice in your mouth the entire time if possible. The guide also says to squeeze all excess water out of the leaves after soaking them. From what I've read the only reason for soaking the leaves in the first place, is because chewing dry leaves is unpleasant, so you could probably try it without soaking the leaves first.

I do know the quid method leads to a very mild experience and that Salvia is sometimes hit and miss with each use even when using the proper technique every time.

I haven't attempted quidding salvia yet (very curious about the experience and would like to though!), however, I've read before numerous times that quidding is only effective with extremely fresh leaves (as in, picked from a live salvia divinorum plant the day of ingestion). I suggest growing some salvia of your own if you intend to explore this method of ingestion further.

It sounds like you were feeling the effects. The quid method doesn't blast you out of this world like smoking it does, you get a more subtle prolonged trip comparatively.

Also, don't take salvia recreationally/ to get messed up, its a powerful plant and will kick your ass if you're not careful.

What exactly were you expecting?

Maybe next time do it in a dark room with your eyes closed and see what you experience. I've always felt like salvia turns on dreaming while you are awake (and when you smoke a large dose, the dream is so powerful it knocks reality out of the way for a bit, leading to a very powerful, confusing experience).
