Nostalgia S&G Video Game Nostalgia Thread

i was trying to find a way to play this when i was using acid a few years back, could only find a play through on you tube. still good memories:

a few years later i remember getting the computer game myst. i totally couldn't figure it out. i spent hours getting no where just walking around the first level. also on super nintendo i had the same experience with illusion of gaia. i was and probably still am too stupid to figure out role playing games. i got pretty psyched hoping they'd be a good experience, but wasn't the case for me.

i got pretty far in the original medi-evil for playstation.. that was one of my favorite games. like the game play was a little sticky, but it was pretty easy and fun to deal with. a simple minded person like me was challenged, yet they could still make it through the levels.

A couple of weeks ago I modded my old Playstation VITA so now as well as being able to run PS1/PSP/VITA ROMs natively it also has retroarch so I can can emulate snes games and pretty much anything else from the mid 90s and before.

I've spent the last 2 weeks trying to fill a 256gb SD card and I've already got 100s of games on it with 86gb still to go.

It's frigging dope. Currently hopping between Breath of Fire 4 and Danganronpa.

But wait, there's more! Buoyed by my success with the vita I dug out this raspberry pi 4 and installed RetroPie onto a micro SD card. This thing hooks up to any monitor via hdmi and supports usb controllers or bluetooth. It runs retroarch under the hood and once I've finished setting it up it should be good for everything from the 16 bit era plus PS1 Dreamcast and if I'm lucky a bit of N64 too. I might start a separate thread for emulation and homebrew.

For me it would have been around age 9 and that was the game Duck Hunt on the original Nintendo NES (the first one with the cartridges)

What was the earliest game you remember getting hooked on?

Preferably electronic..playing doctors with the neighbor you had a crush on behind the garage doesnt count!

This was my introduction to console gaming. I got my brother hand-me down NES when I was 7 along with a copy of duck hunt and super mario bros on the same cartridge.

My nostalgia falls with FF3 (SNES) and Crono Trigger

Then it blossoms into Mass Effect 2 and Fallout New Vegas

Lands finally with Cyberpunk 2077 and BG3

Chrono Trigger is one of the best. I think I must have posted about it at some point in this thread.

I've tried to play Chrono Trigger so many times and I just never make it to the end somehow. Think I got stuck around the pre historic era last time. Chrono Cross on the other hand is one my favourite RPGs of all time after the various Final Fantasy's that made up my childhood.

Fun fact neither were released in the UK because Squaresoft were insane in the 90s and hated money so I didn't play either until my late 20s.

Never played the console donkey kongs but I loved Donkey Kong Land 2 on Game Boy. I'll never forget that slime climb level, so stressful.

Neat thread.

You gotta check out the snes dkc 1, 2, and 3

Diddy's Kong Quest is in my top 5 all time for sure.

I have them for my emulator. The graphics on these games hold up quite well and the game play is exquisite. I actually have the SNES and carts but the monitor I used as a display died long ago and the only other composite input I have is in mothballs ATM.

Somewhere in Chaos Manor

My favorite on SNES (besides the Mario games) was Arkanoid

So have you ever made it all the way through them? Which is your favorite?
