The case in Hollywood with Blake lively and Ryan Reynolds in a twisted case of false claims of sexual harassment and that an innocent actor and director Justin Baldoni. It is all over YouTube just look or not. I am comparing her false claims and everyone in Hollywood canceling him; until he brought the reciepts aka 168 pages of emails and texts and is counter suing. If people aren't aware of the UK process of law, they may not sppreciate just how slow it can be.
It appears that the police were only involved in Septemer 2023 and with the historic nature of the allegations, may potentially have needed to interview a large number of people. That done they pass the evidence they have to the CPS who themselves would then have to review all of the evidence before deciding if the case fulfils two criteria:
-There is a reaonable chance of a prosecution succeeding
-That a prosecution is in the public interest
The latter of those two criteria have always concerned me and sadly, is typical of how UK law works. A very vague concept that is entirely subjective.
I submit the above document purely to make people aware of the scale of investigation that may have been involved. To be clear, the document does not assert guilt.

He's always been a Marmite character though, and no stranger to controversy. In fact he has seemed to go out of his way to be controversial.
Not long after 9/11 he played a prank dressing up as Bin Laden, which caused him to be "cancelled" and dropped from mainstream broadcasting for some time.
Then after some time he made a come back, and then there was that thing where he and Jonathan Ross made some prank phone call to Andrew Sachs, (Manuel from Faulty Towers,) live on air on BBC Radio 2, IIRC, about something to do with his daughter or grand daughter, which caused Sachs a great deal of upset and distress. Brand was fired once again IIRC.
He seems like a cockroach though, in terms of how indestructable he is. He always seems to find some way of making a come back or of re-inventing himself.
The de-monetisation of his You Tube channels following the allegations definitely hit him hard though. So much so that he used another platform instead and resorted to asking for donations etc from his fans and followers. Even if he is totally innocent, that was one move that reduced my respect for him. He still lives in luxury in a beautiful luxurious property, with a back garden backing on to a picturesque part of the river Thames IIRC. It's not as if he's stone cold broke.
He could easily sell up and down size to something more modest if he's really struggling for money. Asking his fans for donations to sustain his lavish lifestyle didn't go down well with me. I'm generally not a judgemental person, but that really quite rubbed me up the wrong way. Of course none of us is perfect and we all have our lapses in judgement, and I'm still open minded about him overall.

The inconsitancy I noted is that when you read the list of Russell Brand's assets, he's almost the last person who would benefit from a revolution.
So while I wasn't against my son reading the book, both of us were keen to see it as a stepping stone to better philosophy - or, to be fair, ALL philosophy. I would argue that at the very least someone should read Bertrand Russell's epic 'A History of Western Philosophy' which, while imperfect, does at least provide a bottom up approach.
Whoever described Russell Brand as 'thesaurus enthusiast' hit the nail on the head. Yes, sometimes there is a need for a very specific word, but from George Orwell to Ernest Hemmingway, good writers tend to agree that it's better to use a simple word wherever possible. To indulge in the overuse of uncommon words may be viewed differently in the US. In the UK people will tend to assume that circumlocution is just a way of deflecting from the fact that at base, a person doesn't really know what they are talking about.
I watched the Paxman/Brand interview and as someone noted 'Well, it was hardly Frost/Nixon, was it? More like a monkey throwing it's own excrement at a foghorn'.
To be fair to Paxman, he quickly decided to just give the airtime to Russell Brand on the basis that people could judge based on his own words. I think that was a good decision.

This may be before my time (well no I was in secondary school but it was before I'd heard of Russel Brand).
But this i remember well it was a huge hoohah all over the papers it nearly ended both of their careers. Probably should have done as they were tormenting an old man for lols but both of them managed to bounce back somehow. The universal condemnation was surprising at the time, but welcome.
It doesn't seem like that long ago but you really could get away with a lot more back then (early to mid 2000s) without anyone batting an eyelid. Less social media I guess, news spreads much faster nowadays.
