I agree with SHM nuthatches are awesome as are green woodpeckers. But in winter we get these tiny beauties (weighing no more than a 20 pence piece). They have been spotted resting on trawlers on trawlers as they travel from Northern Europe. Through force 10 gales, blizzards etc. They're simply miraculous and I wish their numbers weren't dropping. Only saw one in Yorkshire last year

Thats a Firecrest ?
I had a lovely Goldcrest come in the Garden in Febuary and he spent alot of time on My outdoor Xmas tree which at the time wasn't healthy at all .
After the Goldcrest had eaten all the insects the Tree is now thriving.

Hello brimz. That is the first pic I have ever down loaded in my life and I've made a complete cock of it. You are right. It's the strong coloured banding on the head that is different. Still they're both beautiful birds, and I've been up all night so forgive me. Download a decent pic of a goldcrest for us all then. That was too small. And thanks for the correction. Slightly off topic but my friend who has bi-polar says that it's down to birdwatching that provides the relief and comfort not the shit his overpaid uncaring psychiatrist prescribes.

Come on then SHM let's have a decent pic of a goldcrest. Earlier from my bedroom window I was watching some crows having a bit of a domestic with a couple of red kites.

Blue Tits all disappeared from my garden for a week last week. Busy screwing I expect. They all came back today.

Went to the red kite feeding station near here yesterday. It looked like this.

Amazing pics!

We have some incredible ornithological wildlife round here! (South East London)... In fact wehan Alex and I fist moved into this new flay about 6 weeks ago, we couldnt sleep for ages because of the Dawn Chorus!! Hah!

We have these amazing parakeets that are bright green and yellow! They are amazingly loud! Rumour has it that they are descendent's of a bunch of parrots that were released in the 60s when they filmed 'Queen Of Africa' in Richmond Park, and the just bred and thrived!

There are hundreds of them!!!

Have to agree with brimz. I think in ornithological terms they're certainly 'alien.' Just don't look right. We really do need to protect our dwindling songbirds. I think the writer Margaret Atwood who is a keen birder said that over 70 million birds are killed daily by cars, pesticides etc. When they're all gonethen we'll feel the fucking mozzies bite.

I use servImg (just google it) to upload some of my pics, I find that quite good. And free, of course!

Goldcrest smallest bird in the U.K but so colourfull.

If your gonna see one its most likely around this time , they are pretty nimble guys n don't hang about to long in one place either.

attention, bird experts!

we just spotted an unusual bird on the telegraph line in the back garden. it looked like a pigeon that had eaten a few too many pies, and it's colouring (especially its beak) is different from our usual pigeons or collared doves. any ideas what it is?
