RSPB Survey - Big Garden Bird Watch

a friend of mine just left Leeds to work for the RSPB in Dorset, she now just chills on the beach counting and helping birds, sounds great, plus once you have done one conservation job its easy to get a better one, might look into it after the summer

edit: brimz i used to love the really wild show as a kid, what happened to programs like that they were perfect

Blue Tits all disappeared from my garden for a week last week. Busy screwing I expect. They all came back today.

Went to the red kite feeding station near here yesterday. It looked like this.

Or from a falconer, avoid calling the rspca unless you want the buzzard to die. Contact a known local falconer he'd be able to care for it in a proper way before an eagle owl says nomnom.
not many falconers keep buzzards, they are not very good for hunting with, probably from a sanctuary as someone else said, or I suppose it could be a falconers display bird, did it have jesses on?

somone has a bird on my road that sounds exactly like the stabbing noise from psycho. Its pretty disturbing, I really want to know what the fuck it is. For ages I thought it was some machine or a rusty gate.

@SHM nice pics mate.
Blue Tits all over the Gaff here. Black Cap &his MRS have disapeared though;)
Black Bird is taking food home n as i said Dunnock is back n hes my favourite.
Also theirs a pair of Wood Pigeons n they aren't the brightest :)
Oh yeah saw a Kestrel on Sunday right up close amazing creature.
The Red Kites are more common in Wales i remember my old Man chatting about em. Never seen one here mind.

It didn't have jesses on.

I'm beginning to think it was wild.
We get alot of them in my area & some of them are huuuge.

I also see the odd heron, but very rarely.

plenty of herons here in inner city birmingham :D

..and here in, erm, outta space Wales.

Actually the other day I was out looking for kingfishers with my son and we disturbed a heron on the ground. Magnificent when they take off, though they look like they struggle to do so.

Heron population defo on the up spotted plenty last year . Yet to see one this year but i've heard from loadsa mates spotting em around.
You got many Fledglings around your gaff SHM ?
Theirs a few Great Tits n Blakbirds here atm.

Pesky Magpie been at the feeders , i was sure summat was wrong when 3 fat balls went in 2 days .
Well i caught it REd handed 2day , not sure what 2 do cos the feeders are for the garden birds and i don't want the Magpie to scare em off , cos i luv the smaller birds.
Any one got any advice bar getting an air rifle ?

Front of my house, car and pavement are covered in bird shit. I have 2 starling nests in my eaves - and yeah, about 8 million starling fledglings on the telegraph wires. Starlings are just as annoying as Magpies when it comes to the bird feeders. Which leads me to...

Keep catching them red-handed, clap hands scare them off. Eventually they get the message if persistent enough. I had the same problem with sparrows (there's thousands round here). Eventually I could go outside, clap my hands, and only the sparrows (not the tits etc) would fly away. G/f was impressed with that.

Yeah , thats the 1st time i've caught it red handed , although i had strong suscpions. I think evert time isee it i'll make my presence known .
As soon as it sees my shadow it usually flys off.
