I think a "hey, this flyer could have been better" is a valid and justifiable point to make... Certainly not something that warrants a "smoke it and die" response....
my only issue is that it shouldn't really matter.
I know alot of people are concerned when they get "poorly made" flyers that the party may not be real. And if someone handed me a flyer with this line up and it was a black n white quarter page flyer, i might be suspect.
however, by now, you should be well versed enough to be able to make that decision based on past promoter performance and not the flyer.
The difference between alot of the more grainy flyer designs and the the glossy ones is something as simple as DPI (or PPI)... it's the difference between hitting the 72 PPI or hitting the 300 PPI... so you really shouldn't make your decision based on that. Either way, both costs the same to print. Brad's flyer is no cheaper to print just b-c the design may not be "up to par" by your standards.
But regardless, you should go by the promoter's history.
Does EE INDUSTRIES have a habit of headliners not showing up or parties being cancelled..?
i think Brad has only cancelled one party in his entire rave history -- that's damned good considering he's been promoting for over 3 years - maybe 4)
and, unless i've been on crack, i don't think Brad has EVER had a headliner not show up.
That should be the main basis for going to a party.
Things you should know by now:
these things are YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to know. After all, you spend close to probably $100 or more of your hard-earned money on these events per month. And you should make educated decisions on who gets your money and which party you think will (by odds) actually go down as advertised on the flyers
you should know sound companies
you should know lighting companies
you should know laser companies
and you should definitely know promoters
so your basis shouldn't be flyer design... it should be your
knowledge on the promoter and the other aspects of the party.
In the above example:
Sound companies in this party: Log2 (hello!??!! They've been longer than probably 85% of the people on this board. Their sound has rarely if ever dissappointed... (altho' there's always SOMEone who claims to be not happy).
Light company in this party: Log2 ... same ...
Laser company in this party: Introspective Laser and Lighting ... a frequent laser tech for Ohio parties. Always professional. Always there. Always rock solid visuals! Plus, Log has a laser that I'm sure they'll be bringing. So, it WILL be a great visual show.
Promoter: 1 unfortunate shut down. 1 cancellation (due to date double booking). 0 incidence of headlienr no shows. That's over a 4 year history. that's a great track record. most promoters aren't as solid when you play the numbers game.
So, if you know -- and like -- the Djs, the above should be the only factor in whether or not you attend (well, besides another party, friends goign elsewhere, etc. those are other factors, obviously).
But it definitely shouldn't be "well, the flyer looks bad..."
and ppl who make there decisions based on something like that are probably also the types of ppl that promoters in Indy generally don't want in their events.... probably.
