i'm gonna jump into the fire and actually put in my three cents about the flyer.
while part of me agrees with adam about the classic old school product appropriation being kinda funny, my only issue is that while anyone who really knows their shit will pay attention to the djs on the bill, the only people who really gonna be attracted to a party with this kind of imagery anymore are 12 year olds with a serious cartoon affliction.
i say that with more than a grain of facetiousness, but at the same time, there is some truth to the idea that the rave scene is still bogged down in cartoony imagery and playskool mentalities.
the fact is, i would love to see this scene mature, and bring in more people who would enjoy the music, and less kids with ten inch toys hug round their necks. not that those kids are bad people, but they're gonna come cuz it's a party...period. but the people who aren't die hard ravers, who would possibly come dig on some good music, are possibly gonna ignore an event if the flyer doesn't catch them.
now i know some will say: fuck em. but let's face it, we've lost a lot of old schoolers who loved the music because of the juvenile attitudes and immature representation. how are we ever supposed to grow, if the only crowd we can attract are kids? we will keep enduring the 2 year turnover rule, and only be able to attract more kids, whereas i would love to see more and more older people able to ocme out and dig on some good music.
maybe this seems off base to some younger rave kids, but i myself am 31 years old, and while a good ole rave holds some attractions for me based ona good lineup, i for one, am not as tolerant of dumb kids acting like...well...dumb kids...while i just wanna hear some music.
there ya have it. some points to ponder...
