Pretty standard stuff around here . Expected more as i hadn't used for about a week. Bit gutted tbh. Maybe my expectations were to high , nah i should be fuked off a .4 not just feeling good. I dunno maybe it'll creep up on me -thinks wishfully .

Same gear here as it has been for months now darkish rocks (shotters powdering it up but not bashing it - not my ones anyway) nice n strong still catcj=hing a nod after 2 bags finished a t 12.00 ish

I mentioned cognitive therapy to my clinic doc on friday and he looked at me oddly and shock his head. He compared it to following a cult leader and also used religion as an analogy.
We have two doctors at this clinic, for probably two or three weeks we'll have a male one and then we've a female one for another two or three. They're always banging heads over what's the best for the patients.
The male doctor is only doing methadone patients for a couple of years and is fairly enthuastic - at the moment. He is also very interested in the science of addiction and is of the opinion that because of the effects of herion and addiction in general on the brain that it's very unlikely that many of us will be able to get clean and most of us will die of heart failure.
He's told me straight out several times that all of us at our clinic will die that way before our time! The female doctor told me she would find me someone to talk to as she thinks it will do some good! The female doc put me up 5mls - up to 55mls - a couple of weeks ago and told me it would stop my cravings, the other doc told me that was ridculous!
Two docs with two completly different medical opinions treating the same patients.
I'm finding it extremely difficult to stop smoking gear eventhough I'm getting nothing from it because i've to take my phy supervised everyday, so I don't get a chance to have gear without the phy. I have no idea whether the gear is any good or not!
One doctor tells me that he understands why it is I can't stop and the other doc says I should be able to and should of already have stopped.
Now I'm as mixed up as much as both their ways of treating me! :?
Hugely frustrating.

@alfo as usual under dosing , which is prevalwnt in the UK - if you want to control cravings you really need a minimum dose of bout 80-120 ml. Most scripts only keep sickness at bay which is why many people take gear on top of their script. On 55ml you would probably still feel the gear especially if you waited as long as you can between dosing..

He does realize that opiates don't damage the heart, doesn't he?

Sounds like a third rate doctor with an MD from garbage can :X

Alas, far too many 3rd rate doctors find their niche in Drug Treatment...a rare medical discipline where consistent mediocrity can be the best way to prosper. Only when clinicians follow the evidence base do they face attack from mad but influential 'moral' concerns. Must drive the handful of top-notch addiction specialists to distraction.

of course over use of heroin is bad for youre heart and extremely dangerous for anyone with a heart condition, heroin slows youre heart rate and can cause cardiac arrest...some people just have no idea what they are mouthing on about.

My Doc is one of the Old School & i would say he would rank in the top 20% that the NHS have these days as a Specialist Drug Dependence GP ( he has a full patient list in general practise to worry about as well ! )
He chooses to deal with Addiction & doesn't discriminate . He has a very harsh bedside manner & is too "real" for many people . If he thinks that he is getting played he will play the game & many have played & lost .
e.g - You miss an appointment , woops he forgets to sign your script . You waste his time damn sure he will make sure that you have to waste your's.
I've got used to his maverick ways and in return get treated like an adult .

His ilk will never be replaced . When he retires it will have a huge impact on the lives of many.

"Of course, use of heroin is bad for the heart..." Care to research the subject and produce some evidence, Eireann? That's how the grown ups do it, you understand. (Edit) I see you use the phrase 'over use' - if you mean overdose, I doubt Crankit or anyone else would disagree that's bad for the heart, as are the various adulterants found in street drugs..but that wasnt the point of the post. Even long term use of prescription heroin neither harms the heart nor shortens life - I look forward to your providing evidence to the contrary.

Hey just wondering if taking heroin while on an SSRI is a bad idea? And will it affect my tolerance in any way?

A few weeks into begining methadone I got a heart exam. The male doc gave me the results and pretty much said with a commiserating look on his face that the results showed that I was headed for a death due to heart failure.
It did freak me out - I'm only a young 36!! So I mentioned it to the other doc when she was on and she said the results were fine and not a thing to worry about and would send them on to a cardiologist for a second opinion if I so wished - which I did - and apparently all was well.
But the male doc is sticking to his guns, BTW this particular doc revels in giving us a histroy lesson when we see him, from the history of my second name to battles during the second world war to cult leaders in India and the US!
I'd say he's in his 70's. He seems to be a learned man but it's my life and sanity he's dealing with and I don't know if I'm comfortable with that.

Jeez Alfo is there no one you can talk to at your drug service provider?
To be getting such conflicting views and information from these two doctors can't be right and it certainly can't help matters or yourself.
I think you are gonna have to pull someone you can trust to the side and inform them of the conflicting info you are being given.

Is it bollocks. Learn about the body's pain-regulatory system a bit before you embarrass yourself further.
some people just have no idea what they are mouthing on about.
You finally said something right! Have a biscuit.

Thanks Cornishman! Can you explain why that would be the case? Medication aside, I probably need to give up the drugs anyway for the sake of my mental health.

An intensive study published by professor David Nutt (a qualified psychiatrist and neuropsychopharmacologist) recently proved that heroin is actually less harmful than drugs like alcohol.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/society/2010/nov/01/alcohol-more-harmful-than-heroin-crack

Alcohol is the most dangerous drug in the UK by a considerable margin, beating heroin and crack cocaine into second and third place, according to an authoritative study published today
