i'm downloading purchasing it as we speak!, i remember seeing it many many years ago while stoned and thinking it was hilarious but have since pushed it to the back of my mind. thanks for the reminder.

When I was little, my father was famous. He was the greatest Samurai in the empire, and he was the Shogun's decapitator. He cut off the heads of 131 lords for the Shogun. It was a bad time for the empire. The Shogun just stayed inside his castle and he never came out. People said his brain was infected by devils, and that he was rotting with evil. The Shogun said the people were not loyal. He said he had a lot of enemies, but he killed more people than that. It was a bad time. Everybody living in fear, but still we were happy. My father would come home to mother, and when he had seen her, he would forget about the killings. He wasn't scared of the Shogun, but the Shogun was scared of him. Maybe that was the problem. At night, mother would sing for us, while father would go into his temple and pray for peace. He'd pray for things to get better. Then, one night the Shogun sent his ninja spies to our house. They were supposed to kill my father, but they didn't. That was the night everything changed, forever.

such a good fucking film!

i'm getting Babycart - At The River Styx i hope its the one i'm after

Ogami Itto is dead - Lone wolf lives on, continuing his blood spattered journey through the land he calls Hell. As he remorselessly seeks the secretive shadowy Yagu clan, they continue in their efforts to destroy him, first sending their female warriors, the vicious Akashi ninja.

Beyond them, barring his way, the self proclaimed Gods of death, sadistic warriors with a lust for blood. Lone Wolf must defeat them to justify the 500 pieces of gold that have bought his sword once more.

I think you're probably just looking for shogun assasin watson's it's the american version of lone wolf and cub and babycart is one of the Japanese films that is used in it. If you're looking for one in english language it's definitely Shogun Assassin.

Definitely Shogun Assassin for the full-on, cheezy-dub, kung-fu flick experience. The Lone Wolf ones are great but nowhere near as punchy and fun as SA - it's basically the highlight scraps from the first two films with a bit of plot stringing it together. Classic <3

Well I was thinking about the more modern ones like the Van Damm . I can vaguely remember when I was younger people going on about Kickboxer and Bloodsport and these kinds of movies but i never really got round to seeing them, but maybe they are shite :\

Seconded. Like a proper martial arts film only with Jean-Claude Van Damme in it. TimeCop was about the last one that was mostly watchable but have a soft spot for Kickboxer and definitely for Blood Sport. Quite tempted to d/l them again actually - would maybe help to blot that crappy JCVD shite from my mind :!

I'm sure you were singing the praises of JCVD before or was that someone else?

If you want more modern martial arts films then Tony Jaa's films are amazing.

Ong-Bak
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0368909/
A great film, more story led than some others with some brilliant fight and chase sequences, so good that they show you twice sometimes :)

Ong-Bak 2
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0785035/
Personally, I think this is better than the first one. It has absolutely no resemblance story wise to it, but is essentially a big excuse for one awesome no holds barred revenge beat down on numerous people, some superb fight sequences and obligatory training to be a badass section.

The Protector (or Warrior King)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0427954/
Bad gangsters steal Tony Jaa's baby elephant and it's mum, ass kicking ensues. One particularly impressive shot following him from the ground floor of a tower/brothel/restaurant complex to the very top smashing heads and kneeing people in the face all the way up, excellent.

As mentioned above old school films are good too, though I just watched
Legend of the Drunken Master
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0111512/
The 1994 remake with Jackie Chan and has some brilliant fight scenes and some spectacular stunts, the 20 minute showdown at the end of the film is superb and look out for the nasty stunt Jackie pulls over some red hot coals - complete with out-take over the credits that shows how hot it was.

Kung Fu Hustle
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0373074/
This is more comedic that the others, but has some great special effects and I expect anyone who enjoys the above will like it. Noteworthy scene and a personal favourite is when the 3 masters fight the 2 chaps with the string instrument that makes a weapon out of sound and air, brilliant stuff :)

Hope some of those recommendations fit the bill for excellent martial arts films

awesome film!

JCVD? Really? Bored the crap outta me, to be honest. Kinda liked the "Van Damme is a real man with thoughts and feelings and other real life stuff to worry about between doing the splits and kicking folk about a bit" conceit but the actual film was dull as lukewarm dishwater for me.

i liked that JCVD. Thought it was a good movie. Until I saw that I wasnt aware that he could actually act. Perhaps I'm just another mong who eats up that main stream cinema. I thought it was a great film, and, I'm not ashamed to admit, I found it a bit moving at times.

I'd give it two thumbs up. :p
