The thread in PD today reminded me that Tim Burton's 3D Alice in Wonderland and Terry Gilliam's The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus are both out soon. Both look pretty darn sexy.

Also, Bad Lieutenant remake on the way. Even with Nicholas Cage it's gotta be worth a look. Surely Herzog couldn't fuck up Bad Lieutenant even with that plank in it.

it's out and it's shit :(

i wanna see that what ever works just watched season 6 of curb so amazing.
avatar shite what can one expect from director of titanic?

Would that Nic Cage film be considered as shite if it wasn't called Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans but rather just Port of Call New Orleans? I think the "remake" thing automatically has you thinking PISH.

It's been ages since I've seen Bad Lieutenant so I can't remember how similar it is but I watched the new one the other night & actually quite enjoyed it. It is fucking strange though, the acting is really weird, like it seems as though they are all incredibly shit at acting but it seems kind of deliberate, I dunno - it's hard to explain, it's just I have seen a lot of the cast in other films acting properly, it's like they are supposed to be sort of wooden & weird. Like I said, hard to describe. The weird imagery with the reptiles is fucked up as well, seems far too forced & too "check out this weird arty shot of a lizard, this has got some hidden meaning LOOK AT IT LOOK AT IT it means some shit that you can't understand" makes me think the director is a bit of a wank. The ending was %) even though I could see it coming.

Overall I'd recommend watching it although it's hard for me to tell if it's actually quite a clever good film or if it's a complete & utter pile of wank. Either way it was enjoyable.

watched Into the Wild earlier, the story of Christopher McCandless, a moving true story about a man who severed all contact with society and lived alone as a wanderer, eventually taking on and being defeated by the wilds of Alaska.. really good film i thought, even if some bits were dramatized, the whole thing was very well done despite it perhaps not being quite what Christopher himself experienced.. very sad story but I highly recommend the film!

Gobs of Goo if on crystal or crack.
Otherwise, More (1969) - a tale of heroin addiction on Ibiza which is never mentioned when the regular "drug movies" come up. Directed by Barbet Schroeder who cameod in the pharmy-heavy emotional rail/road movie Darjeeling Limited. Get a non-British version via the internet if you don't appreciate the detailed injection scene being censored (thanks BBFC.)

That was an awesome and oh so surrreal movie. Defo a top ten.

Saw "Memories of Matsuko" the other day on Film 4. Really, really excellent flick :) God, I'm far too into Japanese cinema =D

Written and Directed by Tetsuya Nakashima - the same guy who Directed "Kamikaze Girls" (another great film from the land of the rising sun). Unfortunately I've only seen these two films that Nakashima has been part of and would love to see the others. Anyway, a synopsis of Memories of Matsuko:
Shou's father Norio finds his son in a rather meaningless existence in Tokyo dominated by alcohol and porn videos. Having left home two years earlier to pursue life as a musician, Shou has left his band and his girlfriend has left him. His father asks a favor, that Shou clean out the apartment of his aunt Matsuko, who he says led a meaningless life until her murder at the age of 53. The apartment is filled with garbage bags and is even more unkempt than his apartment has become, and he becomes intrigued with his aunt as details of her life are supplied by a tattooed neighbor and others. Her feelings of neglect by her father Tsunehiro, who favored her chronically ill younger sister, Kumi, translated into becoming a dutiful junior high school teacher devoted to her students until being forced to resign after being blamed for the theft of some money by one of them. Leaving her family due to the disgrace, she had a series of affairs with lovers who physically abused her and did a stint as a massage parlor girl due to her beauty. After her pimp lover dumped her and gave her share of earnings to his new lover, they argued and after killing him she left by train and contemplated suicide. Dissuaded by a lonely barber, she happily set out to build a quiet life with him until the police came to charge her with murder. Upon her release from prison she silently slipped away after finding that the barber had started a new family. Becoming a "Yakusa Girl" she rationalized that it was better to be on the run with a mobster than be alone. However, her mobster lover rejected her after being released from a term in prison and she became an eccentric recluse. Shou concludes that his aunt fulfilled his ex-girlfriend's parting comment about it being better to give to others rather than expecting to receive.

Definitely recommended ;)

Have your life destroyed before your eyes with the best Polish thing ever:
Decalogueboxcover.jpg

I would discuss this in much greater length as it is better than everything else in this thread including what I've recommended. BUt I reckon its nots the day for Polish grimness.
Unless you are Polish and you life is Grim as fuck!

Yes but you really want to watch all 10 episodes of decalogue, with Love and Killing in them in there full length versions...than watch comedy!

I've recently been thinking about films that changed my life the most aka the darkest, grimmest evil.

I will start with the biggest life changing thing that has ever happened to me...any cunt says this films is bad deserves genital mutilation....something which happens quite often in my kind of films for some reason.(not this one.....although its grimmer than a motherfucker nevertheless)

As I say, it changed my life more than any music, film, pie, tv show etc! It is not the best thing ever made, but it showed me what was capable in the cinematic world of bullshit.

I didn't have a clue about this, but they're making (well, it's in post-production) a film of Mr. Nice :)
Should be very good or atleast I hope so. Would be a great shame if it was a complete cock up. I found out about it by looking at what films Omid Djalili had done and he's in this ^_^ I like him muchly.

It should be released late Feb / early March (it's down for the 26th of Feb presently).

love that movie =D

been watchin a lot of 80's slashers recently, on this site, last night watched The Burning, funny film

The Burning is a 1981 slasher film directed by Tony Maylam, with music by Rick Wakeman. It tells the story of a cruel, alcoholic caretaker at a summer camp (nicknamed Cropsy, after the huge garden shears he carries) who falls victim to a prank that went out of control and leaves him horribly burned and disfigured. Following his release from hospital, he returns to his old stomping ground and begins a murder spree.
