Recommend another good movie per post

^A lot of Nirvana fans hated it. I think they were getting confused between fact and fiction. I liked it a lot too, but I can see how some could get bored with it. Michael Pitt is one of my favourite actors, and Van Sant one of my favourite directors. They both did a great job. Plus, that ending was eerie. It was almost as if that famous picture had come to life.

It must have been hard for Kim Gordan to do those scenes as well. I always got the feeling that all her dialogue is what she would have like to have said to him before he killed himself. :(

Thats exactly what I thought, it was a great scene.

Over all I enjoyed the film, it was interesting just watching the character and kinda being with him. I can see how some people hated it however, it took me a while to get in to it.

Yeah, considering most of his last days are based on speculation I can see why Nirvana fans didn't like it/expected it to be better. (There's always About A Son for them :D)

I just went in with an open mind, and appreciated it for what it was. As for Kim, yeah it must've been pretty weird considering she knew him fairly well :|

Good film though, I also recommend About A Son :)

I liked About A Son too. I couldn't get into it at first, but the soundtrack and the various shots around Aberdeen really worked well with his recorded messages. I cried at the end when (I think) Michael Azerrad said goodbye to him. :(

I thought it'd be really annoying to follow with the images / recorded messages, but I got into it from the get go iirc.

I'm sure you've read Come As You Are by Azerrad, so it was nice to be able to see the actual places they're talking about on film, and to hear it in Kurt's own words.

I also remember liking the soundtrack...I should hunt that down.

As with all tragic stories, when I heard Do Re Mi off the boxset I was left saddened by the fact that he still had some great songs in him, and always wonder what would've happened if he'd pulled through stardom/heroin addiction.

Then again you get people saying he was bound to kill himself eventually, nothing would've stopped him, who knows. Not I.

Yeah, I've read Come As You Are. Can't say I got into as well as I'd hoped. I didn't like Azerrad's style. Charles R Cross did a better job imo, but I still don't think he's a great author either tbh.

Do Re Mi is a good song btw. It's one of those which creeps into your head long after hearing it. Rather surprisingly. Because on first hearing it doesn't seem like anything special. You can definitely hear the Leadbelly influence in there.

Charles Cross just comes across as being really self-indulgent/arrogant/acting like he's the rock star, whereas Azerrad just has this geeky love for alternativeness and ends up being a kiss ass/taking Kurt's stories as fact.

I may be babbling though (I'm high).

One thing I do know is that Do Re Mi was one of the highlights off the boxset for me, its such a melodic song, haunting, beautiful, and proof that he was still capable (despite his voice falling apart) of writing good songs. Ah well.

Cant wait to see " The Informers" Very underated book IMHO. The terrible reviews will not deter me !!

Seems to have a solid cast with Billy Bob, Mickey Rourke,Kim Basinger,Winona Ryder,Chris Iasaak and Brad Renfro.

Yeah, I'm keen to see that as well.

Anyone seen Gran Torino yet?

Yeah, Spade saw it and loved it. So I guess that means you should probably avoid it. ;)

Ummm nooo. TheSpade thought it was midly entertaining because it was so bad. The plot is paper thin, the acting is beyond dire, the only thing which saves it is it's hilarious and I'm not even sure it's supposed to be funny. The whole cinema was in stitches throughout at all the totally racist and stupid things Clint's character constantly blurted out. I certainly wouldn't watch it twice but it was funny if nothing else.

Has anyone seen that dire pile of shite Green Street, if that wasn't bad enough there's a sequel out now on DVD. The leaders of the firm are all arrested and imprisoned, they have scraps with the rival firms then the prison guards decide to let them have a match against each other with the winning team getting their freedom.

Sounds like the worst premise for a film ever! :D

I tried to watch it because it looked like it might be so bad it was funny but I couldn't get more than 5 mins in. It's set in London but filmed in America and looks very American, apparantley us Brits just love to drink giant barrel shaped cans of Heineken and have to wear orange jumpsuits in our American looking prisons. Everything about this movie seemed to be done badly, I skipped forward to watch some random bits and the ending and it didnt get any better.

That's the first negative "review" i've seen.

It's totally watchable and fairly entertaining but it is bad. There's nothing particularly well done about this film and I know I shouldn't like it, I almost don't want to because the plot and acting is so bad but I enjoyed it. Weird one like. :\

Some really silly funny films that always crack me up are the ernest series.

I have seen these ones:

Ernest Goes to Camp
Ernest Saves Christmas
Ernest Goes To School
Slam Dunk Ernest
Ernest In The Army

But not these yet, didnt even know these ones existed, i will have to DL them.

Ernest Rides Again
Ernest Scared Stupid
Ernest Goes to Africa
Ernest Goes To Jail
Dr. Otto and the Riddle of the Gloom Beam

They are totally stupid with pretty bad acting but hilarious and easy watching, perfect for hangovers and comedowns
