well tuition fee cuts will have got alot of pissed off kids wanting to fuck shit up so that will add to the numbers, just heard the mob is well into the hundreds now, police doing FUCK ALL, now that the police are distracted im expecting a fucking terrorist attack, wouldnt it just be typical..
 
I've just remembered why I hate Salvia.
Thank fuck it only lasts a couple of minutes.
Rolling a cig while your whole universe has a sort of triangular vacuum hitting you to the floor each time while the TV "could or could not be" commentating on your efforts... No fun.
 
I thought it was against police brutality. In which case it really isn't helping their cause or support. I missed the start of it which is why i haven't commented in the other thread really. Just caught a couple bits of it on the news. It's just utter chaos from what i can make out :\

I usually back the protestors on most things, but i can't see how this is going to benefit or help anyone.
 
Perhaps in protest against police brutality in so far as people in california need medical marijuana for writers block.
As far as police brutality is concerned, its a worthwhile cause to protest about, but the circumstances at the moment are pretty fucking unclear.

Why these people chose not to riot when Ian Tomlinson was murdered I do not know.
 
The little fuckers , not just content with looting , now there setting everything on fire.
The old bill are all sitting back in the name of health and safety !

I'm workin in Graham rd (hackney) and it's all taped off considered a crime scene, so can't go to fucking work in the morn.

Indeed, I think it's got a lot to do with the fact that the guy that got shot was part of the 'Mandem crew' or whatever silly name it is and that first outbreak of violence from his 'fam' has made other people realise they can rob and burn shit with seemingly pretty small police response.
I can just see larger police powers being given and then applied to future peaceful protests for legitimate causes. :\
 
bring the fucking army in, i doubt they would be so brave if they had squads of rifles with live ammo pointed at them would they?
 
its looking that way isnt it, the cash and carry across from where i work are all crapping themselves as the tills are right at the front of the shop :\
 
If the locals get their weapons out it could be! But I doubt that as they probably don't have the balls! Our army is used to fighting in afganistan so London would be no prob!

Well I'm trying really hard to do some work but it's not happening due to constantly monitoring Twitter or getting up and looking down the road to see if hordes of kids are descending on the fruit and veg shops. Which they're not.
 
This is quite odd in comparison to Northern Ireland. Every year there are riots here, but almost immediately the police move in with rubber bullets and water cannons - is that not happening over there? I'm pretty sure the 'youths' looting everywhere would think twice if there was a risk of the above. It's just going to cost more money to fix...

Erm... this is a democracy. No democracy turns its military against its civilians. Apart from the US.

Iranians are utterly bemused at the suggestion that the rioters should be confronted with increased force - yes, Iranians. That's the view from somewhere where society isn't quite as stratified and they haven't quite lost their grip on the responsibility of the state towards the individual.

Shame about the ayatollahs and their barminess, but even that's more sane than people baying for the blood of kids just because they're smashing up a few chain stores.

The cops in england are soft as fuck, they are too scared of being accused of police brutality these days (when they are on camera and in public, its different when they have you in the van)

to be honest, i had just watched that vid of the kid being helped yet robbed at the time and was feeling quite pissed off, ill admit i will withdraw that comment as i wouldnt want to live in a society like that..and it wasnt over the smashing of stores, it was over the unnecessary violence that is coming along with it,das ist alle
 
SpecialK: they've talked about using water cannons and/or plastic bullets over here. Some interesting comments on the Guardian blog, here, that reference Northern Ireland. Comments from the Chief Constable of Northern Ireland that it would be a bad idea; mention of the idea that it looks a bit like one rule for Ireland (rubber bullets) and one for the rest of the country.

Sam: remember the British army was in Northern Ireland for 25 years.
