I really like psy style electro if it's done well, which Ultrapop 2 does!

sold! a lot of the prog psy stuff i'm drawn to for indoor sets has a bit of an electro feel (slightly more clubby and less... foresty? deserty?), so i'm probably going to love this. i'm listening to the compilation right now and so far i'm all about it. by the way, for the person earlier who was unsure: it's on fabula records.

i see whoring it up on beatport for these tunes in my near future %)

i kind of recognised one of the clips last monday (patriots/bengals) but couldn't put my finger on it exactly...

damn. i was watching this game, but it was in an irish pub in canada so there was no sound. i'm going to pay attention this weekend/monday to see if i notice this injection of psy into my nfl enjoyment. it can't be any worse than the butt-rock normally reserved for american sporting events.

^I love most prog. Just depends what mood I'm in. If im outdoors at a festival I would prefer the spacey/foresty deep trippy prog. If I'm indoors I prefer the more electro influenced stuff.

spacey/foresty deep trippy prog all the way for me. I really cant handle psy club nights, too hot or too something i dont like. I do love Ticon and other electroish groups though, hust needs be outdoors.

come on people %) its all about the transcendental goa cosmic layered mind warpers like Dimension 5. mmm goa

transcendental goa cosmic layered mind warpers

That'd be either a good song name or name of a psy act TGCLMW. Actually, no. I'm just waiting for someone to completely shatter this psytrance rut that the scenes in where every bassline sounds the same, every sample sounds the same, every every sounds the sound.... the only good stuff really seem to be the artists the know the psy formula, then kinda throw it out :)

psy has mostly gone to hell, but the goa classics age like red wine %)

however I got Guinea Pigs - Not Tested on Animals cd and i think this is some good psy trance. Hard, fast, bouncy.

Can anybody put me in the right direction for stuff that sounds like:

The Egg - Angel of My Soul (Allaby Mix)
http://mp3.juno.co.uk/MP3/SF1239057-02-01-01.mp3

Allaby - Imaginarium
http://www.trackitdown.net/genre/psy_trance/track/157445.html

It sort of sounds like somewhere inbetween the progressive psy stuff and full on, usually about 139 BPM, more driving basslines than the proggy stuff, more in the line of a slower full on bassline but with subtle melodies and proggy sounds than the Full On stuff.

I've been looking on beatport/trackitdown but the majority of the stuff is either Atmos style Prog or darker and faster psy trance & protoculture style stuff.

Quite a few DJs were playing it through the day at the Origin Stage at Glade, I think Djane Gaby was playing this sort of stuff.

Examples from Glade.

Anybody reccomend any producers/tracks in a similiar vein?

Thanks x

I went through a 9 month or so, Psy Trance Phaze during the earlier years of my 16 years as a "Raver" I was unsure at first compared with my usual Techno. then got the vibe with the help of mushies, bits of acid and poppers. I find, As Different as some style of psy are to other totally different styles of Psy, I still find myself bound by the obvious boundries of the Psy Trance Format.
Dont get me wrong, I can get away with bits of it now and again, but in the cold light of day, I find it empty and boring. and it drones on too long sometimes. Even the hard dark good sounding at first stuff.
I have been into hardcore, techno, psy trance, back to techno, into proper indusrial hardcore through the gabba for a lot of years and even into realms of certain speedcore bits, Only to find myself at repeated Dead Ends in my search for cheap thrills from the music.
Now at the age of 34, I have outgrown my Gabba and have found my buzz lingering with a small "scene" of mainly european hard techno artists. Although the best music will always be a handfull of Gabba Artists, (about 5 or so) who never fail to saturate my brain receptors of Belta Sound enjoyment intake, whenever I play them.
If anyone would like any pointers to what I would say is good techno or fancy some really hard music for the mind, (which you wont have heard unless you are in the know) Dont hesitate to mail me

Tranced, you may enjoy Protonica, they have a nice blend of proggy and psy.

At the moment its suomi all round http://www.antiscarp.com/

That is exactly the kind of sound I was after thanks.

So far my search has returned peoples reccomendations of random prog/full on. This is what I meant though.

Anyone reccomend any others? Really hoping there is an abundance of this sort of stuff and wouldn't mind a few more producers.

Thanks x

I personally am really enjoying the suomi sounds of u.d.d, Toletrancer and Darth Phadar, so good to hear diversity in psychedelic music. I just don't get why everyone bags the production, it can be very messy, but it sounds good??? It did take me a while to understand suomi or get past my personal hangups about sound; now I see it as way more dynamic and vibrant then the sterile sounds of "full-on" psy. My new productions are going to defintely incorporate that flavour.
