A lot of the dark stuff from a few years back is awesome... I really loved Acid Mutants, the Orebro Freakfactory compilations, In Crypto... these days the dark stuff is just a lot of noise...

As far as Penta goes I love "Looking Great" :)

Another dark one that springs to mind is Para Halu - Sirens Friction... I always picture that as dark squelchy swampy psy :)
 
ya a lot of dark now is bleh. noise bass :o the dark psy i liked was v.a.-forest, v.a-luminaria, mechanik castle

Right now I'm pretty much just listening to Dimension 5 and Digital Sun. mmm goa
 
Antix's new album is very good, but Vibrasphere's Exploring The Tributaries is exceptional, & just refuses to leave my stereo.

The production on it is just out of this fucking world. Listen to the slow-burning glory of Erosion in its entirety & weep at what a lush soundscape they've managed to craft. How do they do it? I dream of being able to produce with one thousandth of the skill of these guys, & as if to further confirm their brilliance the last 4 tracks are more chillout/downtempo and sound as if they've been plucked from the wings of celestial beings.

Put simply, if you're a fan of progressive music then you need to get this album.

I totally agree there, Vibrasphere's latest is amazing!!
 
^^^I didn't mind their old style to be honest....they do a wicked remix on Twincoast remixes.

Anyhow, I've just been playing Vibrasphere over and over, fantastic CD.
 
^Don't get me wrong, I love their old stuff too. I just mean they've tried to do something different and the subsequent efforts are amazing. Well worth a listen.

Vibrasphere's latest is gold, I agree.
 
lately i've been listening to Concept, and going back to Sensient. wicked stuff.

also very excited about a forthcoming psychedelic DVD from an aussie label, featuring Blanka, Gappeq, yours truly and a bunch of others... going to be a bespoke visual / audio mix. should be out in a few months.
 
i havent listened to psy/goa in years... Im checking out the new hypersonic right now and man has the genre come a long way! Im loving it... so diverse.
 
I think Drew/SCS is on Iboga now, perhaps its Wombat thats on UP. His debut album is via Iboga. Dreamweaver are cool as, and incidentally Suncontrolspecies, besides having the best psy moniker out, plays the best deep trance sets, perfect for sunrise in the bush. Possibly my favorite live progressive act.
 
ah i see. i seemed to remember you really liked SCS :)

actually the DVD is an UP / Sundance records project... Sundance seem really cool, home to Talpa, ITP and Nystagmus, all of whose stuff i dig.

there's a prog compilation out on Liquid soon which will be nice... compiled by Morph.
 
I just got back from a show with Shpongle/Hallucinogen.... and HOLY SHIT. The new albums coming out this year or next, whenever it is are going to be -must haves-... I know a show is not an album or anything, but a lot of the music played was new material that I assume at least some of which will be on CDs.

Seriously, the new hallucinogen stuff is setting a new standard as far as what I've heard both recorded and live (which is a lot). I have never seen a nugget/dmt vapor soaked crowd react like that before... so much energy... and the cleanest, crispest, most layered and deep, throbbing, wailing live set I've ever witnessed.
 
^^^Oooh sounds nice. I've heard a bit of newish hallucinogen which is as you say clean crisp and throbbing. Was it the full Shpongle band? I hope its better then Nothing Lasts, I did like parts of the album but generally its Are You Shpongled for me.....DMT is one of the greatest songs of all time.
 
I could be wrong, but AFAIK they haven't done a full live shpongle gig with the whole crew (what is it, like 8 people or so? and I think raja ram has some beef with being in the US or something?).

This was just Posford. The Shpongle part was a DJ set, that got progressively faster over the whole mix, then just busted right into a live hallucinogen set, rocking knobs on the monster mixing board and everything
