First time ever. I was always for labour until i saw an interview with Latham, he's a pretty bad liar.

Why did i vote liberal? I'm cool with the way things are at the moment. Sure theres lots of room for improvement, though we can't get everything "we" want cos theres no pleasing everybody.

Voted Green meself, but I'm in an electorate where the national party collects votes way too easily. I didn't vote in the last election because I suffering from a huge comedown that grounded me all day, but sadly I feel it was barely even worth the effort and I might as well skipped it as well. Not happy.

In hidsight, Labour lost the election the instant Latham announced the tropps home by christmas. It showed Latham as being someone who was impulsive. Labour could have won this if Latham had a cool head, but sadly it takes a lot to vote Lib/Nats whilst the economy is holding up well.

What a tragedy for Australia

By electing John Howard again, the message has been sent to the international community that Australia;

1) supports violation of international law against better judgement and the wishes of the UN
2) doesn't care that we've helped made life much worse in Iraq, particularly with regard to destruction of infrastructure and civillian casualties
3) supports those who systematically and maliciously abuse and torture Muslims, as well as people they claim to be "liberating"
4) is content to refuse entry to asylum seekers, and incarcerate them.

That is our international image now, especially being a democracy and given the choice to get rid of Howard. There is no argument about the fact today will have serious repercussions for our national security.

I'm glad I'm not a citizen of this country, and after today I can safely say I'll never consider it.

Thus ends any "give a shit factor" I had for politics.

They're not saying it's an absolute majority, they're saying they'll have 38 seats (ie: half). You need 39 votes to pass a motion in the senate, so they can't get anything through, but shouldn't have too much trouble finding an independant (or god help us a family first senator) to vote with them.

That said though, the counting is far from over and the results of the senate won't be known for a lot longer. I think it's a real shame that the democrats have pretty much been blown away, because they were a good balance.

He has pretended to care about the economy when any economics student knows that it was his policies as treasurer which lead us down the path to "the recession we had to have".
