^ You're a pretty opinionated person though, anna! This board is obviously rather anti Howard so it would take guts to say 'ohhh I love little Johnny. He's such a champ.'
I voted Johnny. I guess most of Australia did so too.

It is a shame it wasnt a closer election.
You cant really bitch about John Howard for a few years seeing as the majority of Australian seem to think he is great or better than the other guy.

The Senate race is the next big thing.

i voted Liberal...

First time ever. I was always for labour until i saw an interview with Latham, he's a pretty bad liar.

Why did i vote liberal? I'm cool with the way things are at the moment. Sure theres lots of room for improvement, though we can't get everything "we" want cos theres no pleasing everybody.

Voted Green meself, but I'm in an electorate where the national party collects votes way too easily. I didn't vote in the last election because I suffering from a huge comedown that grounded me all day, but sadly I feel it was barely even worth the effort and I might as well skipped it as well. Not happy. :(

In hidsight, Labour lost the election the instant Latham announced the tropps home by christmas. It showed Latham as being someone who was impulsive. Labour could have won this if Latham had a cool head, but sadly it takes a lot to vote Lib/Nats whilst the economy is holding up well.

Channel 9 is saying the Coalition is heading for an absolute majority. This hasn't happened in 20+ years and means they can get anything through.

Hooray for democratically elected dictators! :X

Well at least I can say I voted, unlike certain other people who are spewing even more than me. I'm not that fussed really, this country could be doing a lot worse.

What a tragedy for Australia :(

By electing John Howard again, the message has been sent to the international community that Australia;

1) supports violation of international law against better judgement and the wishes of the UN
2) doesn't care that we've helped made life much worse in Iraq, particularly with regard to destruction of infrastructure and civillian casualties
3) supports those who systematically and maliciously abuse and torture Muslims, as well as people they claim to be "liberating"
4) is content to refuse entry to asylum seekers, and incarcerate them.

That is our international image now, especially being a democracy and given the choice to get rid of Howard. There is no argument about the fact today will have serious repercussions for our national security.

I'm glad I'm not a citizen of this country, and after today I can safely say I'll never consider it.

Thus ends any "give a shit factor" I had for politics.

There's quite a few liberal parties in my street by the sounds of things....people yelling and cheering and cars honking horns. This is truly a great time for Australia :)

I extend a James Boags to my fellow Aussies :)

all politicians are liars, it's just that Latham came across as more "Australian" than I've ever believed Howard to be.

I don't think Latham would be sucking up Bush and Blairs arse like Howard has done in the past.

They're not saying it's an absolute majority, they're saying they'll have 38 seats (ie: half). You need 39 votes to pass a motion in the senate, so they can't get anything through, but shouldn't have too much trouble finding an independant (or god help us a family first senator) to vote with them.

That said though, the counting is far from over and the results of the senate won't be known for a lot longer. I think it's a real shame that the democrats have pretty much been blown away, because they were a good balance.

I dont have anything constructive to add. I simply wish to say....

Fucking Hell!!! Is everybody in this god damn patch of dirt absolutley insane? How the fuck could anyone possibly think Howard is anything but the most evil human to ever grace the hallowed halls of our god forsaken house of reps. Dont you all understand? 70% of you earn below 70,000 a year. That means that under Howard you get FUCKED! No ifs No buts! He has lied about the most sacred of issues! He has pretended to care about the economy when any economics student knows that it was his policies as treasurer which lead us down the path to "the recession we had to have". He is the most revolting little worm it has ever been my distinct pleasure to wish horrific death apon!!! CANT ANYONE REMEMBER THAT THE WHOLE IRAQ WAR WAS BASED ON A LIE!! THOUSANDS APON THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE DIED FOR A GOD DAMN LIE!!!!!! AAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sorry about that I just needed to get it off my chest.

If in three years time the coalition get in again I'll be selling up my house (which I will have paid off), my car and leave Australia for good. I loved Europe too much to not live there forever. At least over there, most countries have some sort of grip on morality!

I'm trying to get cash together now and move there, I've just been there for one month and it's fantastic.

they are so far advanced in terms of anything....
