Since zicam cough spray is expensive, and you might not want to spend that much money- the best source in my opinion is a generic version of robitussin adult formulas, they used to be called "max strength," but now its either just called "long lasting" -even though its just dextromethorphan hbr, opposed to dextromethorphan polistirex- which is basically a time released version.
look on the back, make sure the only listed active ingredient is Dextromethorphan HBR, and it will almost always say 15mg as the dosage per 5ml.
This would be the same with the gel caps, except in 15mg per capsule count.

Gel caps can take longer to kick in, the syrups generally kick in 45 minutes to an hour. I don't have much experience with the gel caps, but it seems like an hour to an hour and half, also it can depend on if you've eaten anything beforehand and how fast your metabolism is.

Robitussin Cough Gels (20 gel tabs 15mg each) 300mg - Like i said it wont kick in as fast, lasts a little longer because the gel caps have to dissolve, 4-6 hours.
Robitussin Adult Cough Liquid ("Long acting") - 354mg for 4oz. - This would be the best choice imo, if you can stand the taste (holding your nose works well, not many people actually try this, but it really does help.) 4-6 hours.
Others:
Delsym 3oz - 534mg Dxm Polistirex - 6-8 hours (in my experience)
Since its time released you'd usually have to drink two or more, since it doesn't all dissolve at once, you might not even get past the 1st plateau on one.
Robitussin DM - 236mg 4oz (calculated it myself haha) and a bunch of guaifenesin (400mg per 5ml?) -
not really worth it, but you can find generic brands of DM syrups for really cheap if your desperate. i've never had and nausea from guaifenesin, but i've heard of it happening.
And just don't do coricidin (480mg dxm, and a buncha CPM), its retarded.
Since your starting out instead of 4-6 hours it could go up to 8 hours.

No, its a dissociative; so its nothing like shrooms. Ketamine/Pcp like trips.

is it safe to mix valium and vicodin with it? would it intensify it or would doing that be dangerous?

I'll post the dosages cause i have nothing better to do,
Light - 100-200mg - basically the 1st plateau
Common - 200-400mg - near 400mg is the 2nd
Strong - 300-600mg - around the 3rd
Heavy - 600-1,500mg - 4th and above is sigma
About a hour after you take it, you should get that coming-up rush.
Sometimes the come up can last up to an hour (or at least feel like it) until you peak.
