PHISH: Official summer tour thread

so, how was alpine? first night looked stupid good. last night looked like they had a good thing going until farmhouse, then things cooled off for the second half of the second set.

the second night of deer creek seems to be the best show of the deer creek>alpine run. on paper, of course. i haven't listened to them.

^ lol nice

i understand great music makes the body move involuntarily in odd ways

but if you are a man and you twirl/spin or dance with your hands raised above your head you are a fucking loser

I beg to differ, you are not a loser if u want to dance and be wild and goofy, thats what going to a Phish concert is all about

ChickenScratch... I ended up being too impatient to wait for the weekend and hit up DC1. Great show. Then I went to both Alpine's and also had a great time. I've found my new favorite thing in the world. I love this band.

AV1 was incredible... pretty solid throughout. AV2 was straight FIRE Crosseyed & Painless>No Quarter>Light>Ghost>BOTT... then we got farmhouse'd. Picked back up though with a rockin' 46 days, then kinda fell off. For me it was awesome being only my third show, but there were a few people complaining about the end of the set. I have decided to hit up St. Louis next month as well. Will be seeing Furthur at Northerly Island Tuesday in Chicago, as well.

What are your plans for second leg?

I've found my new favorite thing in the world. I love this band.

ya know, this typically happens with any n00b i've ever taken to a phish show, even the nay sayers. glad you had fun.

i was hoping to catch both birmingham and atlanta, but will probably just be hitting up atlanta.

I'm a nay sayer. Perhaps it's one of those bands you need to see live in order to "get".

for the most part, i'd say, yes. it's hard to grab a newb with big jams, especially with a band like phish. bands like the allman brothers, widespread panic and even the dead, seem to have more structure. phish are technical masters. they're the math rockers of the jam band scene. they're incredibly good at what they do, which may not be your cup of tea, but all of the small nuances, that may not translate well over your living room speakers, really come out in the live performance. once you see it for yourself, it's easier to listen to on your home stereo.

not to mention, the 5th member, chris kuroda, puts on one hell of a light show. he's hands down the best in the business.

they're also good performers, and often take a break from the serious jams to do stupid goofy shit that sounds horrible on tape, but is pretty fucking entertaining live.

all that aside....it's just a damn good time. it's a fucking travelling circus of freaks, geeks, hippies, old folks, young folks, doctors, lawyers, strippers and house wives. sober? no problem. they have a group called the phellowship that has a booth at every show and has meetings at setbreak in case you're feeling tempted. you'll never go to a show like a phish show. they're one of a kind.

i catch a lot of shit for being 33 years old and still seeing "that fucking band"....but this mainly comes from people that have never been. hell, after around 75 phish shows, i've yet to see the same show, and i'm still chasing a number of songs that i've never seen live. my suggestion, if you like good times, go. hell, even if you don't like good times, but want to see something that's truely one of a kind, go. it still might not be your thing, but it's worth a shot.

oh....and i'd just like to take this opportunity to be the crotchety old jaded fan that i am.

it was a lot better back in the day mmmaaaaaaaaannnnnnn.

but it's still fun as fuck.

sounds like a recycled description of some dead head circa 1967

i ran into an awesome head couple i've been friends with a long time the other day and they are making me goto the next phish show they go to just cause like, they think phish is totally the best thing out there right now or something

i still say hooookaaahhhhhhhhhh

5 post melt.

i'm assuming bobby and phil will come out at some point this weekend for some dead tunes.

gordon played with phil at terrapin crossroads last night. gonna be an epic weekend.

i love talking to myself in this thread. i'm melting my tits off.

lakewood on saturday is going to be pure fire. haven't seen phish there since 2000. it's gonna be like the late 90's all over again. back when i wasn't a wasn't an awful washed up bitter old man.

i'm so fucking fired up. they played a punk ass fluffy vagina show last night.
oak mtn is being webcast so that means they'll play a custy ass greatest hits show.
what i'm getting at...is....what i'm trying to say here is....they're going to mind fuck our brains and skull fuck our faces in atlanta on saturday. show just sold out. that's like 18,000 fucking people. they are going to rip into our brains through buttfucking our assholes with some twisted psychotic insanity. no light in atlanta. all dark. they're going to scare me so hard that a vomit on on my shoes and plug drugs in my dickhole.

my favorite mexican friend is coming over tonight and we're gonna purchase the live stream of the birmingham show and watch it on the porch, get drunk and shove glow sticks up our buttholes.

SOH...i'll get back with you, but you should probably start with 12.7.97 from Dayton, OH.

as for the atlanta show on saturday....show was good, not great, but solid. seems like oak mtn and charlotte were better though.

i thought the first set was insanely good. second set was a bit disjointed, but perfectly executed. i had a blast. got rowdy, barefoot, spilled beer all over myself, broke my sunglasses and owned the dance floor.

i came really close to going to charlotte, but decided to be a grown up instead.
