I'm a nay sayer. Perhaps it's one of those bands you need to see live in order to "get".

oh, and regarding this. i took a buddy of mine to the show that i've known for 20 years. he's a drummer, but always ragged on phish. he was absolutely blown away by the show. kept telling me that it was the most professional show he's ever seen. it really is something you need to see first hand to really "get". these guys are good at what they do, and as goofy as they are, they take this shit serious when they're on stage.

nice, glad you liked it. if you like the funk, all of their stuff from fall of 97 is really funky.

there's really a few era's of phish, not including the 80's. but early 90's to mid 90's is more straight forward and rocking, then you got the later 90's really funky shows, and then they started morphing into more ambient space stuff. obviously, i like it all, but i'm partial fall 97 funk.

i've highlighted the other really funky portions from that dayton show below, the tube>tube jam is sick:

Sunday, 12/07/1997
Ervin J. Nutter Center, Wright State University, Dayton, OH
Set 1: AC/DC Bag -> Psycho Killer[1] -> Jesus Just Left Chicago[2], My Mind's Got a Mind of its Own > It's Ice -> Swept Away > Steep > It's Ice > Theme From the Bottom, Tube, Tube Jam -> Slave to the Traffic Light
Set 2: Timber (Jerry) > Wolfman's Brother -> Boogie On Reggae Woman > Reba[3], Guyute > Possum[4]
Encore: A Day in the Life

man, I'm digging 12.7.97. Their version of psycho killer is funky as fuck. :D

if you like 12/7/97 check out the night before... i've always thought it's a way better show (not that 12/7 isn't fantastic). and they're about to release it on tuesday. 12/2/97 is probably my other favorite fall 97 show

second night of spectrum is fire as well, i just love the monster mike's groove with slowed down funked out weekapaug on the first night

haven't listened to those shows in quite a while so maybe i will this week... after enjoying the 12/6 tweezer in SBD quality :D

All 3 nights of UIC looked absolutely filthy.

Would love to hear your thoughts, Finder.

or anyone else that was there.....

It was. Just awesome shows overall. I would have liked narration in Forbin's but at least I got it at Super Ball. Night one was easily the strongest, but I also really like night two, set two.

I'll be hitting up the northerly island shows for sure.

so, how was alpine? first night looked stupid good. last night looked like they had a good thing going until farmhouse, then things cooled off for the second half of the second set.

the second night of deer creek seems to be the best show of the deer creek>alpine run. on paper, of course. i haven't listened to them.

Pretty sure I preferred night one of Creek even though it was so unbelievably hot. By far the most insane heat I've dealt with at a concert. I remember driving down I-65 to the venue that Friday and the thermometer in my car said 107 at one point. This was at like 80 MPH too. Ugh. I also remember thinking, man it'd be cool if they played "Cool It Down" tonight and then they fucking did. So weird.

Sat in the best seats I've ever had there on Fish's side first night. Great first set and, I thought, a really good second set. First night of Alpine was definitely better than the second imo tbh. Second night was fine, but I am sick of no Ghost jams. I also think it's quite strange I've managed to see 3 out of 4 No Quarters.

I've been digging on the Round Room and Undermind tracks they've been playing during 3.0. I never dug those records but they've been doing great things with them live. Check out the Undermind from the UIC show if you don't believe me. Also, various performances of Scents and Subtle Sounds, A Song I Heard the Ocean Sing, Pebbles and Marbles, Walls of the Cave.

not lookin like it...i'm doing forecastle fest for a bachelor party, and that's the weekend before the alpharetta shows, so i'm not sure if i'll be able to swing it or not. it really depends on work.

i'd like to do forecastle > alpharetta. but we shall see.

how bout you? just chicago?

i think they're gonna do a decent fall tour this year.

I've got some overseas travel coming up in June so I'll probably only catch Chicago since I can ride my bike there.

The ONLY shithouse thing about those shows is I already have tickets to see Pearl Jam at Wrigley and it just happens to fall on the the 19th--first night of Northerly Island. What are the fucking odds. I hope to be at the 20th and 21st shows though.

I have also heard rumors about a big fall tour...bunch of indoor shows?? Not sure I'll be able to catch anything more than 4-5 hours away though.

Well phanners... Did Chicago a few weeks ago and that was ... disappointing. Night 2 was awesome and the beginning of N3S2 was amazing... then I don't even know what happened. After learning what the Harpua meant, I guess it is kind of funny. Still a big waste of time though. Energy>Ghost>Lizards was great in my opinion.

It's DICKS for me for the rest of the summer. Also got a room booked for Hampton but I'm not sure if I will be able to swing that. Chickenscratch.. hit me up.

Yea, I may possibly do Hampton if time allows, we'll see.

San Fran was really good. I streamed the first two nights. Last night looks damn fine on paper.

really?

i'm kind of snob when it comes to phish. outdoors is fine and all, but things are just more intense indoors. phish is a whole different animal inside. the sound, lights, intamicy, everything.....i just prefer my phish inside.

I also prefer indoor shows for the same reasons; but not in huge venues.
