Figures :D

Now since we're talking i'd like to mention that was a nice melody (the phrygian dominant lydian thing) and the distorted chimey sound was good.
"Now since we're talking" psh I can't recall how much one on one communication we've had, but I've always recognized you as being a good poster. The sort of poster that doesn't always have something to say, but when he does chime in often it's something important. You're recognized :p

Re: the tones in that recording, lowfi as fuck haha. 1990 Yamaha PSR-38 keyboard (essentially a glorified Casiotone, when the electronic keyboard manufacturers still hadn't decided if the things were professional tools or kids toys lol. It's got 16 built in rhythms but also has a MIDI output and can control several of my other devices in very roundabout manners if I want it to 😹) ran through some mostly very cheap guitar pedals off of Amazon. Can't recall exactly which pedals I had on, but the only one worth any appreciable money that I would have had activated in that video is my Vox Clear Drive "NuTube" preamp pedal, which is use to warm up my tone to DI it into my cheap old PA. Most of the rest of my pedals aren't even worth enough money for me to consider pawning them when I'm broke.

Keyboard and PA were both hand-me-downs from a close friend's father. Heck I guess he's a close friend now too at this point tho.

Then for a mic I just lazily placed my phone roughly in the middle of where my PA speakers point and hit record :)

I don't think we ever talked before, hence my mention of that. Maybe an ambivalent reference.

Funny about the NuTubes: My guitar amp is a Vox MV50, also with NuTubes, really great sound.

There is something special about the overall sound of a slightly distorted bell like tone (like yours resembles), maybe even approaching a sine wave. The distortion comes through mostly in the dissonances between decaying notes of a monophonic line. Eerie, fragile and beautiful.

My handle used to be thenightwatch. Haven't been around in ages but I remember you from the old days. Like I said, mainly just recognizing that you don't often take the time to post even tho you're generally around, so if you were saying something it was typically something worth paying attention to. I don't recall any actual details other than a general sense of character tho :)

Re: the eerie place between distortion and sine waves, my favorite gain sources typically have a "clean blend" knob on them that helps affect a quality like that. Hitting the front end of that NuTube with my EHX Deluxe Big Muff Sovtek (one of my only other pedals worth more than $25) with the Blend knob set at 50% really allows for a lot of range of expression. Can dig into my picking for more of a metal tone, or I can ease up and play something more akin to the lead guitar of Robert Fripp.

Blend knobs also really help when it comes to stacking multiple gain sources, allowing to retain prior tonality when using additional gain pedals for dynamic shifts. Might need multiple noise gates for that tho depending on how well made your pedals are and how clean your power supply is. Currently I only run the noise gate on my Deluxe Sovtek Muff and one additional noise gate towards the front of my chain, but before I had to sell a lot of my gear I had two standalone noise gates running at all times. And wanted a third because my Boss ODB-3 was awesome but noisy as FUCK.

Same concept for why Klone pedals work so well when stacking gain. They've got a clean blend built into the circuit even tho most of them have no knob to control the clean blend amounts. I have a handmade VFE Merman klone I need to repair that did have the clean blends broken out to their own knobs, tho. Wonderful pedal. The guy that hand built mine recently made some amps for one of the Queens of the Stone Age guys, actually (not Josh Homme, one of the other guys lol). I purchased it from him earlier in his gear building career before he branched out into amps and got notice over in Cali. Still talk to him once in awhile on Facebook.

I need someone with a steady hand to help me repair that pedal. I've got a soldering iron and all the materials, but my hands are too shaky ever since chemo gave me neuropathy. I can't safely finagle with those small electronic components anymore. I had him "socket" the board at the point where the diodes were inserted so that I could swap in other diodes to explore various tones. And ended up experimenting so much that one of the sockets broke loose over time. Really simple solder job either replacing the socket or just forgoing the sockets and committing to particular diodes, but every time I've attempted it I've just made more of a mess lol. The pedal should still be perfectly salvageable tho with someone with a bit more steady of a hand.

I've even tried to convince IRL friends to be my hands while I guide them on what to do lol. But no one has been willing.

My old avatars. First one had a transparent gif background and wasn't all fuzzy, just can't find a good copy of the sprite quickly at the moment

Xorkoth you were one of the few to ever recognize my avatar as coming from Ogre Battle lol 💙

Second one (with the four runes) for anyone curious, was originally derived from a scan I took on an ancient Canon scanner from the 90s, of the art printed on a CD from the group Tribes of Neurot (really Neurosis under a different name). Can't recall which album and I'm not sure if I still have the physical disc anymore (might be buried in storage). Can't recall how much I manipulated the image past that other than putting the runes into a neat box. I *think* I altered the color scheme in GIMP but I honestly can't remember.

So much of the internet has been lost to time (even tho that's the opposite of what we were told would happen to information on the internet), it's nice that Bluelight exists as a rock in these uncertain waters. Glad the signal to noise ratio here is so strong. 💙

Someone who is good with AI should train a large language model that for it's training data purely uses well composed "breakthrough" dose salvia divinorum trip reports from Erowid. I feel like fucking around with that would be a better trip than salvia itself was!

"The internet is the new LSD" -- Timothy Leary, I believe in the 80s but I can't recall the year for sure now. Certainly prior to his 1996 death tho. :)

The Internet is the new LSD... I can jive with that, at least somewhat. It's certainly trippy as hell... I think at the moment we're entering the "existential crisis" portion of the trip, and I hope we can keep our heads about us. Because I think it's too late for a benzo or an antipsychotic.

DMT truly lives up to its name, it’s so beautiful. How can a simple molecule like that be so dramatic and intense yet so calm and tranquil at the same time. I love this

DMT isn't always calm and tranquil for me, but it certainly is dramatic and beautiful. I actually have taken little back from it in terms of insights or anything... it's more of an explosion of wild perceptual experiences. Except the last time I did it, where it sort of redefined what I realized is even possible from consciousness. That time, I was on the tail end of LSD and also a very small dose of MXPr.

I’s more tranquil and stronger than usual because I’m on AMT but the feeling when DMT wears off and the hour after smoking it are always so utterly beautiful and soothing to me. I only smoke DMT like once a year but I should definitely explore it a little deeper. Haven’t had a breakthrough experience yet but looking forward to that.

Yeah I agree the tail end of DMT is very tranquil, I love it.

Certainly nowhere near tripping, but I spontaneously decided to take 150mg of DMHA (octadrine) just now. I'm dragging ass today, my energy levels are so low. Hope it doesn't overstimulate me, I bought it but haven't tried it yet. I bought it because so many people seem to love the effects of 1,3 DMAA as a workout supplement, but personally I hate it, it's so nasty feeling and overstimulating. A number of people on reddit who feel the same way about DMAA seem to find DMHA much nicer, and it's widely reported to be gentler without a crash. So here goes. I am intending on getting back into working out this week, trying to get up before work to do it. It would be good to have a pre workout supplement that got me in the zone, especially at first, because I'm gonna be battling through some serious weakness/out of shapeness.

LOL yeah, the benzo boofing was merely out of necessity because I was too anxious/nauseous to keep it down orally. I don't think that it worked any better that way, but at least it worked.

Today I'm back to taking it the conventional way. Oh well... no harm done. I didn't poop it out today, so I'm assuming that it got absorbed okay.

💊 + :butt2: = :)

DOC is so exhausting. Stayed up all night Sunday til about noon yesterday and slept through until about 8 AM today oof
Wow that is quite the stretch! As highly intrigued as I am to give DOC (or DOx in general) a try one day, I don't know when I'll ever have that kind of time to commit, at least in the near future. Maybe one day..

Yeah when I was younger I would have no problem with that, but these days it's definitely exhausting and I need some recovery time. I usually take it around noon when I take it, and I will definitely not sleep until the next night. Keep in mind, though, that I struggle not to have insomnia anyway. My sleep seems to be disrupted by psychedelics more than most people... even short acting ones like 2C-B, I won't be able to sleep that night even if I take it at like 8pm. I won't even be tripping anymore, I just can't sleep (without a benzo).

I can't believe I used to take DOC every weekend for a while... even Friday night and also Saturday night sometimes. o_O
