A Pennsylvania eighth-grader who became ill after smoking synthetic marijuana and had a double lung transplant has died.

Tonya Rice tells the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review ( http://bit.ly/tk0Vod) that her 13-year-old son, Brandon, died Thursday morning at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh at UPMC.

The boy smoked the fake marijuana out of a plastic PEZ candy dispenser. The chemicals in the drugs caused extensive damage to his lungs. Brandon was put on a respirator in June and had a double lung transplant in September.

The "chemicals in the drugs" could have been anything ("various names, such as K2, Spice, Blaze and Vanilla Sky".)
since it doesn't specify any cannabinoid, plus whatever esoteric reaction that the drugs given during the transplant had with the remnants of the drugs if any, plus the fact that he's 13 all could've contributed. After all some people do experience a feeling that they're going to die when first taking JWH-018.
 
Fucking kids these days but its not shocking cause there are a ton of dumbasses in this state, can't wait to move....
 
Oh come on guys, a little respect. This is a child that did something stupid (I'm sure many of us have done worse, and at a LOT older than 13), and is now dead. That's heavy shit.

One mistake cost a child his life and it's a fucking tragedy - the responses on this thread are absolutely disgusting. I hope you never have to live through what his family have..
 
Story seems dishonest. Aggressively breathing in fumes from burning plastic leads to lung problem. He undergoes a lung transplant. Hospital administers drugs either during or after the transplant. This leads to a weakened immune system and subsequent lung infection. Infection kills him. No, the synthetic marijuana killed him.

I don't really know much about what these synthetic cannabinoids are capable of, but dying from fake marijuana sure sounds like a better story than dying from PEZ dispenser exhaust.

I wonder how many times this has happened or is going to happen. As easy as "real" marijuana is for some kids to get, it's definitely not the first drug most have access to if they want to experiment. It's usually like stealing your uncle's cigarettes, buying your friend's adderall or like taking beer from your parents refrigerator. But now you've got middle school kids getting their hands on this shit and doing retarded things with it.

It's a lot like kids who huff gasoline, etc because they don't have access to anything else.

Just another casualty of the anti-harm reduction stance.
 
Its not like I don't feel bad for the kid but its not like he wasn't a dumbass either. And I'm 18 and not too long ago was I thirteen and I still would of been smart enough to not do that... Its just hard to be sad about anyone no matter what age dying because of mistake like these. There are just no tears left to shed for everyone. I'm not heartless I'm just saying the truth. Maybe these deaths will teach people something but do they ever? The answer is probably not.
 
One of my friends smoked that synthetic shit & his 1st time he had problems breathing as well. He had to lie down for 30 minutes & swore up & down he would never touch that shit again. People should just smoke real weed, you dont know WTF they put in that synthetic shit.

Feel sorry for the kid above in the story but im pretty sure the plastic burning didnt help his situation either.
 
You can't just say smoke real weed cause that shit is illegal and people don't want to get caught. And yes it's tragic and what not that he died but come on out of a fucking pez dispenser? Someone should slap his parents for not teaching the kid that burnt plastic is fucking toxic.
And I too felt like I was going to die after smoking certain jwh's for the first time. It's crazy shit

A kid decides to get high, he dies, and you say he deserves it.

I hope you all realize what assholes you are.

This is an unfortunate incident, lets hope its doesnt happen often or to your own kids.

You need to rewire your brains to feel sympathy and compassion for something like this.
We are all drug users here and some sort of accident can happen to any of us.

The responses in this thread are as bad the news itself.
 
I'm not sorry for being an asshole. Its called survival of the fittest.... He should of been grateful for the lung transplants he had that some other dying kid is begging to have but no he had to do this and die...ruining perfectly good lungs. So call me an asshole I don't care. I don't sugarcoat things.
 
^ It is not about sugar-coating anything.
It is about basic human empathy.
If you can't feel anything for a 13-year old child who thought that he could get away with doing something, but ended up destroying his lungs, experiencing incredible pain and suffering along the way, then you have closed your heart to life.
If you cannot understand that sometimes, people (particularly children) do things that they later regret, and still feel compassion for such people, then you don't seem to have any love for your fellow human beings.
I feel sorry for you.
 
No, I feel sorry for him I already said that before but he is well was stupid and to be an asshole for saying the truth is hilarious. I'm blunt and ill say what everyone else won't say. I'm not going to shed tears over this kid but ill shed tears over the kid who dies because he couldn't get that transplant.
 
Kids will suffer most from these research chemicals, since kids usually are the most ignorant about their own health(atleast I was) if its up to them. I personally wouldnt touch these, but 6-10 yrs ago id been like " omfg kewl legal weed lets make a gravity bong ". If not for these prohibition laws the kid would most likely have smoked a joint and had a laugh & could still be alive, and this chemical would never have been mass produced or even known about.
 
^ Exactly, I occasionally indulge in jwh chemicals because I got busted a few months ago and if I smoke marijuana, I will fail a drug test, they will re-seize my car and I will go to jail for a long time, not to mention when I get out, I will have no place to live.

^ Imo, those are all good reasons not to smoke pot.

I feel bad for the kid but at the same time, it seems like common sense to not inhale burning plastic, though not everyone is raised right and I think that has more to do with it. If his parents had taught him better, he might've avoided this costly mistake.
