oxazepam vs diazepam

The main active metabolite of diazepam is actually desmethyldiazepam, a partial agonist at the BZD receptor sites, making it (desmethyldiazepam) a weaker benzodiazepine. However desmethyldiazepam is the reason for the long-half of Diazepam. While Diazepam itself has a half life of 20-100 hours, desmethyldiazepam has a half life nearly twice as long (200 hours). Diazepam has two other active metabolites, oxazepam being one of them. The other is Temazepam. Diazepam is roughly twice as potent as Oxazepam, along with Temazepam. I, however find Temazepam more enjoyable and one of my favorite benzos. Hope that clears things up for you...

Also, in the U.S. Diazepam is available in 2mg, 5mg and 10mg tablets.

The main differnces is lenght of action :

Oxazepam is a very short action benzo like xanax

i would use oxazepam if you needed a short acting anxiety relief (like before a speech or what not). its on the weak side, so a therapeutic dose will probably not make you anyway near as sedated as most other benzos. recreationally though, diazepam is hands down my preference. i find it odd that oxazepam is really used that often anymore to be honest. i suppose in some situations it has a preferable efficacy/side effect profile. Be safe.

V's vs Oxazepam : nothing to do

V's one the best
Oxazepam one of the worst (for short acting use XANAX)

^^ true, o was thinking more of a recreational benzo... after for therapeutic use i think diazepam is still slightly superiour, beter muscle realaxing properties, and more sedating...

agreed. i actualy use diazepam fo anxiety control (prescribed) and this was after many tries with other benzos (usually the high potency ones which seem much more popular with docs these days.) its half life and metabolism leave a wide range if dosing schedules and i find taking 1/4 of my daily dose in the AM and the other 3/4 at bedtime helps me to sleep much more soundly and not be to sedated by the smaller daytime dose. medicinally, i think diazepam is far underused and sometimes i think it has to do with equivalencies with the newer high potency benzos (for example a script for 3 mg/day of klonopin or xanax) sounds less intimidating than 30 mg /day of diazepam. who knows 8)

i used 70Mg Valium a day, without knowing how long the substance worked.
Got a massive deppression after each binge.
Stopped doing that.
I now take 50-200Mg oxazepam a day against anxiety.
but that's thanx to my wife's docter who prescibes her 200Mg a day...
and she hardly takes any of them.
But if i'm not stressed ,say in a weekend, i can do without them, with no strange side effects.

I was prescribed Diazepam 2mg for my anxiety a few months back, i find for me personally they do the job well, ive found the little buggers a godsend on comedowns especially, MDMA comedowns where you feel physically and mentally drained. Warm you up, chills you out and with a couple of zopiclones added in im away with the fairys.

Recreationally used on there own, pointless really for most i'd say.
I don't mind now and again taking 20mg and relaxing, but thats the most you'll get, relaxation ;)

That's how my addiction to benzos started.

^ I think stimulant comedowns is how a lot of recreational drug users first start using benzo's. They are fantastic for that purpose and the more stimulants you use the more anxious you get, in turn making benzo's more desirable whether you are coming down or not.

At recreational does I love oxazepam. I think its being kinda underated. That said I could eat a jar of xanax and still stand so I gues it's just what you're used to. i take 6mg xanax everyday, but that was 12mg for a while. I really like mixing xanax with valium both anxiety benzo with few mogadon/nitrazepam a hypnotic benzo and a few oxazepam - muscle relaxant all bases covered. Bit of codeine in there as a cyp34a inhibitor doesn't hurt either. If i've got valium and diazepam I always take them together, I dont fully get the active metabolite thing, but goes down a treat.

I was recently prescribed oxazepam (25 X 15mg) as I have anxiety issues when it comes to flying. Obviously I don't need all 25 of them so I thought I'd give a go at using them in a recreational manner.

I have NO experience with benzodiazepines. As this is a first time dose what would you guys recommend? The only experience I have with depressants is codeine. (CWE - The highest dose I've done with that was 250mg).

Would it be a good idea to perhaps double drop them - 30mgs?

Would it be recommended to mix them with perhaps a cone or two?

Just trying to gage an understanding here… Feedback is MUCH appreciated.

Thanks people.

You are on the right track, oxazepam is one of a few active metabolites of diazepam. IMO diazepam is far superior... Oxazepam, I would compare closer to lorazepam than diazepam in terms of effects. I have found that it is great for mixing with certain other drugs, though! (Just use reasonable doses, of course!)

I fully agree with pegasus on this one.

It feels quite similar to lorazepam. It's mainly just anxiolytic and not much of a sedative.

30mg oxazepam = 10mg diazepam by the most benzo equivalence charts.

Yes, diazepam is much superior. Oxazepam is very subtle, sort of like lorazepam. It is not a good sedative with little anxiolytic effects. Not my cup of tea.

hell lorazepam is way better than oxazepam.

at least i can catch a buzz off lorazepam, with oxazepam its like trying to get a buzz of valerian.

Sorry, I didn't mean to say that lorazepam was so far down on the benzodiazepine chain like oxazepam, I just meant to compare the sedation because I don't find lorazepam much sedating. But lorazepam is by far better than oxazepam.

oh but it gets worse than oxazepam, have you ever tried quazepam(seriously poor excuse for a benzo).
