Have taken hydrocodone and oxycodone hundreds of times. I usually take a minimum of 100 either. Usually fall asleep easily while on any opiate unless I get "shocks".

Well last month, twice, once on oxycodone(110 mg) and once combining both(80 mg of oxycodone 170mg of hydrocodone) I found I was unable to sleep. Even at the peak of my nod with lights off I simply couldn't. So the first time I took one 12.5 ambiem cr and added one 10 mg zolpidem ir. Didnt work at all. Every single other time I have taken zolpidem in any form with or without any opiates in my system I have fallen asleep at will. I just lie there in bed doing nothing.

The second time was two days later. Only this time I took 1.2 mg of clonidine and two hours later still was not asleep. Again, every single time ive taken clonidine I have knocked out for atleast 10-12 hours.Well same thing today with 170mg of hydrocodone alone. Took 180mg of temazepam 2 hours ago. Just got on to type this 20 min ago. All of a sudden I simply can not sleep on opiates. Quite random and out of the blue.

I exercise daily and eat decently, I can sleep fine on any other sedating drug or without the assistance of any sleep aids. Anyone have any suggestions on why this randomly started or anything yall could think of for now or future reference to help sleep on opiates (other than not taking opiates)? Any sugguestions would be appreciated.

Ps I know these are high dose and yes for CWE.

Ive had them keep me up && give me energy, but never not being able to sleep at all. Have you tried xanax or another benzo? If i were you i wouldnt stop taking them all together.... I dont think I could lol

Sometimes when I'm on hydrocodone and have dosed 2 hours prior to laying down, my body will not let me fall asleep. I get these "whoosing" sounds in my ears that sound like a loud fan/air conditioner. Then my body will "jolt" a bit and cause me to move to another sleeping position. Sometimes 25mgs of DPH will help but I have to wait it out other times.

Benadryl the time with the clonidine to no avail. I won't mix another benzo with this. Might blackout. And what sucks is I might not even sleep during a blackout. I'll just start chasing small children around naked while looking like a zombie. Great response times from the OD. I'll try another benzo if this happens again I guess.

Has anyone else had this happen as randomly or as severely? Or would anyone why it happens?

This is what someone put for the topic i just started but i think it would work for you too since the ops arent letting you sleep

Well, it depends on the dosages. The combination in and of itself isn't inherently dangerous; in fact doctors often prescribe the two at the same time. It's just that you might end up taking way too much of one or the other as some of the effects will seem to cancel each other out. Say you take more clonazepam than you normally would because of the amphetamine, and then the amphetamine wears off while the clonazepam is still going strong. Like a delayed-overdose sort of effect. That's my understanding of it anyway.

Sorry, but I do not see any correlation at all. This happens whether I combine opiates or not.

I took Add, now i cant sleep, so i needed to know if i could take a downer to help. You cant sleep because of the opiates for whatever reason so you took a downer to sleep, the quote was just saying how much i needed to take && for what effect

Opiates are downers/sedatives already. I have never gotten insomnia from opiates on a consistent basis. The vast majority of people do not get insomnia from opiates that can't be helped by some sort of sleep aid or sedative.

this happens to me often, and i consider it a blessing and a curse: i love to stay up and nod, but i know if i don't get my z's, my next set may not be effective. the only thing i can think of that i can suggest with confidence is dopamine. research suggests that opiates affect dopamine activity and dopamine is important for sleep. sorry i can't provide more detail, but it may be worth looking into if you're interested.

Interesting.... Albeit quitting completely will not improve your sleep (believe me i'm running on less than 2 hours a night this past week). I usually do stay up a bit later on opiates just to get some bang for my buck but this is an entirely conscious process. Oxy and Hydro are more Euphoric than sedating in my experience so this may have something to do with it. The fact that your nodding yet can't sleep... I consider nodding a very close cousin to sleep.

Thanks you two i dont feel alone on here. But yes for most it doesnt keep you up, the more "addicts" (as they call themselves) I meet love opiates because of the adverse reaction they/we/ I get instead. lol

its rare but some people like my self get a different high to opiates than others , instead of being all goouchy we get a more hyper feeling

when i was using gear i was sometimes up for days with very little sleep

the only way i got a gouch was if i took benzos with it

fuck sometimes my methadone keeps me up for hours

Not one minute of sleep. It's not withdrawals as this is the first time I've taken anything in a week. Benzos and I don't agree most if the time, especially the ones that are more potent mg per mg. The hypnotic ones tend to cause black outs for me, so I wont be taking them for sleep.

im not talking about withdrawls im meaning the actual effects of th drug gets me high, i havnt had withdrawls for over a year cos im on a script and still sometimes i dont sleep due to the methadone , just last saturday i was up all night cos i took more of my methadone that i should

i appreciate the acknowledgement of 'shocks'- i have those as well and wonder, 'what the hell was that?'. alpha state or something?

by shocks if you mean when your gouching (about to fall asleep with head heavy and facing floor) then you get a sudden jolt as if to shock you out of it .. what is happening is your body has gotten so relaxed that your heart rate has dropped too much and this "shock" is giving you a jolt to get you out of that state

or do u mean the feeling you get in you brain and you quickly turn your head , like a head spasm ? ive had that from taking mass amounts of e's before , feck knows what it is lol

I believe we are all talking about the relaxation shocks. Your brain thinks you are dying so it activates almost all nerves at once. First time I literally though " oh my god, I am having a seizure or stroke and I'm going to die" I now know I'm not going to die, but they still scare the shit out of me.

^I've had them with high doses of hydrocodone as well.

Here's what you should try

Diphenhydramine (I know you've already tried it, but I wanted to mention it anyway)
Doxylamine (its the active "sleepy" ingredient in NyQuil, but is available by itself OTC as well)
Promethazine (not OTC in the U.S. but extremely effective)
Hydroxyzine (not OTC in the U.S. either but also effective)

There are of course, the benzodiazepines to consider, but I would only go down that route if you're experienced with them and have a tolerance. Antipsychotics are an option as well but that's a whole other bag of worms.
