Opioids Opiate insomnia

I believe we are all talking about the relaxation shocks. Your brain thinks you are dying so it activates almost all nerves at once. First time I literally though " oh my god, I am having a seizure or stroke and I'm going to die" I now know I'm not going to die, but they still scare the shit out of me.

thats the ones i was talking about, ive not had them in years, i used to get them from smoking weed

I have never done hydrocodone only oxycodone and Oxy is quite stimulating opioid. Not that heavy dreamy nod opioid like morphine or heroin.

By the way I have started to get pretty hard to sleep and I think it has to do with my high dose of Suboxone (32mg)

i have this with all opiates/opioids not at the start tho.. but now if i dose to late i cant sleep so i would suggest trying to dose early in the day, that seems to work i bit.. but ive got the exact same problem, not even benzo's help unless i take very high doses and mix with other sedating drugs so i usally end up mixing, opiates, benzo's, sedating antihistamines, weed and maybe a little booze... not recommented tho as this combo is really not safe!

you might try melatonin? ive used ambien, tylenol pm, etc but melatonin seems to work well for me and its (comparably) safe..esp with opiates already in your system. i get them in 1 MG sublingual cherry do-hickeys and they work super fast and dont seem to leave you groggy the next day. I used them alot when i was doing opiates and they helped me sleep.

I as well sometimes have a hard time falling asleep on opiates. It's like a cyclical thing for me though because for the most part opiates make me nod as well as help me to have a pretty restful sleep. But for the past few days, after not having used for 5 days, I've been having a hard time falling asleep. So most of this week has been marred by restless, insufficient sleep.

A couple other random or cyclical side effects that I've been getting since I started up again:

major shocks. I don't know if it's what some have described above, but it's like one big jolt that scares the hell out of me.

teeth grinding. This is completely new - I don't know why I've been gently grinding my teeth this week. I concentrate on the left side of my mouth, near the back. I like the rubbing sensation and the vibrations it makes.

Opiates tend to have a stimulating effect on me, i can only really fall asleep toward the end of a dose (5-6 hours)

otherwise i either stay up with my mind racing or get a feeling when lying down that feels like im falling through the bed for a split second then goes away for a minute or two

opiates at high doses always keep me up at night in a good mood, with maybe 10min intervals of half asleep, the munchies, itching, getting of bed in morning in a great mood, only methadone, and morphine does that to me..

To decrease grinding your teeth, I would suggest to invest in magnesium supplements.

thanks...already take 1g magnesium a day though... mainly cause of my meth abuse...

CH, any links on some of the mechanism that might cause the grinding of teeth with opioids? to be completely clear, I had no stims in my system at the time - just oxycodone. this is the first time I've heard someone other than myself report the same experience, and once again I'm curious to learn more. thanks!

I've had this many times and don't worry there is a scientific basis on why opiates and causing you insomnia. I'm really tired right now (but up on opiates lol) so I'm not going to go searching through my neuro articles to find the article I'm thinking of but I'll do it sometime after easter and send you a link.

I always get insomnia on high doses of opiates. I'll layer there all night and not be sure if I ever really went to sleep or not. Sounds like it would suck but it doesn't

.

I've never been able to sleep on opiates. I thought this was normal. I sleep like a baby once I come down but when I am actually high I can't sleep at all.

Opiate insomnia doesn't bother me as much as stimulant insomnia however, which I can't stand, because it doesn't persist beyond the high.

Some days I can go to sleep like a normal person & other days im up till 4am, like tonight. Maybe my back pain attributes to my sleep patterns.

I never truly hit REM sleep on opiates. I usually fall into a blissful half-sleep (not really a nod, but close to it).

I will lay for hours in this 'sleep' state, and I can function better the next day than if I had no sleep at all, but the day after I need to make up 75% of those hours, as it wasn't true sleep.

Insomnia is a common side effect of opiates. If you're trying to take sedatives to put you to sleep, just be careful, as it could lead to OD's.

IME, it's best to just plan your dose. That way, your high will end right before bedtime.

There's a bunch of stuff out there on opiate insomnia:
... Heroin is about twice as potent as morphine in producing this type of insomnia. 6 'Morphine insomnia' appears to be a characteristic initial effect of several opioids, at least in nondependent opiate addicts, and might serve as a model insomnia for evaluation of hypnotics.

I was up all last night again

As i said before on a saturday i will take more of my methadone than usual

Well i ended up i did actually have a small gouch last night but ended up not sleeping until around 9 this morning and really struggled to get up today after waking several times but just couldnt get out of bed and falling asleep again

Its no where near as bad as when i was on heroin though, if i was i would of probably managed to get up after just a few hours sleep and then be up all night again tonight

This sleeping problems actually used to be beneficial to me when i went cold turkey several times in the past before going on script

The reason being is because since i had hardly slept for so long when the gear came out of me i used to sleep for crazy amounts of time rather than being stuck up and feeling the full wrath of the withdrawal symptoms
