Open Air Scenes?

Ya bricks, I was talkin about the cops makin me nervous, not stick up kids. And its cool with a phone connect man, you're in and out back on the E real quick, but the spots that are hot are the open air spots where cops know ur there to cop, nothin else.

Yeah I wouldnt wanna drive a late model nice car in the hood either. I drive a 98 explorer which blends in great cuz its older and around here everyone drives American made whips. I definitely wouldnt be caught dead in the hood bein white in a brand new Caddy cts like someone else mentioned. Thats just askin fro trouble.

I only have experience copping open air on the East coast, big cities.

New Jersey obviously I would say is #1 in terms of open air markets. There are so many big cities spread out over and they all are flooded with high quality and plenty of heroin and coke. Newark, Jersey City, Elizabeth, Paterson, Irvington and the list goes on. And down south is Camden/Trenton. It's all run mostly professional by straight drug dealers who care about business and customers and won't rip you off. It's easy to find. Just hit the projects and apartment complexes or the more notorious blocks and streets. Just watch your ass for the cops.. aside from patrol there is a narcotics unit, VICE, the DEA, etc all over. But my god it's just too easy. First time I went to Newark by myself with no experience, I drove around an area I heard about, was whistled over quickly. The dude wasn't a dealer, but a junkie and he knew why I was there. I took him to the spot and we both benefited. I got a spot and I threw him some for hooking me up. Quick and easy. JUST WATCH OUT FOR THE COPS!

NYC. People say open air in NYC is dead, and while it is not a zoo like in the 70's, 80's and part of the 90's. It is still there very much. Parts of Brooklyn (Bushwick, Williamsburg, Flatbush, Bed-Stuy, etc) There are project complexes all over. Great place to look. Even people on the street you can have luck with if you have a good read on people and approach them with some confidence. NYC you got to watch out for the cops too, especially TNT but it's safer than Jersey in my opinion. Don't forget the Bronx (tons and tons of drugs there in the open), Harlem still popping a bit, Washington Heights, etc. You just have to know what you are doing a little bit or at least act like it. Have a good eye for people and cops and don't draw attention to yourself. Dealers and junkies always have their eyes peeled. If they feel you are around an area looking for something, they will flag you down.

PA - Living in East PA just over the border from NJ temporarily, I have some experience with PA. Philly is obviously easy as shit. Very easy. It works similar to NJ cities. Just watch for cops, know the areas well and pick your marks. You'll be served in no time. I lived closer to Allentown, PA which is the heroin hub here in the Lehigh Valley. Big Puerto Rican population. But it's a crap shoot. Virtually no open air, although if you ask around the streets enough you can get a line in somewhere and meet a dealer. Takes a little but more networking than Philly or NJ. A lot of the dope is coming from NYC/NJ/Philly/weight, cut and grammed up or bagged in folds themselves. This can be a good or bad thing. Lots of drugs in Allentown, but it's kept underground much more than Newark, etc. If you grew up here, you would have no problem, but just moving to the area I had to do a lot of legwork networking, but it's not too bad. Although I would rather go to, NJ/NYC just for the quality/price and convenience especially if I had a phone dealer.

If anyone wants any tips for copping in open air cities, especially the ones I named, I'd be glad too. I've picked up quite a few over the years.

Thanks for the tight posts!

Was just in Manhattan. Went to the East Village- they were having a howl festival in Thomson Sq Park. Then we went East towards the river. The area's been gentrified but at the end of 8th or 9th and D there looked like buildings that were projects. Avenue D escaped gentrification it would appear. There were people hanging on the street but it didn't look like any open air. Went to East Harlem too- there I didn't see open air but it looked like the place had potential. Though I wasn't looking- was up there getting pizza. But everywhere I went in the city (didn't go above about 115th street felt safe). The impression I got was that scoring in Manhattan was a case of knowing what your doing- like you said.

Saw a few people walking around the East Village looking goud out.

But anyway-wasn't looking for dope.

In San Francisco as a previous poster pointed out there was an open air scene. It had diminished in one spot and I think moved to another when we visited back in 05 or 06'. Guess its returned. East Palo Alto had one as did Oakland and Richmond I think. Met somebody at a meeting in Manhattan that said he would occasionally come across white dope up there in the last few years- of strong quality. Used to hook up there periodically- the dope on the streets was always worse- when you'd buy a bag in 02' would usually get a ballon that contained a cellophane wrapper of white and another of black. Always better off with a conection buying weight- but on the whole, the dope was always better in San Diego.

But anyway, San Diego doesn't have much of an open air scene to speak of. However, people still cross the border into Tijuana. That city is full of dope spots probably one of the largest open airs in North America- , some of which were actually protected by police, however the situation is changing there with a heightening of Calderone's war and you also run the real risk of abduction especially if you are an American. The mexican Military is apparently stationed throughout the city. I had digits when I was using (and my main connect was across from a police substation- moved years ago) but dope fiends cross the border every day. I think its a function of it being a sure thing down there and you don't have to wait. Now kidnaping are occuing with greater frequency I hear. Anybody got up to date info?

Dopefiends started going down there in the late 90s for the dope scene and many Americans actually started living down there. Before, trying to get anything but pharms would get you arrested and you would be paying a heavy fine. Times have changed.

In Southern CA the only reliable open air scene I've heard about is Santa Anna. LA probably has a few. South East San Diego has a few open airs for Crack but I won't say specifically. City Heights had alot of dope but one used to need a connect.

In NY you might be able to hunt some down, but chances are you won't find anything even remotely close to a thriving open air market.

In NJ, if you can't get dope in Newark or Paterson, you have to be a dumb as dirt. A foreigner straight off the airplane should be able to cop in under 15 mintues after arriving at NWK lol.

It's like a market..you don't have to buy some dealers shitty dope or take their crap, becuase there's another dealer next door and 2 more around the corner. 100s more in town. Prices are rock bottom. Quality does vary but 70% of the tiem fire is available, 15% its all crap and 15% theres like 1 fire stamp and the rest is shit.

If I end up doin dope again I am gonna try to street myself instead of how I usually go through my middle man's fire connection cause my middle man beat me today on a brick just never came back I was so pissed

Sorry to hear that Bhannon. Yeah it's always something no matter how we try to connect.

^^

Yes in can!

Tijuana is saturated. People are clawing at you for money everywhere you go, especially if your white. Everything's just as expensive as in San Diego even though Mexico has decriminalized drugs, your still going to get hit up for bribe money by the police.

I MAY or may not be in Miltown ;-) *Mr Omega.. haha*. There is definitely an open air scene. It's just not EVERYwhere in the city - but then, I think that's always the case. You have to go into 'certain areas'. Otherwise people are pretty tight lipped about this sort of thing. As mentioned, for many classes of drug users 'connects' are pretty highly regarded and people don't like to give 'em up. (I often find myself fitting into that category - I've been screwed over TOO many times)

I live in Chicago and we're known for open air market. Basically any block you go down on the west side you'll find heroin/crack (and sometimes weed). On the south side of Chicago you'll usually need to call someone or go into the projects.

Funny you mention Chi-Town, I remember when I could try 3 spots at any time, day or night and get served. In mid 2011 I tried doing this and I went to probably 20 corners and got nothing but dumb stares from a few youngbloods and not one yelled back or told me to park...I think the CPD finally locked it down :(
