Official Paedo Discussion Megathread v2

MyDrugbuddy, hard cases make bad law, cases like this are aberrations ( I hate using outliers), even the most rabid Red Tops seem to be keeping their powder dry on this one, its hard not to think about the poor helpless little tiny mites, and evil is its own reward.

I wonder about the mothers in this case, if they hadn't being involved with Watkins, would they have been common garden bad mums and no more, I was reminded of the Susan Smith case http://crime.about.com/od/murder/a/susan_smith_3.htm.

The Barrister for the State also stated IIRR that drugs namely Meth Amp and crack played a large part in the offences and it is easy to imagine decreased inhibitions coupled with increased arousal playing a part in the matter, so maybe if we are truly a HR community here might address this , though for my part I suspect that this what part of the deal done to get in the guilty plea nice and handy, it ought not affect sentencing.

What is the tariff in the UK for this, since he swerved the rape charge which I assume could carry life, what is the max sentence available to the beak?

There's definitely a link between this kind of fucked-up behaviour and what some people like to call 'substance use disorders', particularly with regard to those two drugs. Food for thought.

As for the charge of attempted rape versus actual rape, British law is notoriously narrow in its definition of the term, and if you consider a baby's physiognomy in this context (not a pleasant thought) there may have been complications. In all likelihood, it would have constituted rape in another country.

No, but you seem to be coming down on the side that he needs treatment, and are not talking about punishment.

I've not really asserted any specific position, I've just attempted to address certain posts which I wanted to address. I can see why you might get that impression though, and I believe he should at least undergo thorough analysis.

What fucked up behaviour are you referring to? For example, are you referring to his ordering a woman to abuse her own baby while he watched on skype? Or the womans actual abuse of her own baby? Which of the two do you have proof of a link with either drug of?

You don't.

Cool your jets. I'm not attempting to link either drug with said behaviour. I'm referring to people diagnosed with 'substance abuse disorders' (a controversial diagnosis) who exhibit 'psychopathic' tendencies.

There's a huge difference between most crack / meth users and those diagnosed with 'substance use disorders'.

And before you make the next leap, I'm not validating the existence of 'substance abuse disorders', just saying that the link between 'psychopathic' behaviours and the abuse of those drugs is worthy of further research.

Perhaps you could blame the drugs at the time he was actually carrying out the act but what about the months and months of preparation that you'd need to do to get yourself into that kind of position with a baby? That takes long, gruelling, time-consuming, sober work.

What did someone say about Jimmy Saville? That he must've spent every waking minute thinking about how to abuse kids.

I remember when I first heard that Ian Watkins had been charged that I thought they were talking about the Welsh guy from the pop group Steps.

You werent the only one Max. I think one of the main rags issued an apology to him yesterday for printing his picture instead of Watkins

He had to leave Twitter he was getting so much abuse. I guess he's lucky a vigilante lynch mob didnt get him. They wouldnt have stopped to think that THE proper criminal Ian Watkins is in custody.

Ive never actually heard a Lost Prophets track ? Are they any good ? Way to get publicity for his band ! :o(Allthough as a 'token gesture' HMV have stopped stocking their releases). So Garry Glitter and TLP join the blacklist, i doubt any radio station will play their music again either now.

You can still buy Glitter records from several big retailers, you know. He even recorded an album after he got out, expecting a comeback to be viable.

It's the time of year where you listen out to see whether anybody lets 'Another Rock 'n' Roll Christmas get under the radar.

They still play certain songs of his over the PA at US sports grounds. The paedo stuff just passed them by.

I think he had a good sound and recorded a few decent tunes. It's not like you can really listen to any of it without thinking about what a monster he is though.

Oh it's our fault that he is a peado is it?

No I didn't say it's "our fault" did I?

I'm not looking for someone to blame. There are any number of social ills that I could list but I don't really feel it's necessary, none of them are "our fault" but changes to how we organise ourselves might improve the situation.

Former lover of paedophile rocker Ian Watkins claims he 'wanted to kill a baby and had sick fantasies about getting her pregnant and raping the child'

Predictably, the Mail is running with this one.

Notice how the same ex-girlfriend who was an escort a few days ago is now described as a 'former banker' as she feeds them the juicy details. They've also started using her full surname rather than her nickname.

They make a lot of the fact that another ex-girlfriend of his was 4'11". I mean, come on...

As sickening as the basic details of the story are, the tabloids help turn it into a voyeuristic spectacle.
