It was a dramatic match. We always knew we had the ability but time was running out. I think mentally and physically Japan were very drained and we had a bit left. One thing the other team doesn't have is Aussie spirit.

that is the best fuckin quote i have ever read when it comes to sports..

yeah..........pea hearts was the description we used at the time............England are another example of pea hearts.

with all the blind patriotism in here you'd be easily mistaken for thinking this was the usa and i just criticized the president.

Yeh, because that would be quite easy to mistake....

Off-topic: How do I put someone on Ignore?

what is so blind about it???

How can you say a team did not deserve to win? When the stats show favour to the winning team???

Honestly???

Australia were the first team to get a come from behind win in the world cup this year? Whats that say about us? We are fuckin SUPER fit, something we might have a good + on other teams, i rather us come from behind (SHUT UP CB) then lose the fuckin game?

Australia (AUS) Statistics Japan (JPN)
20 Shots 6
12 Shots on Goal 2
22 Fouls 11
5 Corner Kicks 3
3 Free Kicks (shots on goal) 0
0 Penalty Kicks 0
5 Offsides 3
0 Own Goals 0
4 Cautions 3
0 Expulsions 0
52% Ball Possession 48%
36 Actual Playing Time 33

You cant argue with the stats?

If, by chance, some fuckin magical way won this thing, Do you think we wouldnt deserve it?

i rather us come from behind (SHUT UP CB)

What... I didn't say anything yet ;) I didn't even mention your atrocious grammar... ;)

But yeah. We rocked it out. The Japanese scored a goal that wasn't, we ran through them like the wind in the last 20 minutes with our fresh legs off the bench, and destroyed them!!

Gotta love the reports coming out of Japan at the moment blaming people for the loss. Zico has been blamed, Nakamura has been blamed and the president of their football federation has been blamed...

The Japanese really aren't a fantastic football supporting country... there is a reason that many teams/coaches don't like them...

CB :)

No, I was thinking that theres an excess of patriotism in here.
I actually wrote an entry up rebutting basically all of your previous post mr chops, but i figured it'd be wasted on you.
Suffice to say, Australia won the game, but has a lot to improve on.

And yes, their fitness level is astounding, although i wouldn't have expected any different result when your opponents game consists of fast breaks whenever they get an opportunity. naturally, they were going to start to fall to pieces after 80minutes of sprinting.

and sometimes they give you too much credit... and you end up with debt... debt is bad...

But back to our regular programming, does anyone think that what with the lack-lustre Brazilian performance against Croatia, that Australia has a smidgen more chance of pulling off something in their next game?

I think that Australia will have some good scoring chances in this game. I think it will come down to good execution in terms of our scoring, and poor execution on behalf of the Brazilians for us to maybe salvage a draw...

But then the Brazilians could just have been having a slow start to the tournament and rebound like nothing else and spank us 5-0... here's hoping not though...

And that CB is what I was worrying about while watchging the match this morning.,

Brazil did what they had to and little more..........Im concerned that some scribes may get up them and sting there pride a bit which would be very dangerous for us..............I just hope they take a cock sure attitude into the match and maybe we catch them out.........we have done it before against them.

Either that or they are happy to takle it easy and just win by the odd goal, preferring to save themselves for later in the comp.

Question for all............Dare we dream about actually winning the World Cup?......lol

there is a part of me thats thinks we have the guts to beat Brazil...

If we were to score first, i would be a bit confident in us holding onto a goal lead when Guus would throw in a defence line that would be the equal to the great wall of china

Im hoping for a win, but i see a draw... which would be perfect espically if Croatia and Japan were to draw also...

Winning the cup is a different ball game all together, at the moment, it looks like we would face Italy or the Czech in the round of 16, with a slight chance the yanks... But, if we were to get that far, we would have all the confidence in the world, and a heart that will never say die against any team, which was proven against the japs

one can only dream...

Dreaming about winning the world cup... wow... it's an awesome dream :)

However hypothesising about it after one victory over a team with a leaky defence is getting very very very far ahead of ourselves :)

Lets use the old sporting cliche of one match at a time. If we can make it through to the next round, then who knows what will happen, I KNOW that we have the heart to get there, but heart is unfortunately not all there is...

So yeah, bring on Brazil, and then the world... cup =D

CB =D

It does look like we're most likely going to draw up against Italy or Czech. Both are really good teams...

Its about time soccer got recognised in Australia... i know lots of aussies are gonna flame me for this, but i really wish soccer will overtake football. Play a sport that the world plays, not only Australia!

^^ Yeah i'm not looking for overtaking, but on equal pegging would be amazing. Imagine everyone talking about the weekends games, running tipping comps, hell why not state of origin football :D

It is football. Not soccer. If you went to Europe and said "soccer" you'd get blank looks from everyone.

Aussie footy is still heaps fun. Go St. Kilda.

That is a fine point...

If you ignore the fact our national team is called the Socceroos.
