Official Electro Discussion.

I dont, and will never classify Aphex as electro. What makes you think he is?

btw you're in for a treat, Aphex is such a face melter live!!

As a producer, I don't classify Aphex as electro. But when I see him this weekend, he's DJing (rather than playing live), and I've been looking at some youtube clips of the last time he DJd in Manchester, and he most certainly does play electro tracks in his DJ sets!!!

- in the 2nd of those 2 clips, he drops an absolutely phenomenal Drexciya track!!! - Abstract Thought (aka Drexciya) - Bermuda Triangle

Man I'm so excited about seeing him!!! Full report to come on Bluelight!!!

Huh. Ive never seen an Aphex DJ set. Sounds like it'd be a good show though. If he usually spins what he does in those vids then ya his DJ set is an electro one, but his live stuff is most definitely not electro!

Have fun dude!

If it's the stuff in the post you said above. Then people here would have to say no. But the people in the general public will say YEAH!!!.

Aphex.. dude very envious.

Much like House, I find Electro to be a very broad term.
I feel as if we cant really define Electro as a whole, but rather define its sub-genres

electro can encompass many styles but it will always fall into the same grouping as far as how the track is put together. i can easily listen to something once and tell if it would fall into the category. its VERY similar to breaks as far as tempos and shit, but build-up is the main thing you will not here in electro, true electro will not touch on it at all but there are alot of tracks that due have a lil build allthough its not gunna be like a house build-up with a faster drum tempo.

Man, there are very few artists like Convextion
His tracks have to be some of the most beautiful I've ever heard. Just incredibly deep and just filled with heart-breaking strings and pads. I honestly I can't think of a set or a track by the guy that I didn't like.

And what's really dope is that he'll credit Juan Atkins, Derrick May and so on for all his inspiration. Proper.

^ amen brother. erp/convextion is the only music i have on my mp3 player right now. i listen to em like for an hour every night in the dark with headphones on, amazing stuff.

also in his bio it says
The reason he produced so infrequently was because when his first releases came out, the tracks were licensed to some big releasers and he did not get paid for them. After that some other labels approached him but just wanted more of the same and didn't really seem to understand his sound. They just wanted more of the same sounds. After that he stopped releasing music and produced only for his personal usage. After a couple of years the label Down Low convinced him to pick up his producing again. He is very careful about sharing his music with the rest of the world
imagine all the unreleased gems he has in his personal archive.

Man, your channel is on par with Droid.life's. Lots of good stuff over there.

I think it may have been maybe a year or so ago and was browsing all of Droid's videos over there and was more or less inspired to do a Sonar Base video.

=D

the hexogenik channel isn't "mine" stumbled upon it just recently when i was browsing e.r.p. tracks on youtube. hexogenik sure puts together wicked videos.

that Sonar Base - Before the Storm track is oh so good, video is mind blowing to say the least i love how electro fits so well with out of this world futuristic sci-fi trippy themes. wicked animation fitting for an equally wicked track. brilliant.

checking out droid.life's channel...appears to be a treasure trove of electro. good lookin out!
