Official Electro Discussion.

Andrea Parker's Touchin Bass label released the Nobodys Perfect compilations, which are a decent updated take on real 1980s electro, not electro house.
They are worth checking out..

An example Chaotic State - Headlok

I also find a massive electro influence in the Aux 88 stuff, but then you can draw a direct line from electro to techno through Juan Atkins (cybotron)

ChemicalSmiles, I know your post is old, but I can't help myself. That's electro-house, not electro. Justice and deadmau5 don't produce electro. As far as artists go,

Legowelt
LFO (already mentioned)
Plastic Sleeves
Oliver Huntemann

I'm not the most educated person on electro, being a latecomer into the "electronic scene", but I'm not a big fan of cheese.

errr sorry but justice is electro, if justice isnt electro I dont know what is. To me electro is music made mostly with synthesizers, though usually dance music.

My favs are Bag Raiders, Ou Est Le Swimming pool(RIP Chazz Haddon), Justice of course, Digitalism and heaps more, just cant think at the moment.

The Sydney electro scene looks so fun and a lot of it is crossed over in to the gay scene which is great for me, so many fun drugs, K, MDMA, coke, LSD, everyone is so happy and colourful/creative though sometimes people can be pretty up themselves but if you go to the right places people tend to be nice.

Festivals are where its at though.

Abstract Thought - Synchronized Dimensions

Abstract Thought was a side project of Drexciya. Very good. :)

How about Drexciya, Anthony Rother, Aux 88, Dopplereffekt, I-F and others like that? Check those out if you want to hear the original electro. I personally think it's much better than modern day electro house. But you might have different taste...

Anyway, mods could we get separate threads for electro and electro house? They are very different things, and it's not good to have them both in the same thread, because you get arguments about which one is the "real" electro.

This is also a problem with Dubstep fans. Dubstep and Dub are totally different forms of music. They aren't the same. But people think they are, because they haven't heard the original Dub music...

King Tubby - Badness Dub

I really wish people would stop stealing genre names... it's not all that hard to create a new word for your genre.

It'll never happen. Things will continually be misconstrued. It used to drive me insane to the point where I now I don't even refer to genres; I just call it electronic music. If I'm chatting with someone that I feel knows what they're talking about, then I'll get into specifics.

Some of that gets into Miami Bass territory (artists from Florida) but all electro nonetheless.

I hate to make things even more specific but if you venture onto electro forums there is an outright difference among the detroit, european and florida stuff. But all of the stuff is absolutely electro.

How electro house was given it's name I have no idea...the two genres share nothing. The beats, the themes of the future and technology........nothing in common; just a poorly coined term.

The original electrohouse (2003-2005) did have a lot in common with electro. Infact, it was a straight fusion between house and electro. It had 4/4 house beats, combined with the analogue basslines, electronic percussion, and naive futuristic melodies of electro.

Check out these electrohouse tracks and tell me you can't hear the electro influence (as well as the house influence):

Sterac Electronics - Destination Reached

Phonique - The Red Dress (Tiefschwarz remix)

Booka Shade - Point Break

Dinky - Acid In My Fridge

Hans Peter Lindstrom - I Feel Space

Mathew Jonson - Decompression

Mylo - Drop The Pressure

Spektrum - Freakbox (Alter Ego remix)

Tiga - Pleasure From The Bass

Boooo on almost all of the ERP links being deleted on youtube since they were posted!

I'll have to move along now.

This is badass.
