I am so bloody tired but i also feel like going out to a little doof that's on tonight as i haven't been out in ages. Ugh, what to do what to do. Somehow i think going to bed will win :\

Word up to my otherwise very responsible behaviour tho. I only saw one nipple all night! Some would argue that that was irresponsible because there were so many impressive nips on offer but I turned them down because I'm in a stable adult-like relationship :) Woohoo! :D

And rather drunk.

Is there such a thing as a homosexual flower? It's too early to think about it, but maybe you're mistaking homosexuality for asexuality ;)
 
^ I was just stirring shit with NickyJ, but it wasn't too early to pick up a text and think over my Biology. Asexual, in a Botanical sense is a form of reproduction. So... cuttings, tissue cultures etc. Vegetative regeneration in wild plants. :)


What about Male and Fermale flower parts, lostpunk? Dioecious and Monoecious plants. Can you think of any without refering to a textbook?


I sat here with my face palmed on my forhead for about 3 minutes during posting this. It's a passion turned into obsession. My bosses want me to go back to Uni, I just want to hang out and find a girlfriend :X
 
The majority of flowering plants are monoecious, let's say Euphorbiaceae as a family example. Of course different flower parts operating at different times generally prevent self fertilisation.

Casuarinaceae is an example of a largely dioecious family. Often at work I will shake the male flowering plant towards a female when in season and scream "Plant sex!" as the pollen goes flying in to the wind. Mature I know :)

And yeah most plants can reproduce asexually but I wouldn't use that as a defining characteristic of sexuality. Even simple plants like bryophytes reproduce sexually - as well as asexually.

But if you want specific plants let's say Ricinocarpus pinfolius as a monoecious example and Allocasuarina littoralis as dioecious because they're two of my favourites.

Cool man, that clears things up a bit for me. I was thinking in a sense that there were true male and female within a species. I think that Cultivars are different, like Paw Paw and Kiwifruit.
 
I can't speak for cultivars but yeah it's pretty simple. Dioecious plants have two distinct sexes, some individual plants are male with male flowering parts only and others female. Most plants however are monoecious with the male and female flowers part of one flower complex (male - stamens: made of filaments and anthers, female: carpels: stigma, style, and ovary).

Typical bisexual flower (in this diagram the female is being fertilised, hence the pollen grains and pollen tube).
 
That wouldn't be reproducing asexually ValeTudo. Hey I saw that rollerblading guy being towed by two dogs today! I still don't think he's homeless. He had a helmet and everything.
 
Well when I saw him he was skating diagonally from the corner of Flinders St Station and Swanston St, against the lights, so that probably won't be and issue.
