NHL 2010-2011 season

^^That's just the way the Devils have played lately. They've been really inconsistent. One game, they'll play a full 60 minute game, the next game, they'll play hard for the 1st period and then give up on the game when they go down by a goal in the 2nd.

Despite the fast that we took 3 of 4 last week, we were the beneficiary of a goalie playing out his mind and a team that got quite a few lucky bounces. Besides the 5-0 offensive outburst against Washington, our offense has still been pretty anemic. 2-1 against both Calgary and Philly with both going to a SO. So besides the game against Washington, we only scored 2 goals in 3 games, not something to be terribly happy about. We got shutout by the Isles on top of that, so in the past 5 games, we've averaged 1.2 goals/game. That's plain awful and even if you include the game against Washington, it's still only 1.83 goals/game in the past 6 games we've played.

The Devils, if they want to have any chance at turning this season into anything even remotely respectable by their standards, need to figure out how to get the offense going. We have the pieces to have a truly high powered, run and gun offense with vets like Kovy, Elias, Arnott, Langs and younger guys like Zajac and Tedenby rounding out the top 6. We even have guys like Zubrus, Rolston and Clarkson who can put up decent point totals on our 3rd line. Our offense should not be having the problems it is. It really seems as if our offense is just plain cursed.

P.S. Lacey-If your cable is shut off, you can still catch games on the internet if you can get access to a computer and the internet. Check out www.justin.tv/equallydiverse which has every game streaming live there and if that isn't working, check out atdhe.net which has a plethora of links to sporting events being streamed live. Also http://www.kilonetsports.com/kilonet1.shtml has the Devils broadcast, but you have to download a program for it to work.

with the win against the Jackets, the Penguins are now riding a 9 game winning streak...LETS GO PENS!

What about the Sharks? I just hope we dont choke in the playoffs again but our d is looking weak once again. its nice to be a sharks fan till april/may then its depressing

i'm not going to come in here and pretend i know jack shit about hockey, because i don't. but i gotta represent the ATL. the thrashers are tearing shit up right now.

I'm a Thrasher fan now because I have Pavelec in my CBS hockey pool.

My goaltending was completely sad before I picked him up.

Go Thrashers !

Ah good looks on that yo! Ima definately watch online, i really hate goin online the next day and sifting thru the recaps and shit.

And man the devils coulda been playin a lot better in the last game against philly but real talk, those philly refs piss me right the fuck off. They missed a BLATANT highstickin against langenbrunner right at the end there. i mean come on he smacked him right in the fuckin face and he was bleeding and there wasnt nobody around except philly players. that wasnt no little thing that they missed, that was unmistakable. but they aint call shit against philly. another one of the really obvious ones was when they called clarkson for diving after he got hooked by briere. They called briere for hooking but then they say clarkson dived? WTF make up your mind. everybody knew that one was bullshit. it was the same uneven inconsistent calls usually against the devils during the playoffs last year, this shit is constant everytime NJ comes to town, and once again i dont only blame the officials i am just sayin they dont make it no easier.

Dont get me wrong. I aint gettin all butt hurt like, awww, my team lost, it was those fuckin officials that screwed them, waaah. I understand that even without the bullshit calls NJ still most likely woulda lost. And I know- life aint fair, tough shit, sometimes calls are unfair, get over it. Im just sayin, all the little stupid calls on nj and lack of them on philly, it adds up, and its mad frustrating to see those super obvious calls that they just happen to miss when the flyers fuck up but they constanlty throwin jersey players in the box for stupid shit. it wasnt no different this time and ive learned to expect that type shit whenver they play at the flyers.

anyways....now that im done bitchin, i am just wondering why they had kovy on the 4th line with mair and pelley at one point? That was just a strange combination. i aint a fan of gionta but to put ilya in there instead didnt make a whole lotta sense neither. i get the idea of tryin to put a good offensive player in with 2 solid but not so great ones (lately it seems like mair is better at startin shit with rival team members and gettin penalties called on the devils than at doin much else) but i dont think that was the right combination they were lookin for.

Overall it seems like the "play well til the 2nd period then just give up when you start to lose" syndrome is still one of NJs main problems. they really need to shake that. They got such a great team and they just aint doin shit with it. even after the game kovalchuk basically said we been playing for half a season and we aint got nowhere. sucks when you are sayin your own team sucks.

I felt bad for my man, he been workin 12 hr days nonstop without a day off for like a week and a half now and we finally got a chance to hang out and spend a lil time together the night of the game (thats how i managed to see it) and he couldnt even stay awake for the whole thing. he woke up to me cussin at the TV right as philly scored that last empty net goal with like a second left. Shoula stayed asleep. :|

On the good side I been hearing that marty should be back this week...not that he is gonna magically save us but maybe it will be a little bit of help, hey every lil bit counts right.

BTW, I see that they lost to pittsburgh on monday which im sad to say i kinda expected but i didnt see that game so I cant say shit about it. hope they do better against the senators on friday. Now that i got ATLs awesome suggestion of watchin the games online Ima be a happy girl :)

It seems as if Atlanta is trying to put together the first NHL team to have all black players or is it just me? Nothing wrong with it, I would imagine that it would help them market to the large black population in the area.

I had the extreme privilege of obtaining a VIP pass for Marty's 552 win and got to meet a ton of the players and I actually had a conversation with Langenbrunner about this exact issue because he was called for a hook and the other player was called for a dive that game. He seemed a little pissed about it lol. He was like it's either a hook or a dive, pick one.

No problem. I spent a few months in Baltimore last winter and I found a bunch of sites to make sure I wouldn't miss a game. I'm always happy to pass along any info on how to watch TV for free lol.

ATLL 765

I too noticed the unusually large number of black players on the Thrashers. If I've got this right the roster includes Oduya, Byfulgien, Kane, and Anthony Stewart. Four guys on one team has to be a record for the NHL.

I don't think the league is anywhere near a point where a a team could have only black players because there aren't enough, but the numbers seem to be growing. You'll know a special effort is being made in Atlanta if the Thrashers make deals for PK Subban and Chris Stewart. And wow, they'd be getting better if they could pull off those moves.

I think it would be very interesting if Atlanta continues to acquire black players. I don't think that it's wrong in any way because the area they're marketing to has a predominant black population and they could quite possibly be doing this in an attempt to gain more fans in that community.

Atlanta's always had less than average attendance, so if they can gain more and more black fans, they may be able to become popular in that demographic and turn much more of a profit, especially if they can field a winning team year in and year out.

Though Montreal would be stupid to trade away Subban because he has a lot of potential, despite having a big mouth.

This thread's going cold. Speaking of cold, I was watching NHL on the fly and they mentioned that Travis Zajac and Patrik Elias had to sleep in their car together because they got stuck after leaving the game. Also heard that Rod Pelley and his brother were helping stranded motorists by pushing their cars out of the snow on I-280.

Talk about a crappy day. Lose to the Leafs and then this...man would I have been pissed if I was them.

Speaking of cold...oh yes, Parise's frikken meniscus.

You think someone might have said from the beginning that they were going to try to fix the thing rather than just cut the torn part out ? That's the key on that. I had the operation - if there's no blood going to that area, they just get rid of it the torn part cuz it will never heal.

That's a big loss in my fantasy league, and a fascinating question going forward - does Parise sign again with NJ ?

Must be tempting for him to look elsewhere

My girlfriend got me tickets to see the Kings game against the Oilers a few nights ago, my first hockey game in over 5 years (used to go all the time when I played as a kid).

Talk about a fucking kick ass game to go to, especially after having not followed the sport too much lately. Kings tied it up in the third 2-2, then went on to win it in a shootout. Really exciting game to see live :D

I'm a socal dweller and usually cheer for the Ducks, but I might have to focus on the Kings a little more this season since they seem to be doing really well lately. Jonathan Quick (their goalie) is a rising star for sure.

First post in almost 4 years! Any OG's still here? Or anyone remember me?

Im watching the Vancouver and Philly game! Also anyone check the Canada vs Czech game earlier?

the canada czech game was crazy. canada has a great team, and im pretty sure they have this tournament locked up.

speaking of good teams, or the opposite, the sabres suck this year :( they really have some work to do if they want to make the post-season

Well, it's a bummer that he's out for what will likely be the entire season, barring a miracle and the Devils making the playoffs and even then it's questionable if you play him.

Despite these issues and the Devils sucking this year, I think Parise will stay loyal to the club and will not only sign, but will do so at a slightly discounted rate. I'm guessing in the 5.5-6.5mil range hopefully for a good 8-10 years.

Sucks about your fantasy league, I picked him in the 1st round of mine too and a load of good that's done me. I also chose Zajac as he was a steal later on, but he's shown himself to be fairly lost on offense without Parise on his wing.

And about the WJC, I watched the U.S.A v. Slovakia game and Slovakia was playing dirty, throwing elbows around like it's goin' outta style. Hoping for another U.S.A. gold. Love beating them high and might Candians.

What do you guys think of the forward Foligno for Canada? He's American born and his older brother played for the US, but his mother, who I believe they said died recently, expressed a wish for him to play for Canada, so he is. I'm not real sure how he's eligible to play for Canada, but an interesting story nonetheless.

Buffalo has no chance. They have nobody who can score. Roy is down for a while it seems and Vanek is too 1 dimensional to be a true star. Miller's obviously gonna steal a few games, but he's not gonna score for them too.

Marcus Foligno is the son of former NHL'er Mike Foligno, who is Canadian. That means Marcus gets to choose whether he plays for Canada or the U.S. It was the same a few years back with Adam Deadmarsh who was born in Canada but had an American mother. He chose to play his international hockey for the U.S.

The World Junior Championship is great, especially if you're Canadian. It's better if other nations put together more competitive teams, but I can see how it's hard to stay with Canada. They just have so many players to choose from.

I'm getting over the Parise thing. I've dropped him and I'm busy figuring out who to pick up off the waiver wire that might make a difference. This week I've added Evander Kane (Atl) and Jeff Tambellini (Van).

No posts in here for almost a month. My Devils have turned the team around at least for now, but it seems a little too late. It'll take a 2nd half of almost .800 hockey to make the 8th seed. Just gotta believe in miracles I guess.

I'm a big Ducks fan and am glad to see them doing really well the last few weeks (with the exception of that 5-2 loss last week.)

Jonas Hiller is a beast, the Ducks are notorious for being consistently outshot in a fair majority of their games and without Hiller there's no way they'd be doing as well as they are right now. Can't wait to watch him play in the All Star game this weekend.

If he keeps playing this way and the whole team learns to play a solid 60 minutes of hockey rather than just 20 or 30, I could see them getting pretty far into the playoffs.

The Ducks just aren't the same anymore...they're just not as mighty as the once were....so sad....
