NHL 2010-2011 season

Exploratory knee surgery for Parise. Could have been worse, but hardly reassuring.

The suspension flow chart is funny.

Don't think we'll agree on term of suspension for Rypien. Fan abuse directed at players is certainly tolerated unless they start throwing things. Personally, I have no sympathy for fans who put themselves in danger by taunting players at close range. It's like people with animals at the zoo - it's an unreal environment and seems like a lark until you fall in the grotto.

^^Yea, i read today on the nhl site that Parise should be out for about 3 mos with knee surgery he got a torn meniscus in his right knee. that shit sucks, I had that when I was a teenager and its a real fuckin bitch. My internet got shut off for a while cuz the bill didnt get paid so i aint been postin but i wanted to come back in here and check it out after watchin last nights game against the blackhawks.

I hate to say it but i really thought NJ was gonna lose, even with the lead they had, they got a habit of losing every lead they get so i wasnt hopin for much. I was really suprised and happy to see them win, even tho it seemed like the Hawks werent playin their best and IDK if the devils woulda beat em if they were at the top of their game...but still tho, they needed that victory, so im glad they got it regardless of how it happened or why or the fact that the 2 winning goals were empty net. bottom line is they won and that gotta do somethin for their morale.

When they took Martin out in the 2nd period yo, Man, i was like thats it...if their style for the season so far is any sign, they gonna lose their lead, they gonna choke at the end, goodbye forget about it. It was a nice suprise to see Hedberg play as good as he did i didnt expect it since the last time he was in, he was doin pretty crappy. he made some nice saves this time.

They sayin its a minor thing Martys elbow bruise but somethin like that is never good...the x rays are fine, they said he just banged it but last time the same thing happened it ended up bein much bigger than "just" a bruised elbow and it had a longer lasting effect for sure. so hopefully this time it really is just a bruise and dont become a bigger problem. Thats the last thing the devils need is for him to be out for more than a game or 2 -- or for him to come back, but not be in top form and start slippin. too soon to say right now tho.

Also It was good to see Kovalchuk actually playin as a part of the team a little more than he been so far this season. I dont like watchin him play and actin like hot shit, always tryna be the one who makes shit happen. He seems to be taking a while to blend in with the team and really fit in with them and be 'one of the guys', you know? But this game he seemed to be much more of a team player and working WITH his teammates instead of just tryna do his own thing. You know, it dont matter how good of a player he is if he cant work with his team mates becuz aint shit gonna get done otherwise. he needs to take his skills and blend them in with the strenths of the rest of the team and really find a way to work together. They named him alternate captain now, so he better get his cooperation on. langenbrunner and parise had a good thing goin and always worked well together so hopefully kovalchuk will start workin on bein less about himself and more about the team.

By the way...Was i the only one who thought that some of the penalties against the devils were a lil bit harsh? When i was watchin the game with my dad he was like "damn, why dont they just take a devil out and put him in the box for the whole game if they gonna be like this"....Even during the end of the 2nd period when they called one (IIRC) on Adam mair for interference and the commentators was both like "wtf was that? he didnt do nothin, He was just skatin around minding his own bizness, he definately aint gonna be happy about that one" and so on. It seemed like they were a lil bit quick to call em on the devils, i mean sure some of em was deserved but there was some that didnt seem fair. thats how it goes tho...

Anyways, cant wait to see the game against the rangers tomorrow, that should be good devils vs rangers games are always pretty exciting to watch. maybe this win last night will boost their confidence a lil bit and give them an extra edge tomorrow, that would be some shit if they beat the rangers Id love to see that but i aint gonna get my hopes up just yet...well see...

You can't forget that the NHL officials will always hate us. They won't ever forget the whole Schoenfeld-Koharski donut incident....

I'm not worried about Marty. When he got hurt in 08-09 it was his left elbow, this is an issue with the right arm. If he doesn't play on Wed though, it could be an issue.

As far as Kovy is concerned, he was awful against the Rangers. With Parise out long term, he needs to step it up big time and show us he's worth the big paycheck he demanded. i wasn't a fan of trading for him and his play is making me remember why I didn't like bringing him here in the first place. He gets way too frustrated sometimes and takes bad penalties like he did on Friday, he also is lazy when he makes a mistake and seems to give up on backchecking, which resulted in the 3rd goal against the Rags. I mean have you seen the quotes from Elias on him? He tossed him under the bus and the Devils were never a team to make comments like that.

I have faith in this team though. With Volchenkov back, we have D corps with a top 4 of A-Train, Tallinder, Greene and White, which isn't too bad as long as Greene picks up his play and Taormina will have less pressure on him and will still get lots of PP time. Also, with our D looking like that, we'll be able to hide the 6th D-man a lot more whoever that may be, which will help a lot. Lastly, Rolston is coming back soon and at least he is defensively responsible....

yea once rolston comes back all thats left is salvador , the devils took a real hit with all these good players that been out so its good to see them comin back one by one I think it will make a difference.

You are right about the shit parise said...The devils aint the team to be talkin shit about each other, that aint their style at all so you know that there is some real tension over kovalchuk if parise would say somethin like that publicly.

I missed the rangers game on friday night cuz I was out later than i planned, but when i watched the post game show i wasnt too impressed. actually im kinda glad I missed that one, becuz i hate watchin the rangers win against jersey especially for them to get a shutout is painful.

Im glad that they aint playin again til the 10th, that will give marty some time to get right becuz he was supposed to be in the game on friday , so that kinda made me question a little how he really doin since he didnt go in...a couple good days of rest should do him good and hopefully he will be playin his best against the sabres and make up for the ass whuppin they got last time they played buffalo.

I also got to say that it been pretty cool watchin Taormina start to really get with the team. You can see a real improvement from when he started to how hes playing now. i think he is a really good fit with them, for such a new player he is workin hard and he seems to know his role and work hard to play it, they chose well when they picked him. I enjoy watchin his progress on the team hopefully he will grow into a real reliable, strong player for them.

BTW atl, i just looked at your location and noticed you from jersey too, IDK why i didnt pick up on that before:)

It's great to see some NHL talk on Bluelight.

Now, can we get beyond New Jersey ?

The Devils are sure enough a good story this year, but how about your division rivals, the Flyers ? Can those guys make it back to the SCF ? I see they signed Claude Giroux. I wouldn't want to be facing this guy over the next ten years. He's a great player and going by last spring's showing, he's got playoff heart.

I'm liking that Brassard/Nash/Voracek line in Columbus. Voracek and Nash should be a natural fit.

St. Louis might be a bit thin in spots but with Halak in goal, they're really hard to score against. And a fantastic hit by Oshie on the Bruins' Krejci the other night. Can the Blues hold it together for a full year ?

And how about Vancouver's 'third' line ? Malhotra/Torres/Hansen is tearing it up just the way management there hoped the third line would this year - maybe more even.

Flyers ain't done shit since 75. That whole city is a cesspool when it comes to sports. They can go hail Rocky since he's the greatest athlete to ever grace that dump of a city....And Carcillo is as big a pussy as they come, he never will fight anyone unless they're Marian Gaborik I guess....

Columbus while doing well now, I don't think have the depth to stay at this pace. Maybe they squeek into the playoffs in a 7-8 spot, but they're gone in the 1st rd at best.

St. Louis is making the playoffs, young team that is getting it together this year and with Halak in goal, they'll be able to steal a few games too.

Vancouver will choke...nothing else to say there. They, along with the SJS choke every year and they will do it again this year.

On another note, the Devils suck so bad that no one can even give away tix....I literally have 8 tickets I got for free to tomorrows game along with 4 more to Friday's game....things cannot be going well in the ticket sales department.

You can get tickets to a Panther's game in Florida for $16. I don't even think that is any kind of special deal.

When I buy tickets to the Devils game, I never spend more than $10. They release them the day of the game, so you gotta wait in line most of the time if you want them, but since I'm unemployed, it works out. Sit on the sidewalk, get drunk, buy ticket, get more drunk, end up spending twice as much on booze as I do the ticket haha.

ATL, yea, you notice how empty the seats are at the home games lately? everytime they show the crowd there is huge chunks of empty seats.

When i was a little kid we couldnt afford to go to games...even the nosebleed section (remember the dark purple seats alllllll the way back up there at the very top? haha those were the worst) so when we would get free tickets from friends, etc, up in the top sections, we would go and bring our binoculars and check out the empty seats...we would scheme on that shit for the first period, and if by the first intermission nobody came to claim em, we would walk right down that bitch down to the lower level and just take the empty seats all casual like we had just came back from the bathroom or somethin. that was my moms plan everytime, and i remember once we ended up like 3 seats back from the front row witih that technique :D Good shit yo. Ill have to teach that trick to my lil Malik when he gets older.

Anyways...Whew...Last night was a hell of a game, so much ups and downs, i really thought the devils had a fucking chance but halfway thru the 3rd i got a feeling they were gonna eat shit. that was some edge of the seat type ish with the overtime goin into overtime. it woulda been such a great story if the devils had won. :|

I dont even know WTF that shit kovalchuk pulled was. they said it wasnt his fault , etc, but ....damn....I watched that like 'seriously? THAT is the best you can do, in this all or nothing situation you just....lose the puck and dont even shoot?" Biiiig letdown. so there goes another home game lost. they aint been the same since they moved to newark.

Once overtime ended and it went into the shootout that was when i knew jersey was gonna lose becuz hedberg aint the guy you want in that kind of high tension situation. He seems to just short circuit and go into fail mode when the heat is on him.

it seems like his MO, and in this game especially, is to either be really quick and on point and make some good saves that you would think he would miss half the time, but the other half the time he just stand there in the net not even TRYING to stop the puck. I forget which goal it was, but one of the time buffalo scored and the puck went high over his shoulders into the net Hedberg didnt even REACH for it at all. he didnt even fuckin MOVE to try and block it--it was like he just totally froze and just stood there and let it go past him, just making some little-ass token move to look like he tried. I dont know wat his deal is man. Dude is maaaaad inconsistent. You never know if he is gonna make a nice-ass save or just fuck everything up. i dont put much confidence in him at all, he super un-dependable.

Now they dont even know if brodeur will be back on friday neither. That was exactly the shit i was worried would happen, they play it off like it aint shit but they been sayin he gonna be back "tonight" for the past 3 games. it sucks becuz since marty is such a great goalie and been so reliable for so long, it seems like the devils didnt put too much effort or thought into securing a really great backup goalie. like "eh, dont worry about it, we got brodeur" so they just got a mediocre one since they figured they wouldnt have to use him. the team depends way too much on martin sometimes, especially seasons like this one when they are suckin.

i know hedberg aint a BAD goalie, he aint terrible, but he really aint the type who will be able to even begin to ATTEMPT to fill brodeurs shoes once martys gone. he aint super star material. when the devils got him this year they shoulda been scoutin for somebody young and really really talented who they could start grooming to take martys place when he goes instead of spendin all that money on kovalchuk. IMO if they should be spending any type of crazy money like that it should be on a really high quality goalie to take as their backup to train for brodeurs spot once he retires. if there is any one position where ONE player is gonna make a huge difference its the goalie, so they should be thinkin ahead on that which it dont look like they are doing. Oh well, hedbergs contract is only for one year so he will probably be out after this season is over and they better start on the lookout for somebody really talented to bring in to take his place so they wont be totally fucked when marty leaves.

its pretty sad when the devils are the lowest in their division and cant even beat the other teams that are lowest in theirs. my expectations for tomorrow are pretty low. guess well see...

Kovalchuk needs to wake up. He's been playing lazily like he used to in Atlanta. He is a lazy backchecker and instead of doing that, he'll just stay in the neutral zone hoping for a breakout pass so he can go try to score on a 1 on 3 by himself...

Hedberg isn't bad, but I don't understand why we paid him $1.5mil this year instead of just resigning Danis for $500-600k. I've heard that Kovy and Hedberg are buddies and both have the same agent, so it was like a bonus for Kovy to have his buddy with him I guess. He'll definitely be gone after this year, after all, he is like 37-38 years old I think.

I can barely afford tix as well, but the day of the game, they release tickets for $10, so I usually can scrape that up. The Devils have been running a lot of promos and I got 4 free tix to Wed's game and today's game, so the Devils are obviously pretty desperate to fill the seats. The freebies I got were lower bowl seats too, which are about $80-90 tickets.

When's your baby due? I always get e-mails and stuff about promos the Devils are running and I can PM you anything real cheap I see once you don't have all that extra weight to lug around lol.

EDIT: My Kovy hate has been mitigated by the fact that he scored the OT winner last night, so that's great and great that we finally won a game at home. Although, he did overstay just about EVERY one of his shifts and his passing was sub par for the whole game. The rookies Vasyunov and Tedenby were great, each putting up their 1st NHL goal along with Rolston's 1st of the season and Kovy's 4th.

LOL, I feel like a 16 year old girl postin a little smilie thing like that , there aint no cool devil emoticons i could find so that will have to do.

Anyways, That was a great game. I missed the first 2 periods becz i forgot to set the shit to record when i was gonna be out, so it didnt look too hot when i first turned it on. once it went into OT i was on the edge of my seat tho, Especially right before the last goal, when they just kept passin it back and forth like "you shoot it.....no, YOU do it....no, i dont want it, YOU shoot it" , the tension was killin me.

I started gettin hopeful when i seen a devil in there screening dubnyk, i think it was rolston but i didnt catch the number so IDK who it was, but with that setup i knew they had a good chance to score. It was just a great end for them, I know they must be feelin pretty good right now, cuz they really needed that. I woulda loved to be there with them 10 dollar tickets last night, definately worth the money to see a game like that.

I been hatin on kovy too lately , but you kno, i WANT to like him. they were talkin about that after the game and its true. i think alot of devils fans are haters but they do want to love him but he just aint been pullin his weight and givin us a reason to. I bet tho that if he can start to earn his keep and really live up to his potential and get more in sync with the team, start playin like he should and become the star player he supposed to be, that alot of the hatin fans will turn and give him his, he just got to earn it. thats why everyone been hatin becuz for the most part so far he been actin like he dont need to, like he just deserves it and can rest on his name instead of puttin in work to prove that he is earning that 100mil.

But Im with you ATL, last night, once he sewed it up like that I was right there jumpin outa my chair with the rest of the crowd even tho i was on the couch at home. It was just a awesome way to finish up the game, and I couldnt help but feel good for him when he did his lil fist pump victory thing, you could tell he was so hyped and happy. i dont blame him, he musta felt so much relief of the pressure from all the unfulfilled expectations on him, along with the usual game-winning-goal-scorer emotions.

i guess we can call it even now , that definately cancels out his awful performance in the OT shootout on wednesday, so I will keep my kovalchuk hate o meter on neutral ground for a while and see if he can start to live up to his hype. and maybe they can move up from the dead-last bottom rank in the entire league now. :o

BTW, I was checkin around the prudential center website and seein the services they got, see I am on bed rest so I cant do all that walking in and out of the stadium and shit, but they got free wheelchair escorts that can bring u to ur seat. So, ima ask my dr if its cool to do,im pretty sure that as long as i stay off my feet its all good, so if thats the case this baby aint gonna stop me, he can start bein a devils fan early;) I been wantin to go to a game for a long time now and I sure as hell prolly wont be able to sneak away to one once I have him ill be too busy, so Id love to get it in while i still can now. def. let me know about how to get those tickets and ill sign up for the mailing list or w/ever it is, however u get them...so hit me up in a PM when you get a chance and fill me in :) Thanks yo.

Oh well, at least the rangers/penguins game was pretty good, i hate the rangers, but it was some good hockey watchin pburgh come up from behind like that only to get beat, as much as i wished the penguins won it was def. still a real entertaining game to watch and it was worth watching just for Lundquists bitch fit, that shit cracked me up.

One highlight of the devils game was the mcquiad and rod pelley fight tho, that was great, I feel a little bit better becuz while we may have lost at least pelley beat his ass, WITH his helmet pulled off and still took him down so that was a little bit satisfying. but in the end, I was real disappointed to see them choke like that becuz they really got off to a good start. tim thomas was on point tho, unfortunately for jersey.

steve canagliosi or how the hell ever its spelled, the commentator for the devils games on MSG, was talkin some shit like 5 minutes in with a 0-0 about how "The devils are well on their way to their first back to back wins" and shit like that, I was like damn, way to count your chickens befor they hatch man. Oh well, onto toronto...

Ahhh, cocksucker, the cable guy just came and disconnected my shit for nonpayment, now I aint got MSG and Ima miss the game tonite. Unless I can go to my boys house and watch with him except his whiney girlfriend always bitches and wants to watch somethin else. she better not be around tonite, cuz I aint beat for no women fuckin up my game time dammit.

ATL, if i dont manage to see it tonite, i expect a full report tomorrow ;)

Well I wasnt tryna just be up in here talkin to myself but Im suprised none of the nj fans in here aint got nothin to say about the way the devils smashed the capitals 5-0 monday night. That felt fuckin gooood. :) And with hedberg in the goal too!

^^No way yo, never! You obviously dont know much about the ferocious loyalty to our state that people from jersey got;)

btw, devils take the win again against calgary :)

You don't have to actually get in a car or on a bus...and literally leave.

But you could take a faceoff in another zone i.e. how 'bout those 'Bolts and that kid Stamkos ? Will the Hawks even make the playoffs ?

Yea, i know that. i just meant that the only shit Im interested in is jersey. I aint so much a hockey fan as a devils fan. I will watch the other games sometimes, I watch rangers games so i can hope for them to lose, and Ill watch the other games that are on around the same time as any NJ game Im watchin, but for the most part the only team I get into and actually pay more than passing attention to is the devils, thats wat i meant when i said that.

PS, I dont understand how they can lose against the fuckin ISLANDERS, but beat the capitals and flyers....Oh well, Ill take it. I love to see the flyers get beat by anybody....so for the devils to get em this afternoon was veryy satisfying
