nhl 08-09 season: official thread!

I need to offload Gaborik, preferably for a Goaltender or a Defenceman, as he's coming off IR and will be taking up too much roster space.

Who should I go for? I'm even everywhere but I would love to shore up those two positions.

Thinking a Lucic + Gaborik trade for Boyle. thoughts?
 
don't do it. gabby on his first game back got a goal and an assist. a lot of people i would say it's a fluke, but i think he's got what it takes to continue a good start. i'd keep gaborik if i were you, not to meniton lucic seems to be a beast (not sure of his fantasy stats.
 
Gotta drop SOMEONE, and I may as well try and get some good trade value. So I should keep Gabby then.. maybe I should try and get one of the Pizza line while they're underperforming.
 
don't get spezza, too much speculation as to his efforts and his ability to remain part of the pizza line. i would take heatley or alfie though i believe they're both DTD right now. gabby, though off the IR is still listed as DTD, but mostly just because of discomfort. i have a feeling he'll be ok to play, maybe miss one more game.

in terrible news though. derick brassard's season is over. our rookie phenom is no longer an asset this season. that's HURTFUL. if it weren't for mason steppin in as our keeper, i'd say the season's shot. but mason's our last line of defense right now. nash has the flu and is 50/50 for the next game. we've got a ton of injuries and pazzy's not pullin his weight. we have to do something NOW because a couple more shovel loads of dirt and we'll be buried deeper than we can dig ourselve's out of.
 
I was disappointed to hear about Brassard as well - he looked like a strong Calder candidate.
 
Damn the last week before the Playoffs and this thread has been dead for a long time! Well I will give it a rebirth.

I'm not a big NHL fan but I am excited for the Bluejackets this year! It's gonna be their first trip to the playoffs and according to some analysts on ESPN they could be the sleeper pick to win the Stanley Cup due to fact they (according to Espn guy) they have the best goalie in the NHL in Mason. I guess if you don't give up any goals it's impossible to lose.

oh sh-- I forgot there even was an NHL thread. Blue Jackets are looking good this year. Mason is crazy. Back in Feb., when the Caps had only lost three times at home, they came into our house and whooped us like 5-1. I was pretty impressed.

I'm about to leave to the Caps game now...... they play the Sabres at 7.... Buffalo really really really need a win, even though they are probably done for anyways

that was actually hilarious, LITS. there was OBVIOUSLY no intent to injure so any cries of 'headshot' by hockey fans saying he should be suspended for so many games should quit being so sensitive. fact is, he's an instigator... and he certainly got a rouse out of the B's in that moment. yeah yeah, he may have crossed the line of etiquette, but he's not out there to mind his manners, he's out there to piss off the other team, get under their skin, and change the momentum of the game and in a 1-0 game with less than 7 minutes to go in the 3rd... i'd say he damn near got that game going in the rags' favor.

it's not like he clubbed him. he tapped him. avery's a clown. people need to quit taking him so seriously. i like the guy, myself. he's effective and really... a pretty decent hockey player to boot. he's not an idiot by any means.

and the jackets lost again today. GOD FUCKING DAMN IT! but again... the one bright spot is that even though they lost they got that extra point in OT. they haven't been winning lately, but they've still been racking up those points. gotta give them SOME credit.
 
as far as Avery goes: I think some people are still angry about when he got in Brodeurs face 2 years ago and employed his very..... unique method of goalie screening. And of course there's the "sloppy seconds" comment. I don't think he'll ever live that one down.

I can't stand Avery, but then again, two of my favorite NHL players of all time are Dino Ciccarelli and Dale Hunter. Dino was dirty on and off the ice, and Dale? (well, just look up Dale Hunter on youtube) It only takes one misstep, one moment of poor judgement, and you'll be labeled the bad guy, forever. Dale Hunter made one misstake and that is all he's known for. So I guess it all comes down to what colors they're wearing and if your a Ranger fan, you gotta love Steve Avery.

the Rangers could make the move up to 7th seed and face the Caps in the 1st round now that the Canadiens have lost their best 2 d-men. I want to play Montreal, but I know Bruins fans realllllllly want the Habs.

even though hes an asshole, thats what makes the game of hockey so much more interesting and FUN....getting Tortorella as head coach and than getting Avery back on the team was probably the best thing they couldve done this year. When I saw them back in November, down here against the panthers they dominated and beat them, than when they came at the beginning of February they got their asses kicked by the panthers, lol wtf is that
the rangers have made a huge come back and I think if it wasnt for the coach we would be eliminated. I really think Avery brought their spirits up and Tortorella actually cares about the team

having said that I have been to most of the games down here, to watch the panthers get their asses kicked basically and all I have to say is there is a lot of great young talent out there and a lot of which are better than the rangers but the Rangers will always be my team

all in all though i think Bostons gonna win it all this year
 
this is a great hockey season...i hope my sharks win the presidents trophy and make it to the finals finally. I think that hockey is more popular then ever. People have been enjoying watching it who are not even really fans lately. sharks at 7 tonight

Rangers played a great game tonight, Panthers won but have been knocked out and have been eliminated from playoff contention

I am happy that the Rangers won but I believe the Stanley Cup will be Boston VS San Jose or Detroit. You never know what could happen though
