nhl 08-09 season: official thread!

about voracek, i expect him to keep his form. he's actually gotten the points he's got so far without looking up to par... so when he starts playing to his full ability he should be even more dangerous. last year in the minors for the halifax mooseheads he had 33-68-101 in 53 games. 13 points behind the league leader and mind you voracek missed 12 games because he was participating in practices and games for the czech world junior team. now he's got brassard (our young potential 1st line center) on a line with chimera (who's been doing AMAZING so far this season!). now even if chimera were to be bumped to the third line, they'd likely bring filatov up which would make the filatov, brassard, voracek line absolutely DEADLY. my thoughts would be that filatov would rake in most of the goals and voracek would be a machine on the feeds so he'd probably be more of an assist guy than a goal scorer, but he's shown capability to do either. right now though you can tell he's skating a little timid, once he gets used to the size of the guys he's up against and what not, i look for him to be at least a point per game kinda guy.

I am getting absolutely buttfucked in my fantasy league. AO hasn't scored in 6 games and there's sweet fuck all production from my other stars. Picked up Smyth again but I'm getting sodomised in the goaltending stats as well.

lundqvist is a bad ass. also, i'm glad to see zherdev doing well in new york! i figured a change of scenery would help him out and he seems to be taking full advantage of it leading the team in points (and tied with drury for the team lead in goals with 7). not to mention... he left columbus as a great two way player, i think his defensive play gets overlooked.
Can't believe how good Luongo has been lately.
I'm still on the bottom of my fantasy league but definitely in touch with the rest of the pack now, thanks to big performances from Backstrom and Ovie. Guess we'll see how the rest of the season goes - I really wish Gaborik would start playing again.

you and me both, i've got gaborik in my money league. i've also got nabokov. not to mention a whole slew of good offensive defensemen who keep getting injured. wtf!?
backstrom's been one of my favorite keepers since he entered the league. he's what made me start liking the wild (i'm a big fan of good goalkeeping). and luongo has been SICK, disappointingly of course since steve mason got the second star of the week last week, had luongo not been as dominant, mason COULD have been the first star.

The new Blues third jerseys kick much ass. Definitely buying one after the holidays. Too bad the team is still hated by God (the freak Eric Johnson injury and all), but I'm hoping that Slumpniak (excuse me, Stempniak) and Co. get something worthwhile going this year. Of course, I survived the waning days of the Bill Laurie Era (aka the Bill Laurie Shit-On-The-Face-Of-Blues-Fans Era), and I survived Mike Keenan running Wayne Gretzky out of town, so I can survive anything.

AO's first hattrick of the season, thank fuck for that. Now I'm well in the thick of things in my fantasy league. Just need to get more assists, PPP's and SO's and I should be up there. Ellis netted me my first SO of the season. Still have DP on IR.
Let's not talk about Gaborik.
A friend of mine wants to shore up his RW, and he wants Gaborik. He's offered Richards/Gomez/Drury. I'm fleecing him bad, especially since I picked up Versteeg, but he really needs RW's and I really need C's (Only have Washington's Backstrom, Koivu, Franzen and Modano from FA when Gaborik went onto IR, which was an absolute steal with the way he's performing).
I'd love another defenceman actually, but not sure who I should be trading.

I just got back from the Rangers Panthers game
Rangers won!!! Within the first 2 minutes of the game they scored 2 goals and i thought they would win it for sure but than the Panthers scored fast and they tied it 3-3 towards the end. It went into a shoot out which had me on the edge of my seat.
Lundqvist is an amazing goalie and that makes him 6 and 1 in shoot outs

Rangers have a great team this year, even without the big J.
Scoring is evenly split, and if they can get some points from their defenders on the PP, they'll be hard to stop in the East, barring injury of course.. :D
