(NATIONAL) Metallica: World Magnetic Tour 2010 - October & November 2010

n3ophy7e, well done for getting into your boyfriends band! Respect where it's due! I did the same thing for my girlfriend with her Keith Urban obsession....slightly different genre though!

If you have an iphone then download the "livemetallica" app. You can listen to all their past concerts from this tour plus many really, really old stuff where they sound SOOOOOO different. It's cool.

Last time I saw Metallica was Gold Coast Big Day Out....whenever that was. And the time before that was in Wellington when I was about 18 I guess. So that must've been 12 years ago..... This will be the first one I'm in seats for but I doubt there will be much sitting going on. Sorry Lostpunk...

I was looking on the net this morning and saw a Brissy ticket in the silver section going for $400! I hate how people do that.

Woo Hoo!

Oh, and I hope like hell that Shihad open....although that will probably only happen in Auckland.

Yeah I found that as well, upon researching recent set lists. Did they not used to mix it up?? Sorry I'm a Metallica noob :D

And, awesome tatts mate!!

Heh, I think the back tatts are 'ok' technical side of things (worked in a tatt shop for a couple years, hence the 100-150 hours of (free) tatts :D ) but for a emotion side of thing, it's pretty good. Music was/is my life, especially from 16-25 when I was in bands, going to bands 3-7 days per week, week in week out. Still, overall I like all my tatts, mainly for the emotional side of it, it's what I was/am into and it's a great reminder of it. http://s82.photobucket.com/albums/j250/undii/tatt/ is most of my other tatts, haven't been worked on for about a decade, getting back into it now actually that I've moved back to near my family, going to visiting old work places to see people/friends who I know to ink me :D

And for a long time, Metallica (mainly when they first started doing arena tours) were doing the same setlists, even down to the 'jokes' James used to say in between songs. Kid you not, listen to concerts (I used to have 60+ metallica albums in the 80s, as in bootlegs on vinyl. I was THE definitive Metallica fan big time... The black album + on going stuff destroyed my love for them and hence I destroyed most of my metallica vinyl collection during the 90s at some stage. Still kept one vinyl piece work, hmm, it was valued $3000-$5000 back in the middle 90s. It's an album with the wrong label and from what I recall, less than 'a handful' (50?) were printed. Also got a few picture discs left but all the bootlegs etc I got 'mad' with and smashed up.. It was a very soul cleansing event heh.

Also I think the sets used to be identical due to them wanting to make sure they put on good gigs so they used to rehearse their set to be 'perfect'. Also I recall from interviews from the lads that they said during tours, they'd be hard pressed to play songs that aren't in the set because they practice/play the set so much, all other songs are gone from short term memory due to not playing other songs much/at all. Kinda makes sense, it's hard to remember songs that one hasn't played for 'ages'. Since my injury, I can't play guitar anymore and I kinda stopped playing LOTS for a while once I had picked up full time work and I've forgotten most of the, hmm 500+ songs I used to know/play all the time over the years simply due to not having played them for YEARS

Whoa...hey...man...that is entirely different. Respect to YOU!!! :D

Keith Urban? Wow.

Out of the Big 4 I've seen Megadeth in 2006, who were great and Slayer in...2007? That was one disappointing show. Anthrax hold little appeal for me these days, as it's more of a soap opera than a band. Saw Armored Saint, so that was my John Bush fix. Death Angel and Testament put on great shows, for those who are thrash minded.

Is there any word on who's opening for Metallica? Somehow I doubt it'll be an obscure metal band I'd be into. To see Annihilator finally get some respect would be great, but that's about as likely as me opening for them. To keep it Australian I'd suggest Mortal Sin, but they're already opening for Overkill, and probably aren't big enough to open for Metallica, which is why I doubt Alchemist will get it either.

I apologise for the disjointed post, can't be bothered quoting.

I heard Megadeth is opening along with Mayhem.

Lars and Dave Mustaine are going to have a boxing match between sets

If only Lars was under that bus in rural Sweden all those years ago... I reckon they would be a better band now. Discuss?

Mortal Sin opened for Metallica when I saw then in '89. So I'd say that could help them get the spot, it was a great gig by both. Even tho I'm not so thrash minded anymore but I don't care who is opening now, I've either seen whatever band before or haven't heard of them. :D

^Nice post. I can't believe they only played Hit the Lights, Motorbreath and No Remorse only 1 or 2 times in 1989!

I'd be happy with plenty of Death Magnetic being played this time. I love that CD. Of course Kill Em All is probably my favourite. Although I'd be happy with any set list they have been playing recently.

Wow, they really don't like Motor Breath or Hit The Lights, which I think are both great songs. I thought it may have been due to the Megadeth/Metallica feud, but Mustaine doesn't have any writing credits on either of them. Odd.

I love Kill 'em All, but having listened to No Life 'til Leather, I really prefer Mustaine playing those leads. Ride The Lightning is my favourite Metallica album. Not sure why it doesn't get as much love as Master of Puppets.

Also, had no idea Mortal Sin opened for them in 1989. How times change.

Ride The Lightning is also my favourite.

I can't stand Kill 'Em All. Hetfield's voice is so hair metal horrible.

There has always go to be some asshole to bring this bullshit back up. I mean seriously these days those guys are fine and considering the "big 4" are playing a number of Sonisphere dates across Europe as such there is no problem.

Ive been a fan for 12 years and quite frankly think peoples comments like yours deserve a spam button. :! and think they that last comment is just fucking rubbish.

I enjoy Hetfield's vocals on Kill 'em All. No Life 'til Leather is when he was really bad.

Megadeth are better than Metallica. Sorry, couldn't resist.

I honestly don't think Cliff remaining in the band would have changed the direction of the music, as it's Hetfield/Ulrich who do most of the writing.

Ive seen Megadeth 3 times and i'd have to disagree man.

I'd have to disagree, from Hetfield

On the importance of Cliff, the musical genius:
Hetfield: We never would have written guitar harmonies or instrumentals or songs with very intricate melodies and orchestrations without Cliff. We wouldn't be where we are today.

Many many interviews from the years I've seen have stated how much influence Cliff was. He taught them musical timing as well as stated above. He had a much bigger influence than being the actual writer of songs credited, he showed the guys HOW to write music and they had heaps of influence from + respect for him with regards to music writing as well as drinking ;)

Oh, also probably the biggest change since he died.

The impact that Burton had on the rest of METALLICA, both musically and as an example of how to stick to your principles in the music industry, was profound — and Kirk provided a perspective on that impact which couldn't have come from anywhere else."

Talk about sticking to principles was thrown out the door a bit after Cliff died heh. Just have to watch Some Kind Of Monster (and know of the band in 80s + 90s I guess) to see the polar contrast that at least James + Lars are compared to pre Cliff's death days.

AND WOW

Just inspiration of looking at Cliff stuff, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_SN5HLZgcE&feature=related Cliff in the 70s and Jim Martin (was in Faith No More and stuff) high school band or so.. WOW... Gee, I think I know that song/riff ;)
