(NATIONAL) Metallica: World Magnetic Tour 2010 - October & November 2010

^I used to HATE the entertainment centre too. However after seeing Megadeth at the Riverstage and Foo Fighters at entertainment centre, I can say that I'm positive the entertainment centre will rock! I liked the riverstage but really thought the sound was better inside. Also, since the show is on the round stage which will be in the center of the floor, everyone will be really close so the atmosphere should be intense!

In saying all that, I don't see why Suncorp Stadium wasn't used!! They're allowed a couple of concerts there every year but most years it sits there empty except for footy.

Yeah, I'm sure the sound would be better inside. It's just... something about the atmosphere of being outside... it feels more natural/amateurish. But you're absolutely right about the Suncorp Stadium! I saw 'Police' there a few years ago and it was brilliant :) Oh well, it's Metallica so whatever happens, I'm sure it will be an amazing night for all!

More Tour Updates

More shows in Australia . . . that's correct, you're reading this right!! The boys will be heading down under a little earlier with shows added on September 15 in Melbourne at Rod Laver Arena and September 18 in Sydney at Acer Arena. Tickets go on sale June 25 at 9:00 AM.

Just in case you missed out on one of the first dozen or so shows? :)

First Melbourne show was last night.....here's a review!!!

To the thousands of Australian metal heads who have forked out their hard earned to see heavy metal giant Metallica’s World Magnetic Tour – you are in for one hell of a treat.

The heavy metal veterans kicked off the Australasian leg of their world tour at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena on Wednesday night in what was arguably their most elaborate and high-tech show they’ve ever put on in their nearly 30 years of existence.

From the amazing laser light display to the oversized robotic coffins which were lowered from the ceiling and moved around sporadically throughout the concert to the scorching pyrotechnics – Metallica spared no expense.

This show was certainly one for the ages and the epic setlist hasn’t even been dissected yet.

When the iconic "Ecstasy Of Gold" blared through the speakers to mark the beginning of the sonic onslaught Melbourne was about to endure, it felt as though we were being transported back to the early 90s.

But when the thumping heartbeat of Death Magnetic’s opener, "That Was Just Your Life" immediately followed, it was a poignant reminder that we were in fact in 2010 – and it was comforting to know that more than two hours later these guys still kick some serious ass (as if that was doubted in the first place).

While the boys played a decent chunk off their latest release, Death Magnetic – "All Nightmare Long" being the highlight of the four tracks from that album, the vast majority of the setlist came from their first five classic albums which defined them as one of the most influential heavy metal bands of all time.

And for the 15,000-strong sell-out crowd, this was music to their ears (excuse the pun).

As you can see in the video clip we secured from YouTube, the band tore through classics such as "One", "For Whom The Bell Tolls", "Welcome Home (Sanitarium)", "Fade To Black" and "Enter Sandman".

But the high point of the show came towards the end when metal masterpiece "Master Of Puppets" and the apocalyptic "Blackened" were played back-to-back.

The hair-raising double act sent the fans into a moshing frenzy and the countless chants of ‘MASTER, MASTER’ from the crowd were deafening.

As for the fellas, they are still well and truly at the top of their game.

James Hetfield’s voice still does more than an adequate job and he combined with Kirk Hammett to put on a guitar master class as they ripped through some of their most legendary riffs and solos.

How Lars Ulrich can still pull off lightning-quick thrashy drum beats at the age of 46 is truly astonishing and Robert Trujillo is simply a monster on the bass.

His presence on the stage was unmistakable as he prowled around like a lion stealthily stalking its prey.

In summation the rest of Australia’s major centres have plenty to look forward to over the coming months with the evergreen Metallica juggernaut set to wreak havoc on our fair nation.

Here's a youtube link for Metallica, Melbourne, 2010.... http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=metallica+melbourne+2010&aq=1

And here's one from that link ONE, from 4.00 onwards is epic!

With all the flames, lights beach balls and metalheads, this looks fucking sick!!!!

I ended up selling my seated ticket for the previous night to my mate. The reason? So I can epically enjoy moshing in the pit....on my birthday!!!! So excited. Bring it on!!!!! :!:!:!:!:!:!:!:!:!

Is there anyone going to the Adelaide show and if yes have you received your tickets(s) as yet????

I was told by a friend who we sold our tickets to that they know someone who received their tickets 2 weeks ago.

:\

And a mate's of mine review on facebook status + comment(s) of his

wtf Metallica? I walked out half way through the concert in disgust. Lars you suck, you trainwrecked every song.

Kirk still can shred on guitar. Hetfield wasn't too bad, although he was doing some vocal melodies at the end of some of their older songs that made them sound like pop songs and the bassist has nothing on Newstead or Burton.

I am astounded at how a band of that caliber could play so poorly.

I am not a jaded metalhead by any means. I have seen Faith no More, Slash (playing old gunners tunes), Soulfly, Behemoth and Fear Factory fucking absolutely smash their old material this year. Not to mention all the bands that haven't been around 10+ years play amazing some amazing sets. Then there is a local metal bands that shit it in.

Metallica are dead to me.

your mate sounds like a tosser!!! owell he can build a bridge!!! im going to the 16 & 18th Brisbane shows woooooooooo can't wait!

^Yeah, all the reviews on the fan forum are awesome! Not a bad one at all. Normally the keyboard jockey music fans are harsh on their idols. Not in this case!!!

In unrelated news, I went to a heavy metal concert recently where you were allowed to crowd surf. Haven't been to one of them since the 90's.....so everyone was getting into it and having a great time. I jump on the related forum the next day and all these 'die hard' heavy metal fans were whinging about how their concert was ruined due to crowd surfing.... I really cannot pick peoples personalities by the words they write on the screen. I mean, these people were wanting to stand still and not move while their idols were rocking it 1 meter from their faces. Strange.

Sorry to go off topic....

For any Metclub fans, remember to enter the Meet and Great ballot for Oct 2010 shows:
by October 7 @ 9 am Pacific Time.

Winners will be emailed by October 8!!!

I have 3 entries.....

In fucked up news, my mate has decided to pull out due to work commitments on the days of the show so I now have one less mate to go with. :(

I really want to go with a good mate but it seems all my Metallica buddy's live OS at present! So far I'm going with a great mate and my gf. Will rack my brains to find one more.

Counting down now that's for sure!!!!

Won a meet and great for this Saturday!!!!! Soooo stoked.

Now what to get signed???

James - A bourbon + coke can

Lars - A Napster t-shirt and/or burnt copy of their latest CD

Kirk - A Mach 3 razorblade (After you shave off his dodgy goatee/moustache if he still has any of them)

Rob - A Cliff Burton poster.

Should be enough to get you banned for life from anything else official Metallica wise :P

^Dude that's awesome!!!! :D Fuck yeah good shit!

8o I know... still don't believe it! I'm actually really nervous about it now... like a kid on his first day of school! ha ha.... :\

That's actually pretty funny! Might skip your advice this time though...

Still searching for ideas! An old LP...a DM CD... all pretty lame ideas but I'd still love them and frame them up. Hopefully with a pick I grab from the show!

The whole sign my skin and I'll get it tattoo'd kinda looks fun too... but my girlfriend is dead against it.

If I played guitar I'd get that done. Idea's people???

Serious post this time!

Hmm, wish I knew you "well" I've got a "Single" Vinyl record of One with a mis-labelled live side of I think, For Whom The Bell Tolls + Seek and Destroy where it says another track OR it's one of those 2 I listed and 2 sons live that isn't what the label says. When I first bought it, a friend who owns a record shop said it's part of like 25 or 50 (whatever low number) before they fixed up the error. Got it in 89 or so. Valued at like $5000 in the 90s, NFI if it's skyrocketed or not (I hope so heh). Could do that... I used to have 66 vinyl records until 91 or so when "Black" 'broke my heart' and I smashed most of my collection to cleanse my [music] soul. God, I had some good stuff back then. A devil shaped picture record of "Jump in the fire", it MAY have been the original lyrics version, or else that's just on "No life til leather" demo, Memory of mine is hazy these days due to my nerve damage 24/7 pain and LOTS of pain meds I take for it.

Also had just a shit load of gigs/bootlegs, like "Masters of Evil", Jason's first gig, alcohollica (Cliffs last gig, OMG, why why why did I smash that :( ) and various other records fans most probably would jizz seeing. I've got SOME stuff left over from my Metallica obessesion days from the 80s packed away, would be good to get some of that to see the light of day and signed heh. Might also blow them away seeing "mint" condition stuff of theirs from the 80s.

Anyway, good luck with whatever you get, I've lost the LOVE I had for them 20+ years ago, still love their 80s tunes but the 90s+ just never "did it" for me.

Also, I would have killed to be able to have the Cliff tattoo on my back to have been signed and inked in at http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j250/undii/tatt/MVC-042F.jpg :D

^ aka Metal 512 1-500 mislabel series.

Does your one have two lables stamped over the top of each other.

Evidently there was a run where the stamp machine fucked up and the labels were off-centre, so they corrected the mistake by fixing the machine and puting the vinyls back through; hence the double label. There was a rumour also that the glue used caused the labels to develop a pale blue tint over time.

Sorry about the nerd out, i'm kind of into this sort of thing ;)
