Music you used to dislike but now love.

^ To add to the sensitive white boy indie music, I used to hate Dashboard Confessional back in early high school. I was like who is this dude with the acoustic guitar and when will he shut up? Then I hit junior year and met a girl and you know the rest. Don't get it twisted, I still liked them (or him for those of you that think Chris Ender Carrabba is the only member of the band) before they got big, but there was a time when I couldn't stand that whiny voice and strumming of the acoustic guitar. The Swiss Army Romance was a great album though, and it's been my best friend when I've had a few drinks and I'm feeling like a lush, and I'm thinking of the female lush's in my life that the songs apply/applied to.

She had a history of killing herself
I had a habit of dying
I think she gave me something to live for
I guess I helped her pass her time

word up to your post. brings back some memories of the female sort.

lol but i really love that one bright eyes song and "postcards from italy" is a fucking great song.

Postcards from Italy is definitely the easiest Beirut song to love. You should check out the March of the Zapotec/Holland EP. It's a good mix of his Balkan sounds and Electronic bedroom sounding productions. Zach reminds me a lot of Stephen Merritt.

But what is that "one" Bright Eyes song that you like?

a lover i don't have to love

it got me at

I want a boy who's so drunk he doesn't talk
Where's the kid with the chemicals
I got a hunger and I can't seem to get full
I need some meaning I can memorize
The kind I have always seems to slip my mind
But you but you
You write such pretty words

just killed me. especially that first line, it was just so harsh and brutal. i've felt that way about boys most of my life. definitely startled me and made me feel uncomfortable. great song.

^ Nice :) That song and "Something Vague" are the first two songs that I heard and then subsequently fell in love with Conor.

For me it was 'On My Way To Work'. I'd never heard anything so sad.

"and we're all fucking alone."

For some reason, I knew you'd like that part
Also, I would think you'd like Lua too

I'll admit that I have an inherent bias due to living and growing up in a place where the Word of Oberst is Law, but most of his solo work (excepting a few songs) has never really spoken to me. I liked his contributions to Monsters of Folk and I don't really have anything against him as a songwriter other than that most of his work has failed to impress me.

I was always more of a Tim Kasher fan. %)

i managed to listen to exactly 40 seconds of the bright eyes song before i thought 'fuck this' and went back to listening to murder city devils.
godawful. godfuckingawful.

Yeah, I know how that is. Sometimes fans can be a huge deterrent.

i've always really felt the opposite! you know, when they were good bands. snow patrol and 3OH!3 and Flobots got big when i was still living in denver, and that made me want to die. but atlanta loves their outkast, and killer mike, and T.I., and that's fine. NOLA loves the cash money millionaires, etc.

god awful? Really, can you explain you came to that assessment? Are you sure it's just not up your alley?
