Music you used to dislike but now love.

Used to hate hard rock/grunge but lately it's all i've been listening to. That whole quiet/loud/quiet/loud dynamic is something that has grown on me in the past few months. Similar bands include Massive attack, Deftones, Tool, My Bloody Valentine, Sonic Youth, The Pixies.

Also, i've only recently gotten into electronic music thanks to the xx, radiohead, MGMT, Air, Massive Attack, Pretty Lights, Aphex Twin, and Chemical Brothers.

i HAVE always HATED ABBA with a vengeance but over the past few years I have slightly warmed to this.

*sways*

I feel the same, but mostly for SOS, the first Swedish hardcore track, ever 8o

EDIT: Bear witness to the baddest ass cat dresses of all time in the video.

i used to HATE kid cudi while everybody else loved him.

now that hes lost some popularity, i fucking jam to his tracks everyday.
not on some hipster shit, just didnt realize how much i liked him until after his popularity faded

I hated credance clearwater revival with a passion when I was a kid. My mom had there box set and would always listen to it. Then like olast year I heard fortunate son on the radio and was like hmmm thats a tight song. Got into there back catalouge and decided I like there sound.

When I would hear "Down on the Corner" when I was a kid I would think they were singing: Down on the corner/Out there on the street/With a guitar singing something/Like Hitler can't be beat.

Come to think of it, I still am pretty sure that's what they're singing.

Idk about all of his music, but I absolutely HATED that fucking Uncle Kracker song "Follow Me" back in middle school when it came out.

But, now that I can (unfortunately) relate to it, I've been playing it quite a bit the past few days while fighting with kicking opiates... Wish he made more music like this instead of doing all that country shit.

When bands are popular, most people have a hard time shutting up about them - which in turn causes resentment in people who don't understand the hype. When you can listen to music without the constant reminder that 'everybody thinks this band/artist is awesome' you appraise it more objectively. It doesn't just apply to popular music either, there have been so many indie bands that I've been turned-off by because of all the hype surrounding them (Grizzly Bear) - once they stop being the Flavor of the Week I tend to enjoy the music better.

Right now I'm going through the opposite situation with The Black Keys. It's strange hearing them regularly on Top 40 radio, sandwiched between Nicki Minaj and Lady Gaga.

Pink Floyd
Anathema
Katatonia
Soul Whirling Somewhere
Lycia
The Beatles (Not really a favorite. I like them now and I used to really hate them.)
My Dying Bride
My Bloody Valentine
Swans
Legendary Pink Dots
Bad Religion
Monster Magnet
Lovesliescrushing
Steve Roach
Windy and Karl
The Velvet Underground
Love Spirals Downwards
Marilyn Manson
Eminem - Very creative and explicit with violence, more so than any rapper I can think of (I used to hate all rap because what I had heard was always degrading to women and obsessed with wealth and being a thug, always the same unoriginal crap that did not appeal to me but now there are a number of rappers I like or LOVE)
The Smashing Pumpkins
Johnny Cash
Mazzy Star
American Music Club
Death In June
Current 93
Cranes
Pixies
Nick Drake
Skinny Puppy
Ramones

here's another one: Fiona Apple

It's not that I didn't like her music. I just wasn't into her when she first came out in the 90's. When heard about her last album I decided to give her another shot. She's one talented artist and one of the few "pop" singers that continues to make quality music.

I was very big on "alternative" hip hop when I was younger. The Roots, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Common, Kanye West were all my favorites, plus all the 90s rappers (Wu-Tang, Pac, Big, Dre, Snoop). I didn't like a lot of the new wave rappers like Young Jeezy right when they came out. It took me a couple years to really appreciate them. I don't make that mistake anymore. Now I listen to the new shit. If you've been reading my posts you know I love ASAP, you know I love 2 Chainz, and of course I love Kendrick Lamar, who's probably the only "alternative" rapper worth listening to right now other than Kid Cudi.

Also I'm learning to appreciate electronic music and dubstep a little more. I still don't listen to songs that are purely electronic. I need some fucking lyrics on that shit. But I can appreciate what they do and when those electronic artists collaborate with other artists I love it.

I realized I dont find the newer artists as lyrically appealing since these days its all about that loud bass and get money n***a.

But the production is pretty sweet at a party or when youre trying to get hyped up.

Also, Im starting to appreciate Jazz for being the catalyst for what we call music today.

Anyone who says anything that general about "newer artists" just isn't looking enough.

Radiohead took me a long, long time to appreciate, to the point where it'd annoy me how much my friends loved them.
Turns out I was the slow one. :P

I couldn't get on with Stereolab back in the day but now I wonder how on earth I couldn't get into them.
