[MUSIC] The 80's thread .... (links only please, no full video screens)

Thanks, made Divine look like an immense talent, not that he isn't or anything Lol

Hahahah I must try to restrain myself as I have some virulent opinions about Flock of Seagulls too. These guys made one of the best fucking albums of the 80's, Story of a Young Heart & all the poor cunts are remembered for is the lead singers fuckng hairdo. This band rocked, they weren't afraid of using electronics & effects, their music was quick, almost drug fueled bpms, aided by intricate psychedelic guitars, sycopated bass lines & driving rhythms, often layered, both real & electronic at the same time. The Seagulls made psychedelic pop music! The album itself & some of the B sides from the singles from it got into my head after I got an enhanced copy earlier in the year & they would loop in my mind on psychedelic drugs session throughout summer. In particular -

Flock of Seagulls - Remember David - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K1HT57x4TzE
...just quietly, this echoed in my mind alot because of EADDs losses this year which had been bad enough by then to be on my mind :(

this one cos it simply fucking rocks
Flock of Seagulls - Over My Head - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-kYXcK49PHU

If however you want a war, step the fuck back bitch! I am armed! I have the cheesiest shit, stuff that'd make Marms Da Da Da look like fucking beethoven!

No offence Marms ;)

allow me - Divine - You Think You're a Man - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4TXoGjYO7TY

What 80's thread could exist without mention of this huge talent! He ummm she errr THIS tune deserves a full page but I shall resist temptation...
I'm a big John waters fan, so that went down well obv.

All my decent music is on my lappy upstairs ... so I've only got cheese here until later ... will pull something more decent out of the bag later promise MDB/Sam

in the meantime ....

HAYSI FANTAYZEE · John Wayne Is Big Leggy

and also ... I actually do like this, which is probably a heinous crime to most ...

Malcolm McLaren - Double Dutch

flock of seagulls were ace. I ran is a fucking classic single ... Si obviously knows them tons ... fuck, I think I used to have a brain once that remembered stuff and everything ... what the fuck happened?

[edit]

Landscape - Einstein A Go Go

... the album that I Ran (Marmz) is from is also good but a little more raw, simplified. It's a great album with great tracks, I just think, especially witht the added B sides, Story of a Young Heart is more rounded. The two albums together, & along with the awsome single Wishing (I had a blah blah blah) they pretty much complete the Flock that's worth listening to. The third LP wasn't worth the Charity shop quid I spent on it & I have no idea what the guys solo material is like.

I still find new stuff to listen to because I missed alot of the 80's for three reasons. First I was flitting back & forth between African & the UK. In Africa, you get a cross section of Euro, British & USA pop music (or did at the time) & lesser hits never made it out there. Second, by the mid 80's I'd got into Goth music & spent my time & money exploring it & thirdly, I became interested in dance music in the late 80's. So my area of interest spans the time periods that I was in the UK & into pop music, or particular strands of 80's subculture & whatever I discovered or picked up since.

I think I was into metal during the mid 80's. Lots of rush/alice cooper/ (and the beasties/Run DMC) ... with generic pop too... but a love of smiths and then REM creeping in .. come 1990 I was a full on indie snob, disgusted by dance music and anything related to it (I loved some of it, but my bro spoiled it for me)

New Model Army - Vagabonds

Awesome

Yeah it was. BUT I'll be the first to admit I do not even remotely possess an eclectic taste in music. It's very very very limited. I wont even pretend it's diverse. I'm pretty much stuck in the early 1990s, and have been for a while, and have lost my motivation to diversify. There's a fair few here that do seem to have an eclectic range of tastes tho.

Furniture - Brilliant Mind 1986 <--- perfect 80's track. Doesn't get much better imo

Spear of Destiny - Never take me Alive

Depeche Mode - See You
