Mushroom Season 2013

Had my first finds of the season today, although it was only my second time looking. My friends who came picking dosed up this afternoon though and weirdly enough the effects they experienced seemed rather mild relative to the amount they ingested. I know potency varies but I don't think I have ever encountered a batch of subs that weak, one of them is super sensitive to most drugs (including mush) and a good ten or so in a tea didn't even give him OEV's, another larger but less experienced friend had close to double that and wasn't much better off, weird....

What temperature did you boil the tea at and for how long? Psilocin degrades at around 87 degrees celsius. Do the Lemon Tek next time and keep it at around 50 degrees celsius then report back for us.

^ Cheers mate, but I am pretty experienced and know how to make tea. :) I am experienced with lemon tek but a lot of my mates aren't keen on it.

The water was probably a *touch* hotter than it should of been but honestly I have seen and used hotter with much better results than were had today. The one thing I can think of is the mushrooms were practically all blue when picked so maybe a lot of the psilocbin had already oxidised.

It could also be something to do with the huge cloud bursts around NSW lately, if that is even where you are.

Sorry VB, psilocin's melting point is 173–176 °C (343–349 °F). It won't start degrading until it hits the melt point.

That's cool. Good to know. I got the information about Psilocin degrading at 87 degrees celsius from The Shroomery which apparently came from Erowid.

The people I used to know that used Psilocybe mushrooms always keep their tea below 50 degrees celsius. They reported degradation at any temperature above that and reported huge drops if the water was allowed to boil. They were above sea level so the water boiled at around 98 degrees celsius.

I know that the temps you mentioned are often thrown about when oven drying is attempted as the figures you quoted are on Wiki.

Yeah, there was a discussion on Myco about it and someone put it to the test in a lab. There shouldn't be a difference when it comes to oven drying and boiling for tea, and personally I've never noticed a difference unless they've been kept at boiling temp for an extended period of time (over 4 hours)

I have done a little bit of digging regarding penalties for possession of Psilocybin and Psilocin and found the NSW penalties are as low as 25g being considered a commercial quantity and 100g+ being considered a large commercial quantity

I am sure we all remember the boys from Balingup that got busted with a few shrooms in a cigarette packet.

Sweet. Thanks for the info. Can't beat lab test results.

Maybe the citric acid and heat combination is contributing to the degradation then. Do you know whether this could be a factor? that is the only other variable I haven't included.

My theory is the psilocin is degraded by hot temps, where's psilocybin isn't affected by heat (as much).

Psilocybin converts to psilocin in your body, so if you've degraded all the psilosin, you'll still get the psilosin alkaloids eventually.

I've had the same results as RD, only degrading slightly, and only enough to notice after an extremely long boil.

Maybe if you had low stock you might want to get the most out if them, but shit, with the amount around Australia I stopped caring, and stuck with what works.

Meh, I'm happy with my psilocybe-a-mile tea.

Couple teaspoons chamomile, coupla shrooms, plenty of honey.

I've been intrigued by the lemon tek, but again it seems like something i'd do when I have low stock.

That sounds cool. I have never heard that name before. Very catchy. How does the Chamomile go as far as relaxing the mushroom experience?

I always advise people to use the Lemon Tek to reduce the body load. Most people find that it doesn't increase the effects as we all once thought.

The only time I've tried the Lemon tek it seemed to reduce the overall effects (whole trip was over within 3 hours, very mild visuals). I love brewing them with some traditional Earl Grey tea and honey, but the chamomile sounds delicious too.

did a lemon tek in bali and was tripping hard within about 1minute, was still nauseus but didnt yak. Trip lasted normal amount of time, i did have 3 servings worth, and I also did leave the lemon tek soaking for like 2hrs catching a taxi back to accom

Subs i got off a mate seem pretty potent from down south. First time having subs, had .6 crushed in a capsule. Was on a really nice comfortable level with heaps of OEVs

Literally came up with the name two weekends ago whilst making it. Lol.

I like to think that my chamomile relaxes me, gets me ready for whats about to go down. But in all seriousness the relaxing properties of chamomile are extremely subtle, and if you've been drinking it daily, like me, you won't feel all that much.

wouldnt ginger tea be good to try as an anti-nausea? + ginger tea is delicious anyway
