Rainforest areas in the dandenongs and similar type habitats have lyre birds which are often the ones uprooting all the shrooms while scratching around looking for bugs and shit. I allways wondered how the hell all these mushies in remote places ended up like this untill I witnessed it myself.

This is a great analogy and i too have seen this take place.

I was refering to tracks where you see human footprints a couple of metres into the bush on either side and shrooms thrown everywhere. I also have ran into alot people with cans in thier backpacks which they throw into the bush!

Well if you think about it, not one person (that i know of) in this thread is a qualified mycologist. If someone tells you to eat something such as a Galerina or Amanita and you die because of it, what do you think will happen to the site?

Im fairly sure thats the reason behind no ID's. As ive said before, just sign up to the shroomery and ask for ID's there.

Just a couple more from my patch. Still heaps left, but only took enough for a mate of mine. We need more rain, these mushies are drying out so quickly, hence the small ones. These same ones were twice the size two days ago, and look how much some of them have shrunk :|

Spot on Immortal Teknique. :)

Although there may be some very experienced 'shroom hunters' that frequent this thread, there is no guarantee the information they provide in regards to identification is going to be 100% accurate and reliable. A picture or a simple description, although a good indicator, is not a perfect way to identify a psychoactive mushroom.

A sure fire way to ensure the correct identification of the mushrooms you are picking would be to start studying mycology. :)

I have studied mycology for 4 years and i still wouldn't ID a shroom of any kind by a picture alone.

If your unsure and you can't find anyone to help you out i recommend you stear clear of shrooms all together!

Throughout all my years of psychedelic experimentation i have found that the best trips are the ones that come to you and definately not the ones you search long and hard for. If you feel the need to experiment with these mushrooms, chances are you will run into somone "in the know" in your travels and when this happens you will wonder why you chased them so hard in the first place. If you eventually become experianced in this field you will look back on your early days and be thankfull nothing bad happened to you...

More rain is definatley needed, we've had alot more rain in my area than say melb but its still patchy and the forest canopy and dry lands are soaking up every drop they can get!

Few Subs 20-30km inland but none near the coast as of yet. In most years my coastal patches are flourishing by the 20th of May but alot of these patches dont even have moss or earlier seasonal fungi as of yet.

PsiloSubnaut roughly were abouts on the coast are you located? Last year I stumbled a heap of coastal subs on the banks of an esturary system not too far from Phillip Island. I was blown away when I found these as I wasnt even looking for them and there was no pine or eucalypt trees in sight. Some of these were only a few meters from the waters edge which suprised me and some were growing directly from decomposing wombat shit so im guessing the wombats had chewed up some spores with the roots and such they had eaten.

Thanks for that Psilo. :)

The quote from Psilo above reinforces why IDs are not permitted in AusDD. If someone who has been studying mycology for four years would not be confident in identifying a shroom from a picture, I don't see how an identification from a yearly shroom hunter would be any better.

I live near Portland in Vic, its roughly 70km east from the S.A boarder or nearly 300km west of melb.

You'll be surprised where some subs fruit! I have found them on sand dunes with slightly woody soils no more than 10 metres from the waters edge. I have noticed these have a much fatter stem (15-25mm and over!) and they tend to curl away from the water which gives them an extremely bright blue bruising of the stem. I have found these to be alot weaker than any other subs i have come across and this is most likely due to the lack of nutrients in the sand dune soil.

One day i will write a book on the diversity and different habitats of subs. I find most literature only goes so far when it comes to Australian Psilocybes, this is because most of it is written by people who come out here for only a few weeks and go back to thier country of origin with limited info to write about.

Most aussie mycologists will stear clear of any psilocybe mushroom as this is not thier reason for entering the field and they lack understanding. This is partly due to misinformation and false propaganda from thier teachers.

8mm of rain last night :)

the majority of psilocybes are non active actually...anybody on here referring to psilocybes is referring to actives though.

Immortal...some of those are HUGE....great finds!!!

just a couple lol... you are so lucky, i havnt had shrooms in close to 5 years, would love to get my hands on some of those bad boys! 8o

Its not many :P just enough for a few mates to have a pretty crazy night :). When i was eating them a year or two ago i was picking shopping bags of them. Now i only pick when my mates ask me for some.

Start looking 24-72hours after a good rain. Although variations in temp and humidity can effect growth.
