Multiple Canadian deaths attributed to PMMA

These greedy fucks who synthesize/press these pills should be castrated.

I agree 100%, knowingly selling poison as a recreational drug is pure evil. I don't know where the caps came from, but I'm fucking praying for whoever distributed them at the party, as I'm sure they had no idea as to the content (according to my buddy, about half of the people there were rolling on the same stuff). As for the original manufacturer, hope they find your ass and lock it up for the rest of your life.

being from vancouver this scares the shit out of me. i usually never buy presses and my guy would never be the kind to give me bad drugs. makes me want to get a test kit.

If I were you, I wouldn't fuck with "ecstasy" or anything related at all for a while. She was killed by what was purported to be high-quality powder MDMA. If you need to experience that feeling, buy some methylone online from a reputable source (although given the state of the RC market these days, that might not actually put you in any better shape).

Judging by the article below and the PMMA related deaths in Calgary, I'd say that there's a bunch of bad cut pills going about.

I live in Vancouver and am really concerned about this. I personally don't take pressed pills, but I have friends who do, and I'm afraid that one of them may accidently take one and fall ill or die. I've been sure to warn people, but that doesn't always help..

This is why, if you plan on taking illicit drugs, you should at least buy a testing kit and make sure what you're getting is safe. Better to spend a few extra bucks and know what you're putting in your body than to die. Unless you're the one manufacturing the drugs, you don't know whats really in it. If you're going to do stupid shit like drugs. At least try and be responsible and smart about it.

It really makes me so sad and upset that this is happening to people who just wanted to have a good time and then ended up dead because of it. And I'm fucking pissed off that anyone would even CONSIDER cutting a pill with a disgusting and dangerous chemical such as PMMA. It disturbs me, really. There are so many other things out there that a pill could be cut with that wouldn't be harming your customers.

Please, please be careful :(

Jesus, that's eight bodies in western Canada over the past, what, month? I wonder if the Vancouver deaths were PMMA too,

I just posted that link in a similar thread.
Looks like a batch of PMMA has been going around, and if you plan on taking ecstasy.. well, it might just be better to stay away for the meantime. Consider buying a test kit please, because even if they are a little pricey, it's better to spend that extra bit of money and know for sure what is in your pill than to just guess and end up dead. Your life.. your choice. Stay safe..

So sad... all of this would have likely been prevented if it weren't for prohibition, and if testing kits were easier to get in Canada and more widely available. I live in BC and am definitely being more careful than I usually even am with MDMA now, especially pressed tabs. I don't usually buy anything that friends of mine haven't tried out already or tested, but I definitely can admit to eating random pills at parties and stuff. No more... not worth the risk anymore. I LOVE MDMA and feel so safe using it, but the adulterants are getting to be too much, and now PMMA? Ugh. Only eating pills that I know are safe, otherwise I'm saying nooo to anything unless I can test it or even pill report it. Even with a tester kit though, would it tell you your ecstasy had PMMA in it? Prohibition is dangerous and kills people. Fuck man. So sad and frustrating.

BTW, from the majority of articles and news reports I've seen, they have actually mentioned PMMA and put the focus more so on that than methamphetamine.

It's almost exactly the same situation that caused deaths from methyl alcohol in illegal moonshine during prohibition. Still more eveidence of the huge and tragic failure of modern drug policy.

That's a good comparison. Also remember that much of the methanol during prohibition was added by the Federal government. I've seen estimates that government methanol adulteration led to tens of thousands of deaths.

They wouldn't do this again, you may think. Except, who puts the APAP in opioids?

Just something to ponder.

Unquestionably.

I merged the two threads and retitled. Just post all related info in this thread for as long as this situation is unfolding.

I would really like to see the RCMP release some sort of description on the bad batch.

They're explicitly refusing to do this. Look:

Police in British Columbia are reluctant to tell the public what unique, colourful markings are on ecstasy pills suspected to be packed with a lethal additive linked to five deaths in the province over concerns users will believe they're sanctioning the rest.

The province's chief coroner said Friday toxicology reviews of 18 deaths related to the party drug since the start of 2011 found PMMA present in the systems of three men and two women.

But Lisa Lapointe said while some police agencies have been voluntarily handed samples of the suspect pills, they've decided against putting photos online.

"We don't want to give the impression that these are the tablets that are risky, and other tablets are safe," she told reporters.

"At any time, any tablet can be contaminated with anything."

RCMP and police in Vancouver and Abbotsford have all promoted the message that no drugs are safe, while shying away from providing specific details around tracking the substance's source or revealing what stamps the pills bare.

One criminology expert says now that word is out, the drug lords cooking up the fatal cocktail have likely taken care of the problem anyway.

"It's like a bad batch of coffee, it's not good for business," said Simon Fraser University Prof. Rob Gordon.

"They're not doing it deliberately, something has gone wrong with the formula. I would imagine whoever is behind it has hit a bit of a panic button and has stopped doing it."

That there's the entire War on Drugs in a nutshell.

I get why they don't don't share that kind of information. Not that I necessarily agree, but it is what it is.

Well maybe you could say that next to the pics?

Yeah, of course, it was an accident. I'm sure they won't do it again 8)

Has anyone actually done reagent tests on pills known to contain MD(M)A and PM(M)A? Looking at the table of reactions on wiki I'd imagine it's almost impossible to tell when they're both present?

Unlikely, methylenedioxy groups would also be cleaved, and methylene iodide probably reacts the same way with mercuric/silver nitrate.

Patients who died after ecstasy overdose had extreme symptoms

Calgary Herald

By Meghan Potkins, Calgary Herald January 15, 2012 9:33 PM

CALGARY — Emergency doctors and nurses call it “crack dancing,” the involuntary spasms and jerks of a delirious patient, suspected of having overdosed on cocaine, methamphetamine or ecstasy.

It’s an all-too-familiar signal for emergency room doctor Mark Yarema that a patient has been abusing drugs.

But last month, the 15-year ER veteran encountered a sudden rash of patients admitted to hospital with symptoms well beyond the typical.

“They presented with extreme manifestations,” Yarema recalled in an interview with the Herald. “Instead of just being agitated, they were comatose. Instead of an irregular or fast heart rate, they may have already been in cardiac arrest, and they often didn’t present with the odd movements and crack dancing because their bodies were extremely rigid.”

“It was an extreme form of total-body muscle contraction, and in some cases, they seized as well.”

Anyone know if any of this shit is showing up on the east coast yet? We get shitty enough pills as it is here so unless i get it tested I'm not touching anything around here regardless.

Front page of The Province (British Columbian newspaper) says that the death toll has risen to 6 now. A Langley teen may be the latest victim. According to the paper, the teen took ecstasy on Saturday night, along with other pharmaceuticals, and collapsed later in the early hours of Sunday morning. He was rushed to a local hospital but could not be revived.
Wise words from his friend: "Choose your friends wisely. Follow your gut. Never say 'it won't happen to me.' He was worth so much more than a $5 pill."

They don't know just yet if his death is related to PMMA but I think that it's safe to say that if you plan on popping.. test your shit. It's sad that this has to keep happening. Even worse is the fact that..

Stop telling people not to do drugs. They are going to do them anyway. It would be much more effective if people were educated on how to use drugs "responsibly."

Are they giving any info at all on what press of pills are tainted with this shit? I know you can't just go by that but it would help abit no doubt.

The conservatives have alot of blood on their hands when it comes to the drug war going on here that's for sure. The thing is they are of the same type of conservatism that came from America which means ideology always comes first over science no matter how outlandish the situation. That type of thinking makes as much since as putting on a set of headphones and pulling a blanket over your head to pretend your house is not burning down.
